[The following was just posted to the main CITO thread. I repost it here in case others miss it -- doug] Never been in a CITO before, but I started brainstorming and jotting notes down. Currenty the Work Breakdown Structure of the project looks like this (sorry, I'm a Project Engineer by day...) : (Note: these are just tasks to execute our CITO. Once we get the activities listed, we hopefully assign some responsible people and schedule them) Draft Work Breakdown Structure for Cache In - Trash Out - Sudbury Ontaro 2004 1. Location: To be determined. Currently discussing with city and other groups. 1.1 Find an area that needs clean up. 1.2 prefer parkland, trail area, geocaching friendly 2. Supplies 2.1 Bags for trash, recycling 2.2 Gloves or other protective gear 2.3 Bathrooms for volunteers? 2.4 Food for volunteers? or does everyone Brown bag? 2.5 First Aid? consider cuts, bruises, etc. 2.6 Drinking water 3. Removal 3.1 Once the trash is collected and piled in a central area, determine if the city/waste-company will pick it up for the dump. Consider recyclables. Consider if city will leave a truck for the day. 3.2 Large items - if there are items too big for people to carry. Volunteer with a quad and trailer? 4.0 Announcements / Communication 4.1 Post announcement on geocaching.com 4.2 Written media release for Norlife, SudStar, TheBox, CBC, french media? 5.0 Day Schedule 5.1 Kids activities 5.2 Mini-caches 5.3 Sponsor prizes? Consdier places that sell GPS equipment, plus others that are community focused. 5.4 Contingency plan for bad weather? 5.5 Work Area assignments - how many people to work in each area - consider late arrivals

Considering a CITO on April 17 for Sudbury ontario. Some of us have contacted the city to see if there is a nasty park area they might want volunteers for. Anyone else interested in coming and or helping organise? Thanks, Doug

I brought a CBC radio host out for a cache over a year ago. I should try to do a similar log for the new "realignment" on Hwy69 that bypasses Mactier on the west. Although not in the same "off the road" idea, in 2002 we canoed to find a cache in the French River over a year ago. Pics and tracklog are in my photo gallery. The cache has since been disabled. I *think* I know where the cache really is (due south 1 km), but we'll have to go back to try to find it. Maybe next summer.

I regularly get WAAS, Sat #31 or 35 in/around Sudbury / Manitoulin. Mostly on clear days and it may take around 15 mins to get differentials for most birds. When I was in Calgary I got no WAAS at all.

You are asking a lot ya know. Sudbury (pop 160,000) has 14 locations listed in the phone book. I pass three on my way to work and the drive is only 12 minutes. I'll see what I can get for you. I would like to have documented proof to the rumor that Sudbury has the highest density of Tim's. Or maybe it is per-capita... I'm not sure. Please post the link when you get Rev 1 available. I suggest "TH..." as the waypoint.

Sorry about the buzzing, but its the best I can do. Maybe I will get a better audiofile when Markus@cbc returns from holidays. The cache waypoint is GCC4A. Markus Schwabe from CBC Morning North came along and wanted to do a story. They were doing a bunch of series on uses for GPSr's in Northeastern Ontario.

plan a get together sometime. I was thinking of places in/around Sudbury and thought of either Fielding Memorial Park in Lively, or Moonlight Beach at the east end of lake Ramsey. Whatever the place, there should be room for a group plus a playground area for the kids. Some bush with trails, etc would be good to make a mini-multi-cache for everyone to do. Would probably be a good idea to notify some other orgs like CBC radio, community cable tv, and others to promote geocaching. August weekends are looking busy for us (attend a wedding, plant another cache on Manitoulin, etc), but would be open for more discussion. BTW - doing a cache hunt today with a person from CBC Radio (Sudbury) for a radio story. Will try to post details on airing when I know more.

I think you might be asking for a bit too much. You might try contacting the conservation authority to see if they have paper copies, like brochures. I think the closest you may get is the plywood sign posted at the entrance at the parking lot. :-) This month I was out in Alberta in Kananaskis hiking. We met up with another guy hiking with a GPS. His *JOB* was to hike the trails and map the hiking trail system this summer. So we explained about using software like OziExplorer to download the tracklog from his GPS, etc. I hate to think he might have been plotting things manually on a paper topo-map.

I bought my Garmin Etrex Venture from gpscentral.ca. They were competitivly priced and the shipping from Alberta was less than the Prov.Tax I would have paid in Ontario. hope that helps.

OK, give us more than a day to check the board. I'm going on holidays for two weeks real soon now. Anyway, yes we might be interested. It should be a family-fun thing. I've planted one micro-cache just outside my office (Sudbury microcache #1). It's not a great hike -- in fact you can park within 2m of it. But, it gives people something to do out at lunch. Now, to finally get some more out and about there.....
