  1. Interesting indeed. I wonder how the logs of the trackables that passed through that cache are impacted.
  2. Ah - I guess I've never run across a retraction before. I did see a potential issue with the cache (proximity to school grounds) that I would have noted in my log. No biggie but curious, when does a reviewer retract vs. archive?
  3. I collected the information for a cache I wanted to find yesterday (GC1894B) and went and found the cache this afternoon without any trouble. Today when I went to log the cache, I was unable to locate it in the site anymore. I thought maybe it had just been archived but I don't even see it listed as an archived cache under the hider's name, SuperCoop. I even looked at the profile of the finder listed in the logbook before me and don't see it listed as a found cache in his profile eitherI've never run across this before. Any ideas?
  4. Just got my wife the Stylus 790SW for Christmas. Great camera!!! Stablization, Waterproof (including underwater photos), shock proof, low temps etc. Besides that, I'm partial to Olympus. What really led me to this one is the waterproof thing. Looks like we may get a chance to test that out in the rain at the Vancouver Cache Machine this weekend.
  5. There may be a topic - but I couldn't find it, so if there is, feel free to move it - THANK YOU!! A huge thank you to Sinterklaas for sending me the Sinterklaas coin. We celebrated SinterKlaas with our kids not too long before that. It was the most perfect coin for us being Dutch. It is probably one of my favorite ones I have, just due to the fact that someone sent it to me, and I don't know who. I recently started staying home with my kids and to do that, have cut back about 90% of my coin buying, although I still watch the forums to see all the fun new ones coming out. So THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Blue Power Ranger (The Mrs.)
  6. Here is our dilemma - and maybe if some of you weigh in on it, we can figure out what to do. We really wanted to make this coin and make it trackable. We wanted to make a specific metal and offer one to buy for every single hider. They have all been so wonderful to work with and have placed caches for this series in some great places! In our dream world - we wanted one metal for hiders, one for anyone that had found the whole series (that we would just give them), and one for people to be able to buy. When we talked to one of the coin places, they were concerned that there wasn't enought interest and wanted to offer the coin for people that found it to anyone who has found a cache in every state regardless if it was part of this series. We really didn't want to do that because we kind of felt like that took away from people that have driven so far out of their way for these specific caches. But since we were asking the coin place to help us finance - we felt stuck. So we just kind of didn't go anywhere with it for awhile now. We did have wesleykey offer to try and just have a nontrackable one available, but then we also thought maybe people wouldn't want as many that way. But I don't know - do you guys have a big preference? Trackable, non-trackable?? On the other hand, I keep seeing "artist edition" metal finishes - so are wondering if we just bought a couple finishes that only we were able to buy, then maybe offer those to our hiders and finders..... This seems so rambling on....which I don't mean it to be - So maybe some of you involved can let us know what you think. Those that have had coins made, and those that buy coins.
  7. That one gets a good review from Trip Advisor. It is on Choice Hotels for $53.10. You just have to change the rate to internet users rate. And I was able to get that rate for 2 Queen beds, 4 people. Can't beat that since it includes breakfast. We have it booked Friday and Saturday night.
  8. I couldn't help but drop a polite note myself. Thanks for the link. Though some of you might be interested in seeing the reply email that I received from the City of Seattle Parks. It might provide some additional insight into the situation. For what it is worth... November 30, 2007 Thank you for contacting us about geocaching in Discovery Park. There is not an outright ban on geocaching in Discovery Park. But because geocaching was done without permission from us as the property owner and was done in harmfully inappropriate ways, we have reached an agreement with Playtime for one-day-only geocaches to be created in conjunction with Discovery Park's environmental education staff. In that way, staff can ensure that the geocaching is done in ways that do no harm to wildlife and habitat. Previous geocachers in Discovery Park have created social trails in environmentally sensitive areas that should have no trails, and have damaged habitat restoration areas. One geocache project even placed an object in the nest of a pair of rare long-eared owls; the nest was subsequently abandoned and the long-eared owls have not nested in the park since. If you have further questions about geocaching in Discovery Park, you can reach Penny Rose, Public Education Program Specialist at Discovery Park Environmental Learning Center, at penny.rose@seattle.gov or (206) 386-4250. Sincerely, Laurie Dunlap Superintendent's Office, Seattle Parks and Recreation
  9. If there are locals that know of a nice hotel down there that isn't too pricey can you let us know. My kids only needs - an indoor pool
