  1. Hi Jeremy, I have a request for you . . . I'm using JohnTee as a handle . . . how about some kind of stylish toilet with a 'T' coming out of the bowl? Thanks much for you offer of help. The art side of my brain is definitely underdeveloped and I have been wondering who I might get to help me with this idea for an avatar. JohnTee
  2. I have access to a limited supply of hemostats (some of you may think of them as 'Roach Clips' ) that may become one of my cache items. I've also thought about burning CD's with eBooks for Microsoft Reader and Various Palm Readers. Suppose either one could become a signature item. JohnTee

  6. I'm wanting to get my Garmin eTrex Legend connected to my laptop. No Serial Port, but three USB Ports. Bought a Dynex Modell DX-UBDB9 USB PDA/Serial Adapter Cable at Best Buy tonight. It indicates compatibility with GPSr's on the packaging. First I had to go to http://www.dynexproducts.com to get the DX-UBDB9_Drivers.zip file, since WXP did not recognize the device when plugged in. Driver up and adapter recognized. Plugged the GPS into the USB/Serial Adapter and did not get any recognition from the PC. Running EasyGPS, choosing Garmin eTrex Legend in the setup; options for choosing Port/Speed or USB interface are grayed out. Unable to send or receive. Looks like the GPS is not being seen by the PC through the adapter. Does anyone have exprience with the Dynex adapter and/or have any suggestions? Is there a better adapter to use? Would I be better off getting a USB cable for my connection? Thanks! John
  7. Hi Gretel, Easily done. Just go to: Main Menu (push joystick in once and choose main menu and click joystick or Page to Main Menu) Highlight the Page Option Menu (highlight just to the left of the 'X') and press the joystick once. "Owner Information" will pop-up. Press the joystick You should be off and running. Just got mine and am learning how to use it. John
  8. <John Quoted Linda> When you are satisfied with the coordinates keyed in, press 'Exit' - this will take you into another menu where you can further edit your newly created waypoint. At the bottom of the screen, you can use your 'Arrow' key to scroll through choices such as 'GoTo', 'Find on Map', 'Edit Name', 'Edit Symbol'. <end quote. Hi Linda, Thank you very much for the reply. Strange enough, that sounds exactly like what I was doing. Entered a complete Lat/Long, then hit exit, which is where I expected another menu. That's where I got the error message. I wonder if I've got a software glitch? Not sure if you will call what I did, "panic", but I have bought a Garmin eTrex Legend and will be returning the Lowrance to Bass Pro. I was not pleased with the skimpy manual, there was a very S L O W screen recovery when panning and the down key did not work very well. I knew at the time of purchase there was no PC intereface and thought it was something I could live without. The Garmin eTrex Legend came with a more complete manual, manual coord entry works without problem, screen recovery is MUCH faster and it has a PC interface. All for only $32 more at my friendly local Wally World! I've already played with the Garmin quite a bit and am very pleased with it. Have yet to play with the PC interface. Have yet to geocache with it . . . maybe tomorrow! Thanks. John
  9. Received a Lowrance iFinder Go2 for Christmas. I'm already wishing that I had picked something a little higher up that would PC interface. Regardless, can anyone give me an idea of how to manually enter a waypoint in the Go2? When I press "Ent" I'm given the option to "Create Waypoint" in the form of: "Quick Save" "Current Pos" "Cursor Pos" "Entered Pos" "Averaged Pos" "Projected Pos" In my mind, "Entered Pos" would be the place to enter a position. Chose "Entered Pos" and "Create" and I get a window to "Edit Position" entering a Lat/Long. From there, I would think that I should be able to 'Save' the entered position with a name. The ONLY thing I can get, past entering the coord's, is "Exit" which gives me an error message "The position has not been entered completely" "Change Cancel". "Change" takes me back into editing the lat/long and "Cancel" completely exits out of this menu. The 'basic' manual that comes with it addresses very little. The downloaded 'Advanced' manual does not address the "Entered Pos" menu entry!?!?! Beyond this, I'm contemplating returning this to Bass Pro Shops and upgrading. John
