  1. Cachewidow, your wisdom humbles me. That is a brilliant idea. Now, how do we all get together and agree to donate to Charity? Should KFWB leave certificates in caches, to be filled in with the charity of your choice? Should it go to Santa's Anonymous with the cacher's handle on it as the person/team donating? If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  2. I forgot. Cheers Geochamp. I saw your post in the other thread. You rock. If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  3. Hey Zuuk, I DID go through the logs on Bold Endurance, and was pleased to see that the site, (On Baynes Pk., it looks like to me) IS a great site. I will be doing this one on a sunny day soon. I saw the pics eroyd took soon after posting my comments. Figures huh?( btw, excellent images eroyd!) I congratulate all that chased this one, and would have been happy to do so myself, had I not had to work, or if I had had a proper vehicle for it, etc. It was fun watching it. I still come back to this: Was the chase for the chase? Or was the chase for the money? No one has answered that for me yet. It's always about: "THIS CLUE will be released on Friday!!" or "I chased a GPS tag past Port Renfrew." I ask, would the same level of enthusiasm be there, if I offered 10 bucks, as cdms and I did at the first 2 multi-caches here on the Southern Island? As for GeoDoctor, I understand how you are upset by being questioned. I don't blame you. However, the forums are free for all to have their say. If I don't want to do KFWB caches, I don't have to. Nor do I have to read forum posts, if I so choose. Always remember though, that knowledge, pleasant or not, always enhances our understanding. Tolerance is a virtue. If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  4. I stand corrected. I, indeed, should have said spelling, not grammatical errors. I thank the Loonie Easter bunnies for pointing this out. Besides, I make more mistakes than anyone I know. Re: Bold Endurance..CZuk, I now have the GPSr that I will require to do some of these. I hope that the view you refer to is truly worthy, as I am extremely picky. I hope the cash is all gone, and there are some small trade items, so I can make a normal trade. Have you guys posted any pictures of these places? I have yet to see any. What's up with that? If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  5. "Let me tell ya 'bout a story of a man named eroyd, Pore Mountaineer, barely saw v and c-royd, Then one day he was huntin up a stash, and up through the ground came KFWB cash! Money that is, Green Gold, BC Tea. First thing ya know eroyd's a hundred-are. Cachewidow said, eroyd, get away from there! Home with the girls is the place ya oughta be, Come fix the furnace, to hell with KFWB! She said Lower Mainland is the place we oughta be, So they packed up the Jimmy, and moved to Shaunessy.. Hills that is. Maintenance free furnaces, new KFWB caches." I missed my calling, with respects to Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. Merry Xmas, eroyd, cachewidow, v-royd and c-royd! If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  6. Hey eroyd, I thought about searching the USS Lexington Cachecruiser, but I did not have the eTrex Venture that day. Cacherunner had the Dinghy (Pontiac) and took the eTrex to Mystic Vale. Elly May would be about 106, by now wouldn't she?..Hmm...maybe them Hill Folk age better. I should ask cachewidow what she thinks... I keep my.. AHEM..eTrex Legend on a lanyard around my neck for easy decapitation. I also have the official handy dandy Garmin almost see through carrying case, with belt clasp, and I attach that to my vest at the shoulder, so I don't lose coverage as much in the bush. This is crucial when first becoming lost, as it is much easier to become more lost if you can follow your own track, and see where you haven't been lost yet. It also makes it easier to resist the temptation to check the GoTo distance...every 5 meters. If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  7. I have been trickle charging NiMH's now for 6 months. Although it can take 20 hours to charge them, it takes a very long time to flatten them, almost as long as regular Duracells. I do note, however, that on my Garmin eTrex Legend battery display, the charge indicator rapidly drops to the half mark, then takes forever to finally run out of juice. (It's kind of like a GM gas guage in reverse. Sits on Full forever.. then drops like a stone) If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  8. What the hell is "loose" it? When something of mine goes missing, I "lose" it. Or has the language changed that much since I took grammar? What do you say champ? Are you a pro? Is geocaching all about the money, or all about the hunt, the hide, or the trip home? P.S. It's Solar Plexus. If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  9. Sigh, it does work on a Legend, ver 2.41, but NOT my Legend with ver 2.50. I guess I should have done the startup screen, then updated the software. It does state, however, to do the upgrade first. Any Legend owners, go with 2.41, do the screen , then upgrade, and hope that doesn't wipe out your new startup. If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  10. Hey RobertM, She says she is going back again tomorrow, trip number 4. It's in very deep undergrowth, I am told, so I have my doubts. Would love to see you over here at the event. Bring some folks with you, and share the ferry fare. Then you can teach me those gazintas. If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  11. Well, as we used to say back home, "To each, their own " I use the lanyard, wrapped around a button on my wrist, or in summer, my belt. Oh and by the way RobertM, I'm 6. We aren't as accelerated in school as you mainland folks. Next year I learn my Gazintas. If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  12. I fix computers, and part time, am a transportation consulting engineer. I also get lost in the woods. A LOT. "How far from the car are we again? In days?" If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  13. A brand new ETREX?? eroyd?? Wow...what model? Guess who got an eTrex (Legend) early, from