  1. That's exactly right! Buried isn't an accurate description though because that implies that they have been interred in the ground which is not the case with the caches that I have found that have been hidden in this manner. In fact, I recently adopted a cache that is a 20 litre bucket that is sunk up to its rim in the ground. It's a TB hotel and I'm about to replace the bucket and re-enable the cache.
  2. What people like you need to understand is that guidelines are not rules. If as I stated, those who are doing both the hiding and finding don't have a problem with caches being buried up to the rim, then no-one else should have a problem with it either. By getting up on your 'high horse' you run the risk of falling off. Be careful, it's a long way down.
  3. There are a number of caches where I primarily cache where the CO has dug a hole and placed a large container in that hole, up to it's rim. We, cachers and reviewers are OK with that. Frankly, it's almost the only time we get large containers.
  4. It seems that an increasing number of cachers seem to think that signing the physical log is now optional. This is from a log on a friends cache posted last weekend. Found it Found it 26/04/2014 After many attempts and dodgy gps readings we finally found it. Didn't have pen so left a leaf :-) tftc Photo Luckily for them, its autumn here so there is no shortage of leaves.....
  5. I've got this on one of mine. I haven't had a chance to go out and read the log. Wow quite a tricky one, couldn't find GZ with the Maths. So read thru some others and there is really only one place where your arm needs to reach in so far. Step by step we found it. This cache is a multi and is located in a sporting complex that covers 76 hectares (187 acres). Apparently he/she/they know this complex like the backs of their hands and so could find my cache without going through the stages of the multi.
  6. Yes, I believe that it is correct that accounts are never deleted. I have seen one local cachers account which although the profile page still exists, his finds and owned caches are no longer shown on his profile page. Its as though all his activity has been removed from public view but the profile still exists. I can't find it now though. If I come across it in the near future, I'll post a link in this thread in case anyone is interested. Cheers, b.
  7. Thanks for that link, Touchstone. If as per the link, the member has requested that their account be disabled, I'm still wondering how they've managed to log online. It's also a mystery as to why they're still looking for caches if they've asked for their account to be disabled.
  8. Hi all, I received a DNF log on one of my caches a couple of days ago. It surprised me because it is an easy cache to find. I thought I would email the cacher to reassure them that it was still in place because it just so happened that I had checked it the previous night. When I access their profile I saw this: Status: Inactive Premium Member (Give a Gift Membership) E-Mail Address: The "send message" feature is disabled because this user is currently inactive. I was unable to email them. My questions are, how does an account become "inactive"? How can someone with an inactive account place any type of log online? I've never seen it before and no-one I've asked and that includes a Facebook group of local cachers has seen it either. I'm not concerned about it, just curious. Thanks for any help. b.
  9. I access google maps from a number of different places e.g. directly from my web browser (Firefox), geocaching.com and GSAK. I reverted to the Classic view at my first opportunity BUT I found I had to tell google to always show me the classic view from ALL the places that I access google maps (as above). Its a bit of a pain, but well worth it in my opinion to get back to usable google maps.
  10. I too would like to see this feature implemented. I've only deleted one log, I'm a new CO, but I emailed the cacher before hand and cited the guideline that states that the physical log has to be signed before the find can be claimed online. His caching partner returned and signed the log, but the other cacher didn't and so after 3 weeks, I deleted his log. Cheers, b.
  11. Hi Jeta73, I live just down the road from you in Cranbourne. Not found since 2013 isn't a long time to go unfound. Any cache that hasn't been found and logged online for 6 months is considered to be 'unloved'. There is a challenge cache that requires geocachers to find a number of 'unloved' caches. Finding such caches has become an obsession for me. The number of DNF logs is a much better indication of whether or not a cache is still present. Also look to see if the Cache Owner is still active. If the CO isn't active, there is more chance that the cache is missing and won't be replaced. If you're on Facebook, there a number of groups of cachers. One such group is comprised of mostly Melbourne geocachers. You're welcome to join in. Cheers, b.
