  1. I had a plain Venture for years and found about 750 caches with it. Bought a Legendcx and used it till the h models were here for a while and bought a Legendhcx. The difference in its ability to get sats is like night and day. Not getting an h model is getting old stuff and I think you will be sorry later.
  2. You can add a serial port to your xp computer if its a desktop (not sure about laptops). I think I paid less than $15 delivered, off ebay.
  3. The adapter cables don't always work, cheepo or expensive. They all pretty much have the same chipset. Another option is to add a serial port to your computer (desktop, not sure of availability for laptop). Easy, inexpensive, and it works. That is what I did after hours of struggle with the cable that still doesn't work. Both can be found on ebay.
  4. Archives are at http://www.gpsinformation.org/allory/garfe...tm#etrexlegendc
  5. EasyGPS (free to download) will do the same job for you. You don't need mapsource.
  6. OK... I finally got it to work. Thanks for the help. It seems so simple once it's done.
  7. Could you please be more specific. When I click on the LOC file, a "save as" box comes up an I guess I'm having trouble knowing what to put in save in file name save as type If I save in desktop and leave the "geocaching" file name it goes to easygps, and that is where I am stuck... can't seem to figure out how to get it into Mapsource Thanks for any help
  8. If the later version of Mapsource opens .LOC files, is there a way to download cache info directly into Mapsource from the geocaching site? Thanks.
  9. When you use a charger to power a gpsr, do you need to take the batteries out ?
  10. Recently got a legend cx and when I go to the satellite page and press menu, 5 options should appear, (according to the manual) one of which is GPS elevation. Mine does not show elevation, and I can't seem to find where the elevation is. Any help would be nice. Thanks in advance.
  11. That link to the used maps link doesn't work for me. Can someone point me in that direction? I recently bought a legend cx to replace my venture, would like to add maps but don't need autoroute. Thanks.
  12. I bought a new computer and had the same problem. Bought an adapter cable and could not get it to work even with lots of help from Garmin. They say that sometimes even the ones they sell don't work, something about chip set incompatabilities. I bought a serial port off ebay for less than $15 delivered, put it in, and it works fine.
  13. I had a 4yo etrex venture with a bunch of problems, sent it in, and they sent me a new one. Ditto on the price advice though.
  14. I had the same problem and finally added a serial port to my pc. I got one off ebay for $12.98 delivered. Easy to install. Wish I had known about it before I bought the adapter and spent hours trying to get it going. Good luck.
  15. I bought an adapter for my new computer and could not get it to work either. Garmin tried to help, but said a lot of them don't work. Tried all the suggested stuff and no go. I just bought and added a serial port ( card that goes in computer) and it works. It is the same one that traildad got. $12.98 delivered. I think this may be a better solution to the problem.