  10. I couldn't help but drop a polite note myself. Thanks for the link.
  11. For just day to day caching, I just slip a Samsung Digimax D53 in my pocket. I bought this camera just for caching. It is small, seems to have been fairly rugged, has pretty good battery life, and takes good pics all for under $100. As a former camera snob, I have been pretty happy with what I have gotten out of this camera. Best of all, I'm not stressed out that I am going to damage or lose it since it didn't cost me a fortune. I don't believe it has image stabilization per se but the pics have seemed pretty sharp to me. Maybe I just have steady hands.
  12. Look at the date I got when I clicked the link: Tuesday, September 12, 2017 Hmmm..... I know some people will do anything for a smiley, but come on, logging caches from the future....that's just wrong. How do you think I get my FTFs?
  13. Well.............wouldn't you know, once we said there hadn't been any progress on it, we were contacted by one of the coin companies, and there is now being progress made again. WHOO HOO!! We hope to have some news very soon.
  14. I just wanted to be one more person to thank Travis for all his planning for this cache machine. We didn't get a chance to meet you to tell you thank you in person so doing it here and on the cache page. This was a lot of fun. It is obvious to anyone that is there how much work you put into it. We really appreciate it. You had a great set of caches picked out and a great route figured out. It was so fun to see different groups of cachers as we made our way down the route. We ran into a few groups multiple times during the day and just overall had a great day. I really hope to be able to do any other cache machines that are scheduled. It was also nice at dinner to see how quickly all the cachers pitched in to be sure Travis wasn't left with a $375 bill (That would be one expensive dinner) What a great group of people. We would have liked to get around at dinner and meet more of you - but we had really pushed our 1 yr old as far as he could go that day. We needed to get him home. Maybe next time. THANK YOU for all your work! Blue Power Ranger (Jeff and Valerie)
  15. Unfortunately there is no progress on the coint to report at this point. We'll see if we can get going again on this very soon.
  16. I just bought Garmin Mapsource. When I send waypoints to my GPS it displays wapoint names. Is there a way I could show waypoints by nickname (comments) instead? I'd rather know I was looking for "Cache with a view" than "GPXXX".
  17. I am glad you posted your Shameless Plug. Without it, we wouldn't have seen these events. The Rest in Pieces sounds like a lot of fun for our whole family. We are going to try and come up for that - I am sure you don't mind out of towners.
  18. Without any of the money part involved, I think it could be very fun. We recently participated in the Wonka Caper Event and while that didn't involve multiple cities, it did involve puzzles at multiple locations and a race to finish it. It was a lot of fun. We can't wait for next year!
  19. Whenever I'm out hiking alone, I bring my well-behaved black lab along with me. My assumption has always been that he would aid me in a similar situation. Now I'm having second thoughts.
  20. Any picture with a log is better than no picture with a log. PS
  21. Very cool challenge. I just started looking at my completed Terrain/Difficulty combinations this morning. Looks like I have some work to do to finish this off. At least I have 48 of the combinations completed. The only rule that I have any concern (for lack of a better term) with is... All finds except CITO and Event caches must be on caches that were published before this cache to avoid dummy caches being listed just to meet the requirements of this cache. The exceptions may be (at the cache owner's discretion) caches published that satisfy a D/T combination that didn’t exist or were rare prior to the publication of this cache. Those exceptions may be added once there is adequate evidence that they are indeed the D/T combination stated. In the event that such a cache becomes allowed, the placer will not receive credit for the D/T combination of the stated cache. They will still be required to go elsewhere to satisfy that D/T rating if such a cache exists in the state. That just seems that it will become problematic as months/years go by. Will there be a maintained list of newer "approved" caches that can be used for this challenge?
  22. It would be really nice if there was a way to do this without having to go in and delete all the individual caches first. Just a "delete this bookmark" button. I need to clean up all my bookmarks, but it takes soooooo long!
