  1. A couple of years ago for my father-in-law (a prolific cacher) we did a 12 days of Christmas-themed geocaching present. Each day for 12 days, he was given a poem hinting at his prize and a set of coordinates for where the prize could be found in and around his home-town. He had a lot of fun with it. I don't remember everything we hid anymore but it was simple stuff like 7 travel bugs, 6 lock & locks, 5 geocoins, etc. etc. On the final day, Christmas morning, I had arranged with our local reviewer to publish an actual listed cache I had hidden only a couple of miles from his home knowing that he loves to be FTF more than anything else. Of course I placed it 20ft up a pine (Christmas) tree.
  2. I also got these in the mail this week and I have to say - they are sooooo nice. A huge thank you to Michael Atwell for getting my husbands design to look so wonderful on a coin! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
  3. Wow, I hadn't heard this. How lame. I bought a subscription for myself and gave one as a gift. Nice that they let their subscribers know they were being discontinued. Apparently there are not too many of us or they might still be around.
  4. White on both side with hard enamel - Current and former owners Black on map side white on other with hard enamel - Finders of the entire series I sent out emails to all the former and current owners today to contact Michael Atwell at mike@atwellfamily.net ASAP if you are interested in an owner coin.

  6. Looks like we will be able to offer them to current AND past hiders. Cool. Are we going to get an email about this or something? *feels clueless* Yes - you will - we are still waiting on pricing. I didn't want to email people yet - we trying to get a great price for the hiders.
  7. Looks like we will be able to offer them to current AND past hiders.
  8. Right now there have been 2 finders, but we have some people pretty close. As he said up above, webscouter is only 8 away. We know of someone that is 2 away. There are a quite a few people with a lot of finds.
  9. Maybe a Moderator can edit the title to reflect the coins are now available for presale.. It has been a little while - but wanted to say we are very excited that this coin is finally available for presale! A big thanks to Coinsandpoins and Michael Atwell for making this coin a reality after we were not able to completely take care of it ourselves. It is available as a presale in both polished gold - at coinsandpins.com and polished nickel - at coinsandpins.com Looks like they are working with us to have a special finish available for purchase by whoever is a hider of one of the 51 caches. If I understand correctly, there will only be 51 of these available. We will be contacting all 51 hiders in the next week to see if they would like to purchase one of these coins. There will also be a special finish available as a gift to people that have actually finished all 51 caches. Additional information on these coins - Measures 2.25" across Translucent colors Epoxy coated for added protection Trackable on Geocaching.com An icon unique to this coin will show on your profile when you log a discovery We are very excited to have this become a reality!! 10. We have #2 nice and safe and warm in our house now. We will have to take some pictures later!
  11. I just took two of my kids (9 & 13) backpacking to Goat Lake & Snowgrass Flats in Washington State's Goat Rocks Wilderness Area 8/30/08 - 8/31/08. Nothing like hiking in a little snow in August to keep you humble.
  12. That is a bummer. My family used it this summer, and while it would be nice if it was a little less money, I am sure had ** I ** been the shuttle, and stayed in North Bend the whole time, I am sure it would have cost us a considerable bit more. - Mrs Blue Power Ranger
  13. SO just to be sure - we are watching this forum for the info or the event page? Thanks!
  14. PM sent to get 10. Thanks - Blue Power Ranger
  15. Thanks for this info! I'm thinking of taking two of my kids up to do this Saturday morning. Leaving the car and taking the bikes on the shuttle up to the tunnel, hit the ape cache (again) and then a few more on the way down.
  16. I've seen that same hint before on caches that were hidden on a payphone, or in a phonebooth.
  17. Great thread. Here are some of my favorites hiking on Mt. Rainier to Banana Slugs & High Places and Top o' the field . This hike featured some of the most beutiful scenery I have ever seen.
  18. Wow, by those standards there won't be many threads left open.
  19. This is what has worked for me as well. They are very durable, abundantly available and you get two of them for less than $5 at pretty much any thrift store.
  20. We cache a lot and hike some (depending on what kids are up for) as a family. Dad, mom, 3 kids from 2-13 and one more on the way.
  21. I said it all in my log but this event was just AMAZING. Our team had a great time, can't wait to go next year. If organizers do decide to put together a prize pool or anything like that as suggested above, add us to the top of the list of those willing to contribute however or whatever we can. Again thanks so much to Javaduck and all the volunteers who went above and beyond on this one. I wish they could be the ones to walk away with a prize.
  22. I did 125 in a 24hr period which is a cache every 11.52 minutes. Some were P&G and some involved short hikes. I remember every single one of them. The best part was spending 24 crazy hours zooming around with my favorite caching partners just to see what we could knock out if we realy wanted to. I could hardly move at the end from exhaustion. Two weekends ago my father-in-law and I did 111 caches in 19 hours which is one every 10.27 minutes. Again, it was a hoot and exhausting.
  23. Counting this past weekend, I have now been stopped by police seven times while caching, all of those at night. (I love night caching) Two of those stops were by different officers within minutes while looking for the same cache. Each time, I have simply explained what I was doing and they wished me luck and were on their way again (sometimes after running my license first). Every single one has been professional and courteous I think they appreciate honesty which is something they don't see a lot in their line of work. We look suspicious, their job is to investigate things that look suspicious.
  24. Is it possible this was a simple mistake and that they were not aware of the park hours until after the fact? As a participant in FTF races, I would point out that when a cache publishes, in my haste, I might just grab the coordinates and head out the door without reading the description for a 2/1.5 cache in a small park. This would be particularly true if I am looking up the coordinates on my Blackberry. Enter the park from an area where the hours are not posted and you might never know you were not supposed to be there at that time. Since FTF is nothing official and is really just bragging rights, I guess they would be FTF. I would just ask them to remove the reference to the time of the find from the log.
  25. FANTASTIC! Thank you for providing that link. This is going to save me a ton of time.
