  1. I need the soles on two pairs of Vasque hiking boots reglued (one suede, one leather). Does anyone know of a good shoe repair shop that handles hiking boots in or near Lexington, KY? -- wcgreen Wendy Chatley Green

I could carpet the local park with caches, all different enough to keep people guessing. It only takes imagination and some craftiness. -- wcgreen Wendy Chatley Green
  4. I used to live in the Austin area. Although I wasn't geocaching then, I did hike, walk the park trails, walk my dog through local neighborhoods, take night classes at UT and ride the bus home, etc. without incident. Here in Lexington, I do pretty much the same (although I'm teaching the evening course, not taking it ) Use some sense--know what's happening around you, who is in the area and how those people are acting. Let someone know where you are and when you plan to be back and don't go where you feel uncomfortable. -- wcgreen Wendy Chatley Green
  5. I entered the coordinates of both caches in LostOutdoors.com's Map Maker. The park is a long-skinny one, more of a greenbelt. Classy Cache is a puzzle cache at the midpoint; Happy Caching 4 is a traditional at one end of the park--looks like it's in a field. It wouldn't bother me if either were my cache. Right now, I have the only caches in a local park. There is a temptation to be proprietary, but it's not my park and there is plenty of room for others (in fact, I'd like a few others. Hunting my own caches is no fun.) -- wcgreen Wendy Chatley Green
  6. And now, wcgreen with the latest in GeoSports. Thank you. In the latest regional action, it's BassonPilot 658, StayFloopy 1004 Rubbertoe 13, umc 20 Dru Morgan 113, Lapaglia 5 and, in local action: The Li'l Bears 33, Paddy Yenar 60. -- wcgreen Wendy Chatley Green

Go with "Ferdinand" and hope your wife doesn't remember her high school history classes. -- wcgreen Wendy Chatley Green

  9. You might also make certain the container used will hold all the software that might show up. Salamander had a "bonus" pack of aoftware left outside its container. When I found it, the labels were so damp inside the original sealed bag that I couldn't tell what was on those floppies. -- wcgreen Wendy Chatley Green

THOSE are OK, apparently. I don't read every post to every forum in Groundspeak. Could you provide a link or maybe a non-useless hint to these caches? -- wcgreen Wendy Chatley Green

I'm assuming from your reply that you've asked "the people of New England" whether they've wanted the caches that YOU'VE placed? I'm a property owner in Kauai, so I guess that makes me one of the "people of Kauai". And I don't mind. I didn't ask the other residents. You did place the caches on your property, right? 16. I agree. It's simple, flexible, and allows people to express exactly what they think about a cache. Think we could also upload photos while we're at it?
  17. Lexington, KY did horses, which were auctioned off. Many now are on display at the companies that bought them. I'm trying to locate and identify them (the project web site is not current) for a series of virtual caches. I can't guarantee that they are permanent, but they are bolted/cemented down. wcgreen

  19. quote:Originally posted by JoeCthulhu:I'm new to Geocaching, and several people I've talked to said that they would be scared to open a cache for fear that it would be booby trapped. Have something like this ever happened? No. Occasionally, some prankster fills a cache with urine, feces, or some other messy stuff, but that is very, very rare. Someone wanting to cause havoc and destruction would not go miles into the woods and wait days/weeks/months when leaving a suitcase unattended in an airport would bring almost immediate success. wcgreen

I guess not since apparently, I _already_ knew the answer. You did say that you knew the answer--don't place a cache that you cannot maintain or for which you can't arrange maintenance. quote:I'll just go with my first assumptions from now on and not bother to ask. Hopefully, other people new to the sport won't bother to ask anything, either. Just go with whatever you might think because it's probably right. You asked a question and you got answers. I'm truly sorry that you don't appreciate the answers that you received. wcgreen

  22. quote:Originally posted by CreagerStone Family:Try reading it again, magellan315. In the original message I stated that I already knew that a cache owner was supposed to look after their cache. It's right there in black and white. So the majority of the responses are actually _verifying_ my original thoughts on the subject. It's the "but" after your statement that made me question you: 'I know cache owners are supposed to look after the cache, but 170 miles away from home is a bit of a jaunt for "maintenance". ' If you know it's true, then you know that the truth of it applies even when it gets in the way of convenience or fun. No "buts" need to be said. wcgreen

  24. quote:Originally posted by CreagerStone Family:Is it OK to place a cache in an area you'll probably never visit again? I know cache owners are supposed to look after the cache, but 170 miles away from home is a bit of a jaunt for "maintenance". What you're really asking is "will unknown people sometime in the future carry a new container, cleaning supplies, a new log book, writing implements, Ziploc Bags, and great trade goods to my cache because I'm not willing to?" The answer to that is "maybe--but not likely." If you must place this cache, then watch its log and archive it should it become water-logged, plundered, go missing, etc. When you can make the 170-mile drive, go and fix the cache, then remove it from the archives. wcgreen