an older relative? No, cacherunner doesn't get to use it, at least for a while. I want to lose this one myself. Ok, eroyd, you and cacherunner watch the kids at the event, and cachewidow and I can go start that "Happy Birthday 2U" cache for her birthday. And btw, I know she's gonna be 22. So there. If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  14. Ok, now we know that Team KFWB GPS is a real good asset to the scene, they proved it to me, anyway. Now we need a DEBATE between a "do it cuz it's fun/the place/the hunt/" person, and a "Do it for the money" person. I can't nominate for my own side, so I think the most worthy opponents are: Team KFWB GPS. But, they aren't going to, because they are too involved personally. Hmm...hey Zuuk, wanna try? If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  15. RobertM, I think you have something there. It might be fun...Maybe I WILL put it up as a sort of KFWB cache, "To the first finder only, one Garmin Etrex Venture. The cache will be archived after the first successful log entry!" We could call it "BOLD DEFIANT NAVIOGATIONAL TOY AT THE HILL COMMAND DECISION KEEP THE GPSR CACHE"..or something like that... Hey Dagg.. a multi?? KEWL.. I think I'm gonna rent a GPSr to get started. Dagg caches are wayyyyyyy kewl for you folks who haven't dome any. Colour me Dagg for the next week or so. If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  16. I buy everything except batteries, because I use Lithium rechargebles. Eveything I dfo goes into the local community. (Jordan River, mostly, in the case of KFWB or Plantman caches. ) If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  17. When I found out, I think I said, "Oh golly gee, darn." Yah, I'm sitckin' to that. That's my story. If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  18. I note with satisfacton that Team KFWB GPS has shown integrity and fair play, by not removing my note on their new cache site: web page As I was already sure, they are truly a worthy addition to the geocaching scene here on the Island. I challenged them, and they proved the mettle of which they are made. Here's to you, Team KFWB GPS! Now don't think I won't want to debate you some time though... If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  19. SHUSH you guys!!! Santa might have to come early!! Don't tell her fer Gawd's Sake!! If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  20. I agree with cachewidow. There SHOULD be caches that are REALLY tough. I have had more fun figuring out a way to a Dagg or eroyd cache, than any other type of cache. These are no different. Hey, I have even done some of the math for KFWB caches in the past, I just haven't had the time ( I work weekends a lot) to go get them when the gates on the logging roads are open. Having said that, and after reading the logs from the weekend of November 24th, I see NO evidence of a place to go, just for the sake of the place, or any other redeeming characteristic of the final cache spot, save for the money. In other words, would cachers go to these spots if there were NO money in the cache, just a log book? I know of at least 3 who would, and eroyd is one of them. I note that interpersonal relationships were formed, and I believe, damaged, by the interactions around two caches above Jordan Ridge. I have a real drive to go to Rednecks and Wildflowers, for example. I have pestered numerous other cachers to go with me, and have not yet been successful. I will probably get there eventually, but it's not because there is money there. To me, that's what it's about. Yes, I AM an idealist, and very old fashioned, but that's who I am. I'm the guy who has tears come to his eyes when I look at Leech Falls during high runff, because of the sheer beauty. My desktop wallpaper is cache sites that I would NEVER have seen, were it not for people around here who made me go there, without a financial incentive. Here's to eroyd, cachewidow, v-royd, and c-royd. They inflamed my passion for going to these places, and Yellowcode convinced me that I could actually go there. Dagg taught me that the chase is the thing. Plantman showed me how to be patient. The rest of you showed me that the place IS the thing, not the money. You guys rock. If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  21. I agree that WE own the forests, Dagg. My problem is that if we as a group are perceived as destructive in any way, we will be banned from areas that we now have free access to. In the US, National Parks are off limits to geocachers, for example. About the Gate... I would have cut it off as well, because safety and threat to life was involved. I just hope that we can be as friendly to the folks who own the tree licences as we are to the environment that we all are trying to care for. Maybe as well as the slogan "Cache In, Trash Out" there could be, "I think, therefore I cache." or "I think before I cache." I am without a GPSr for the forseeable future, so I look forward to watching everyone else's exploits. Cache on, folks, and please make the log entires like being there, for we handicapped folks. If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  22. Jeremy..YOU ROCK!!! If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  23. So how many did you folks out there near Port Renfrew actually get? Your Logs are, shall we say, interesting. Was it truly fun, or truly a b***h? I don't think I could get that excited for $1000. Maybe $10000, but.... Felt bad reading about that walk past the locked gates. If you guys had had a Satellite phone, I'd have been the first person there to come get you. This is not what it's about, though. Locked gates? 2:30 AM? Sigh... If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  24. Well, we did two polar bear swims on New Year's Day last year, Sooke and Elk Lake. So anything goes, we figure. You still thinking saltchuck, Coast, or are we doing some ice chipping? If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
  25. I like Ozi Explorer, but it's all I've ever used. Tracklogs, waypoints, and calibrations are so easy even I can do them. Is that a help? If I ain't sweatin', I ain't cachin. Are we there yet?
