Actually, you are correct Travis, I misspoke. The numbers are: Weekend 91; SCM Friday 12, Saturday 71, total 83.

As far as timelines go, we stayed fairly close, thanks to Grandpa Rocks navigational skills. We DID have that 12 cache cushion from Friday, so I would say that if you added an extra 20 per cent to the time for each, you would have an accurate number. Dishman hills took about an hour to complete, and we parked beside the first one at the Sanatarium.

I think we were a tad early at lunch, but had not skipped any as yet. We then did one of the after lunch caches to get closer to the proper time, then left lunch a bit before everyone else. (Bear in mind that I thought we were SUPPOSED to go to ALL the cache locations, without skipping any. That's why we tried the 12 on Friday to give ourselves a cushion. You good cachers had scared CR and me to death with how fast you go.)

In my view, Dishman Hills did not take overly long, a bit less than an hour. (I loved it, it looked just like home.)

I will probably have better input for you after I digest and log some of these. For example, the longest to do? It's still a blur, but I'll recall after I log, I'm sure.

  2. First off, to all those that were so kind to as to be concerned for the Cachecruiser, and my fragile wallet, all it needed was a regular rear brake job. All is well. Thanks for the kind words.

I honestly don't know what to say about having that much fun. The caches are mostly a blur, but CR is remimding me slowly but surely. All close friends were at this event, and many more new ones. I think that is the lasting legacy of SCM.

Travis, you were missed. Don't stray again, or we'll make a "Drag Travis to a CM" event cache.

83 finds. 2 DNF's. An hour and 10 minutes at the border on the way home, a 10 hour trip, and memories to last a lifetime. Thanks all.

    And now we rest.

  3. Well done PEPPER!! Wish I could have been there to see it. Congrats. looking forward to seeing you Friday.

And then the bad news? Weinerdog may not be attending SCM? sniff...

Oh yah, Evergreen, I think I found that park and ride you want to meet at, but I'll email you anyway. Should be in your neck of the woods at 11:30 or noon Thursay. Cachecruiser got all sorts of new fluids and parts today, and is cleared by the dockmaster for launch.

    Hello geo-trekker,

Was it they who supplied you with the GPS co-ordinates for the two false TEAM KFWB GPS(DOT) caches on vancouver island?

As all who know me are aware, I am the most diabolical cacher the sport has ever known, Foghorn. If you'll recall, you even tried to have me banned from geocaching.com because I so offended you. Goodness knows I deserve it, I suppose. As far as Geo-Trekker goes, I too, falsely accused him of the same crime, which I later learned he had nothing to do with. It was one of the most shameful things I have ever done in my life, and I have since apologized to him in writing. Having said that, understand this very clearly.

You may flame ME at your convenience, however, you may NOT make mindless accusations at friends of mine whom you do not know. As a book of fiction I once read said. "Judge ye not, lest ye be judged", and "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Geo-Trekker is a very avid cacher who has great enthusiasm for the sport. Back off.

I really am sorry to be off topic here, folks. Won't happen again.

Cachewidow, the "Loose" thing is the only grammatical error I am aware of that just sends me scurrying for a thesaurus. All others are forgiven forthwith, as I, too, hated Third Grade Grammar. RobertM is a great cacher, but he just happened to push the L button. To atone, I will bring souvenirs for you, V and C-royd and d RobertM from the Spokane Cache Machine. Eroyd will have to make do, as I have never seen anything but perfection from both his writing and diction. icon_biggrin.gif

To the topic at hand: It seems that several people have suggested compromises to the "Pirate" concept. I believe these should be passed on to admin, as a possible replacement for the now grandfathered traveling caches. (The one here on Vancouver Island was great fun. I think it was THE most sought after cache without monetary incentive.) If Pirating gets that going again in a small way, great. If not, it can still be a valid class of caches in its own right.

Hmmm..I just thought of something (Ouch). I wonder if that knave No-Beard is behind all of this? Perhaps we could finally bring him and his scurvy crew to justice once and for all.

