  1. Thanks for the help on this. It was a small hanging container with a camo cover.

I do have a nice cacher that is covering for me while we are in the west valley here in Arizona.

I will be back late March and do a maint. run on all my caches there.

This cache was a 'hanger' and every time I visited it, the container was in a different location, which is Ok, as long as it was accessible.

I imagine it got dropped into the weeds on the far side of the tree.

After reviewing the posts, I imagine the recent log entry was not a recent find. I will leave it 'as is' for now.

I do have a neat cache just down the road a bit: 'The Bunker' GC3KZJH so it wouldn't be a waste of time to visit the site, but I will wait.

You folks are super, thanks for the input.

  2. Hi,

Bought it used for a back-up, my main is the Oregon 550. Totally different animal.

First, is the only options on caches the number, can you toggle to a cache name?

Second,When I scroll to the cache number and 'click' on it with the joystick, sometimes it brings up the cache name, but mostly it asks 'Move?' and I can't get out of that mode.

Somehow, I also get locked into a waypoint, and I can't seem to get out of that. How do you clear that?

Thanks, I will continue to read the manual, but it is frustrating using it.

  3. Welcome!

Grab a couple of buddies and come out to Tonopah. Plan a long week-end and look for some of my caches on Saddle Mountain, there is a hot spring soak there to relax, after a hard day. Ease into the hunt with my 'Seven sins of Tonopah'

Read the Forum it will answer many questions you will have, and PM anyone here, they are good Peeps!

  4. I know that all of our returning service people are not visually wounded, so the series of caches should be for all of them, but I am thinking limited mobility should be on the list. So many of our service people have given so much.

I have read this Forum enough to see that we have some very smart Peeps here, let's have some ideas.

My thoughts are maybe 4 or 5, maybe Lock-and-lock type containers, maybe some hanging, adding some micros, maybe at city, county parks, and?????????? Themed?

I have already got permission from our local county park for a cache, they are 'on board' for Geocaching.

    Thanks, OzzOzz

  5. Hi,

I placed a Marine Geocoin package, (I altered the coin and had it in a small plastic box) the coin is dedicated to a friend with cancer, a player picked it up, but it still shows in the log as being in the cache: (Mobil Dash)

What can I do to show it picked up? I did email the guy that picked it up, but he did not get back to me (yet)

    Thanks, OzzOzz

  6. I was afraid I would have to bring this up... I was placing a really neat hide, a rock with a hole in it and a small container in it. Really good cache, as it looked like every other rock in Arizona, on Saddle Mountain. I stopped and retrieved a cache I had hid too close to another, had to move it 51 feet... (No, I can't make an exception, if I did it for you, I would have to do it for everyone else.. note from reviewer)

So, I set my rock down with the container in it, was looking at the GPS to move the 51', and after about 40 feet, where's my rock?, took me an hour to find it. Swore to myself I wouldn't say anything to anybody, but since we are baring it all here....

  7. The blue box is an inside box, you should convert the blue to a weather-tight outside box, or at least paint it, anyone electrically knowledgeable will spot it as a fake, and possibly destroy it. Don't get me wrong, very clever and a good cache. Except for the blue box.

  8. I have been caching here in Arizona, west of Phoenix about 45 miles at Saddle Mountain, and out in the mountains around here, have seen quite a few Rattlers, one hit me as I was coming down into a ravine, I got my camera out as he was still stretched out, as I took pictures, he coiled back up. I make tons of noise, my walking stick has a foot-long rebar in the end, I use for support on mountain sides, so he knew I was coming, I guess I got too close to him, and bam! I felt it, thought it was a branch.

Before I went into these rocky mountains, I got snake 'Gators', off the Internet, came from Bozeman, around $70.00.

Money well spent... I feel fairly safe with them on, but you never are 100% protected, on steep slopes, I am eye level with rocks they like to live in.

One by a cache I avoided

  9. I too, am a little confused, but I think you plug in the GPS, open the window for the PQ, open the window for the GPS, and drag the PQ over to the GX file???

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

The last time I messed up is when I downloaded pictures from my Garmin Oregon, it deleted all the wallpaper pictures as well as the photos off the Garmin, forgot to un-check the delete pictures on the card..

  10. Click on this link for the entire series of containers and relating material:

    various containers and making caches

I get my stuff from the Dollar store and Joanne's Hobby store.

Making Camo for containers, I find three colors are good: (For Arizona where we are)

I can get 8 small notebooks out of one large pad, just cut with H.D. shears.

The pencils, I either cut once or three times, depends on the size I need. I use a fine tooth saw for this.

Finished contaners, small ones. I like to put smalls in them for SWAG, my wife has made jewelery we put in them now.

  11. Well, I came up with the idea of hiding a micro in a hole drilled in a rock. I gathered 3 rocks, different colors and shading to match the rocks around here, here is what I did:

I jammed a split washer in the hole, so the magnetic container would adhere to it, you can shake the rock upside down and it won't fall out. I left the container out a little so the container can be plucked out easily.

Hope you all find it now!
