Just a little information that Garmin shared with me when I contacted them about rolling back the FW on my eTrex 30. I'm glad they are watching the site. This is an issue that needs addressed quickly. Still love my new gps.

We are definitely seeing an issue with the 2.30 in this area. We have

not been able to duplicate a fix using 2.20 as we do not have a GCD file

available for that version.

 

We are expecting a software update in the next 48 hours that we have

tested and found that it fixed this issue. I would wait until tomorrow

and run WebUpdater with the Etrex 30 to see if it updates. If not you

may want to run it the next day.

It's good that Garmin is working on this. I wonder if this sporadic issue? I have a pocket query on my eTrax 30 that is 4.44mb and have updated it a couple of times. It loads a little slow the first time the unit is powered up with the new file. After that is works fine. I have the 2.30 fw on the unit.

Just my personal opinion but I disagree with the article. On most all of the items they listed. In regards to the GPS I'll always need a stand alone unit because I'll never own a smart phone. I refuse to pay the costs montly to have said smart phone as there is no value in it for myself. The article kind of reminded me of the class story you would write in High School about where you would be in 20 years. Fun to write, fun to read. But not even close to the truth.