This seems a very fair solution to me. A new class that would add some spice to the game for those who are into trading, and can be passed over for those that are into the hike/place/adventure. Were I to happen upon a cache container bereft of all but a pen and logbook, I might be somewhat curious; If it were a cache I placed some time ago after carefully choosing a location, however, I might feel differently.

Geo-Trekker, weclome home. You were sorely missed. Come visit soon.

Oh yes, one more thing. "Loose" is what my ex-wife is. "Lose" is when I misplace something. No offence RobertM, but this particular incorrect usage drives me up the wall. Yes, I AM aware that it will now be done as often as possible on purpose, in order to irritate me. Fear not, as I see it so often that no more irritation can possibly be caused.

Sounds good George. We will, of course, be in touch well before next Thursday as to where we will ask for landing clearance in Seattle. We DO know that we will be on BC Ferries 7 AM sailing out of Tswassen BC, Blaine at 9:20, and North Seattle at 11:10, Washington State Troopers willing.

Ahead warp factor 5, Mr Sulu. Never mind the State Troopers.

Lets have fun out there, we are.

First, don't laugh. It's cheap to run (propane powered) and extremely reliable, seats 6 comfortably, and is a great cachecruiser. Even the A/C and power antenna still work. It's a 1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham. It's comfy, and a great place to sleep. You are welcome to join us if you'd like to take only one vehicle on Thursday, George. So far just Cr, EGH! and I are aboard. What would be cool is if anyone could pass along the price of auto-propane in Washington if they happen to notice. Here it's about $1.57 US per gallon, as opposed to $2.34 to $2.58 per gallon for gasoline.

  11. Hey George, we would be pleased to hang with you starting Thursday or Friday. I think the plan so far is to head to Spokane on Thursday, however that could change. We'll definitely be caching on Friday, and some on Sunday as well. Pick a vehicle, yours or mine! Yours is way cooler though icon_biggrin.gif

globe.gif How much intelligence does it take to sneak up on a piece of tupperware?

  12. Absolutely, Moun10bike! However, all of my wonderfully calibrated Topos (1992 NAD27 and NAD 83) are in tif format so far and too large to email. I will burn them to CD's for you. In the meantime, I will scan a Washington state roadmap, just for fun on the trip down and east. Are your maps in jpg format by any chance? I keep meaning to convert mine to jpg so that they take up less hard disk space. Maybe you have a jpg small enough to email of North Seattle where EGH! lives...? icon_biggrin.gif

  13. Would this be a good time to mention that we FINALLY got our Compaq notebook on a highspeed connection? Cacherunner can now log at the same time as I can. How long before she passes me in finds? icon_wink.gif

I DO like setting OziExlorer on the Compaq to communicate with my Legend, to show us exactly where we are in the car at all times, but I have calibrated Topo maps for Vancouver Island and BC mainland only. Does anyone have a jpg or two calibrated for OziExplorer of Washington State, specifically Spokane or Seattle areas? I would be happy to trade my BC maps, calibrated to 1 meter, if anyone's interested.

Does this mean you're going to show us those quick ones along I-90 on our way to SCM, EGH? Cacherunner wants to know if she has to give up the shotgun seat, (known as "Nonviolent firearm free persuasion seat" here in Canada) or if you can just point from the back seat.

  15. Reservations made and confirmed, and they even have High Speed Internet Access. Life is good!

Maynard's wine gums located and retrieved, as well as Wuderbars. Location N48 30.334, W123. 24.885. Now what do I bribe the Customs guy with?

  16. Having had some small experience with having to leave home because of a fire, our hearts go out to those in Kelowna and Kamloops. I know the Premier will come through fot those affected, but for once, Prime Minister Chretien, please try to understand that British Columbians are Canadians too, and not just some far off colony, without any real significance to Ontario and Quebec. Yes, opening that new park im Nunavut is important, but so are the lives of the people in Kelowna. The park will still be there for your photo ops, and the people of Kelowna need federal aid NOW, not later.

  17. Pepper, Wienerdog, LucyandRicky, Travis!!... where are we staying again? Travelodge? I gotta make reser bations soon...icon_smile.gifAnd I need two parking spaces for HMCS Cachecruiser. Do they charge extra for the extra dock space, and for the Suzuki swifts to use as tugs to help us berth it?
