I have received a couple dozen requests and about half as many paid orders over the past day. If you have paid you should have been shown a link to a page on my website where a list will be posted and updated for order status.
If you lost that link just post here or email me and I'll send it to you.
Thanks all!

I'm curious also........how did you get yours trackable? Did you have to buy a group or lot of tracking numbers. It looks like your tracking # for that handmade coin is GG not PC, are you using another coins tracking # for your personal coin?
I think your example here is opening up some ideas and/or questions as to what is allowed. Any details you could provide would be appreciated.
Tsun.
Sorry tsun for taking so long to post an answer, I've been in and out all day.
Generally no, I don't want this thread to turn into a rules and applications thread but I have no problems otherwise (:
I simply submitted my general design with the idea of it being trackable. I was asked to provide a photo and agree to some terms that IMHO don't need to be publically disclosed (though Bryan is more than welcome to if he so desires). I was given approval for selling them as is with the GG prefix tracking codes that I pay a non-bulk rate for (unfortunately I have to make this up in the price).
You can PM me if you want more specific info or start a discussion thread otherwise.
Fun Stuff! Thanks All!

Put me down for one. What does the other side look like?
Great, danoshimano!
The other side is variable, you can have it personalized with whatever family friendly text (up to 25 characters including spaces), but no images. The series is only approved for text. If you don't want it personalized it will have my slogan (arranged so it fits) "Not all who wander are lost".

Cool, the first geocaching.com approved handmade coin that's trackable.
Yeah, I'll take one!
Thanks Rasi!
I'll get back to you later tonight

I'd probably buy one if it were your personal coin. But, we already have a personal coin...
Ah, it is my personal coin. Its a bit of a personal quest away from manufactured swag.
It does come with my geoname on it of course:)

Now officially approved as the 1st and (currently) only handmade trackable geocoin series that happens to be my signature coin. Wohoo.
As of now the tracking number will be a "Generic Geocoin" code but if by some miracle a couple hundred are sold it will get its own tracking code series and icon.
If you would like to purchase one, reply here and I will message you with details, or I am also selling them on eBay. Just search for "Handmade Trackable Geocoin" without the quotes "" .
All orders will be customizable with up to a 25 character line to go around the perimeter and a 6 character word in the center.
The coin is made of lead (Pb) but after molding, hammering and engraving, it will be clear coated
for safe handling. The face of the coin is protected by a raised edge (much like a penny or nickel is) and
then filled with a clear enamel/epoxy to give it a smooth, protected surface.
Coin will be made and shipped 3-5 days after payment if purchased through eBay since I already have the codes reserved for those. Otherwise it maybe a little longer so I can purchase codes accordingly (probably once weekly groups of coins will be shipped out).
Asking price is $14.99
After supplies I only make less than a buck from it but like I said, if lots are ordered I use that buck to purchase a custom icon for it. Otherwise it just buys this starving college student some school lunches.

The photo doesn't do it justice, but here it is.

quick edit to note simply that the handmade coin of mine has been formally approved as a geocoin.
-
I got mine used for very cheap and works great but I would like to replace the beat up exterior and don't want to pay garmin $150 for it.
Anyone have one, maybe from a 60cs that is broken and willing to sell cheap(er)?

I have always used GSAK but as of late, when I go to start it, the spash screen comes up and it freezes. Nothing at all happens.
I checked the website and the only solution they have listed is to make sure an antivirus isn't interfering. I completely removed all antivirus stuff, firewall, windows setting everything and it still freezes.
Anyone else had this problem. What fixed it?
edit to note that I have uninstalled, re-installed changed versions and everything.

Don't care if I drove an hour to get to it, if I walk to the coords and it brings me to a pine tree and I know I'm probably looking for a film canister on a piece of coat hanger I just turn around.
Sorry all, can't stand them.

The lead I used had a previous life as a fishing weight. If those are safe to handle and dangle in our water supply I would assume it can be used as a trinket (especially clear coated and in a baggy saying not to eat it:)).
I actually tried the solder, and other than costing almost 10 times as much, it was far too soft, using a hammer to shape it was like trying to shape mashed potatoes.
I will definitely check out some of those alloys, though. 25 pounds really isn't very much if they weigh anything close to what lead does. 25 pounds of aluminum though...
Something to look into anyway, I appreciate the link!

Nice. How long did it take you to make one?
melt and mold about 5 minutes, hammering takes about 30 minutes. And clearcoating it thick without glopping it up takes a day or so.
-
Very cool, didn't realize the GS was going to let people do handmade trackable. Is it going to have your name on it?
My name is on the back of it.
The trackable code is a generic geocoin code, a mini photo/copy of which will travel with it.
-
Melted, molded, pounded & engraved.
Made of lead (all I can manage to melt), but is clear coated to avoid handling issues and is placed in a baggie with a warning not to eat it
Has a raised edge to prevent wear on the trackable code (much like pennies and other coins do) and is about the size of 1.5 stacked silver dollars.
Just looking for some opinions before I send it out to the world

Is there a reason you just dont buy them from Groundspeak?
http://shop.Groundspeak.com/productDetail....mp;ProductID=23
yes there is
-
I agree with this. The 250 minimum at $1.50 a piece is fine for making geocoins. But it is too expensive and impracticle for a person who just wants 5 or 10 items to be trackable and that aren't necessarily coins.
Buying a TB tag and copying the code is easy enough but my guess is that the TB codes are all generated at one location by a computer. What is so difficult in just purchasing a handful of them and receiving them via email through an automated system? It would save the custer wait time and money since shipping isn't an issue, and save Groundspeak some cash by not creating the tags. I would almost guarantee it would increase sales.
No?
-
Have some TB's that never got used?
I'd like to buy a few just for the codes to make some handmade items trackable.
I'll paypal whatever it was that you paid for them, thanks!
-
Oh yes. The scar appears small, but it shows little of how deep it was.

I'm looking for answers not TB advice, if you don't have an answer then move along.
Is there a rule saying I must have the tag attached?
Where can I buy just TB codes without the tag if available?
-
They are small coin-like trinkets, if a person looks at them they will notice the TB number.
-
I'd like to make my handmade items trackable but don't want to drill them to attatch a TB tag. Is it allowed to take the TB code and just put it on the item I want to track?
If so, is there a way to buy just the TB codes and not have to wait for the actual tags in the mail?
-
Why not just make your coins and drill them out and attach a travel bug to them?
(: too normal. but it may be pretty close to what I end up doing unfortunately.
-
I make my own geocoins (yes melt, hammer and engrave, not just scratch pet ID tags) and would like to make them trackable so here are some questions that I haven't been able to just find a straight answer to.
If I wanted to purchase a number of trackable codes from geocaching.com how much would it cost? for 10, 50, 100 or whatever the minimum is?
If that costs too much (i'm guessing it will), is there a way i can just purchase a handful of generic geocoin codes or TB codes and just get them from email or something and not wait a week for the tags in the mail?
Thanks!
You can buy a minimum of 250 tracking codes at $1.50 a piece, but I don't know about buying them and putting on something you make, I'm thinking Groundspeak isn't going to approve that.
I didn't realize there was an approval needed to get geocoin codes. Good point.
TB's get attached to items all the time and aren't approved formally by GC (at least mine weren't?). Can I buy TB codes in bulk?
