  1. Hey Folks. I made the request about an off-topic thread awhile back, and I (accidentally) made another topic about it in this section. I had no idea there was another one. Oops. Again, this is a private forum, and the owner has the critical say in everything, and if they don't want it, that's cool. But I think it would be a neat idea to add an off-topic section. Like Lapaglia, I'm not going to freak out if it isn't added, this is a pretty cool place (from Spring to Fall, of course.) 2. Ah, thanks for the link Herald. (Skims though...) Sigh, yeah, it looks like the idea has been pigeonholed, for the most part, it seems. Oh well, maybe someday. 3. I was just looking in a book on maps, and there have been instances where nonexistant towns were inserted in maps. Two examples were given in an area around Chicago, they were both refrences to the City's basketball team or something. Still kinda interesting. 4. quote: All three of the inky cap species are edible and there is not much chance of mistakeing them, so it is a pretty safe one to eat. The one posted by Ramness570 with his GPS sitting on it, I believe is a death cap or death angel. In the aminita species, very few people which have injested these have lived to tell of it. The second picture of the very first post, by The Alpha Operator, is also in the Aminita species and is a very close relative or a color variation of Aminita muscaria or fly agaric, the red mushroom with white spots that Lewis Carol put pictures of in Alice and Wonderland and was said to have eaten before he wrote it. It is a very hallucegenic mushroom, but causes kidney damage. Well, a couple of things here. That is an older Shaggy Mane, and in that stage it would not be good to eat. Second, the one with the GPS on it, I'm pretty sure that it isn't a deadly Death Cap or a Destroying Angel. Those look different. However, it still may be an AMANITA specieis, and those are not reccomended at all for eating because some (Amanita Phalloids, Aminita Verna, Amanita Verosa) can kill. And that last one is a variant of Fly Agaric, but only the Siberian variety causes hallucinations. These just make you ill, and are generally not fatal though. 5. An ode to my Garmin-3. I remember a few years ago, hell, about six, my dad purchaced the Garmin-III GPS from Eastern Mountain Sports for a whopping $300. In these six years we've been using it, it's proven again and again that it was worth every penny my dad invested in it. If they would only make other things like Garmin makes it's GPS units. Easy to use, reliable, and rugged as all get-out. I can't wait till the next generation of units come out, I've become a Garmin user for life. 6. I've been to a couple of forums that had off-topic sections. These are great places to get to know the people at the forum, shoot the breeze, discuss pertinant topics of the day, etcetera. I think that Geocaching.com should add an off-topic section here just for this purpose. I think it would be immensely popular. AND if they don't do it, I'm going to hold my breath until I turn blue and die! (Alpha takes a glup of air.) ... ... ... ... (Alpha's face turns red.) ... ... GHHHAAA-AAHHHHH... (cough) well... you get what I'm saying. -AO CODENAME: ALPHA OPERATOR daedalus://govlink/secure/majestic/12.12.12/ops/throne/AO MAJESTIC-12: THRONE G6 LEVEL AGENT http://www.forumplanet.com/gamespy
  7. I used my Garmin-III today, I didn't notice any major accuracy problems. CODENAME: ALPHA OPERATOR daedalus://govlink/secure/majestic/12.12.12/ops/throne/AO MAJESTIC-12: THRONE G6 LEVEL AGENT http://www.forumplanet.com/gamespy
  8. Heh, it's kinda neat, I started looking for them when I got a digital camera, they seemed like really neat picture subjects, and that sparked my interest in them. I hope that I find some Morels this spring! ;-) Just make sure you avoid poisionous false morels, they contain the same poisionous chemical that is in rocket fuel! 9. I recently got interested in Mycology, the study of mushrooms and fungi. I remmeber being out on quite a few good walks, and finding various species of fungi. Is anyone else interested in mushrooms they find when they go hiking? Or take a guidebook with them? It's really fun. I'm working on a book myself about mushrooms that grow around Erie, PA.
  10. Wow, I can't beleive this is still on the main page! I haven't been here in awhile. :-P CODENAME: ALPHA OPERATOR daedalus://govlink/secure/majestic/12.12.12/ops/throne/AO MAJESTIC-12: THRONE G6 LEVEL AGENT http://www.planetdeusex.com
  11. Last week when caching in a woodland area (public) in New York, I came across the most feared words in Geocaching: "POOR GPS COVERAGE" I realized that I had wandered off the path, and was not exactly sure how to reach the trail! Well, with a little dead-reckoning I managed to make it back safely. (Fortunately this was a small park- I would have reached a road after wandering less then a mile or so.) So, anyone else ever make a blunder like this? CODENAME: ALPHA OPERATOR daedalus://govlink/secure/majestic/12.12.12/ops/throne/AO MAJESTIC-12: THRONE G6 LEVEL AGENT http://www.planetdeusex.com

  13. Totally worth it. I've had a ton of fun both seeking cahces and planting caches. I'm going to seek another of the greenhenge ranger's caches today down in a deep canyon- it almost is kinda like the deep jungle in that movie about the guy who goes up that river in Vietnam to kill this crazy Colonel guy who's played by Marlon Brando... that kinda isolated, dark environment. I think the movie's called "The Deer Hunter" or something. Err, anyways, it ROCKS! 14. Why did they take R&S off Nickelodeon? I never watched it, but am curious. CODENAME: ALPHA OPERATOR daedalus://govlink/secure/majestic/12.12.12/ops/throne/AO MAJESTIC-12: THRONE G6 LEVEL AGENT http://www.planetdeusex.com
  15. I typically carry two weapons when geocaching. I perfer taking a FN-P90-SD as a primary defensive weapon. It has low recoil, a high cyclic, compact size and ergonomic design, and a 40+ round clip. For a secondary, a silenced HK .40 gets you out of tough spots. If I go anywhere more dangerous then an area that would require that stuff, I'd take a supressed HK-UMP .45 SMG and a .357 Desert Eagle. The Second Amendment: Never turn your back on a Brit! Sure, they have a pleasant country and pronounce "aluminum" funny, but if they had the chance they'd be storming our shores and raising the Union Jack! And before you'd know it we'd be driving on the wrong side of the road, eating "chips" instead of fries, and watching soccer instead of football, and we be shoved around by parilment and watching cricket. IS THAT A FUTURE YOU ARE WILLING TO RISK HAVING? WATCHING CRICKET??? And don't forget the Canadians, they're almost like half-British... {serious} I sometimes carry a pocketknife. When I get older I'm thinking of getting a 9mm, maybe a Glock. (I think my life is worth at least $500.) {/serious} CODENAME: ALPHA OPERATOR daedalus://govlink/secure/majestic/12.12.12/ops/throne/AO MAJESTIC-12: THRONE G6 LEVEL AGENT http://www.planetdeusex.com
  16. Well, I actually got the mixed response I sort-of expected. Like I said before, I think that it is acceptable as long as it doesn't dominate the cache. 17. Hey there, this is Alpha. I have quite a few great audio taped sermons by a few really good preachers (Seventh-Day Adventist, Protestant Christian) like Doug Batchelor, Clifford Goldstein, etcetera. They are on quite a few topics, one that helped me quite a lot was about anger, and another was about prayer. I'm going to rip many others (1 hour long, approx) into WMA and RA format, and toast them onto compact (200mb, 8cm) CDs. I thought about putting one or two of these in my cache for people who might like them. Anyhoo, now, I'm not talking about a religious cache, I've heard of these before, caches stuffed with religious materials, etcetera. Now I'm not talking about doing that. I'm just curious if someone would not like to find a CD or two in a cache like that. 18. Oh yeah, and (Majicman, I think) proposed a coup'de'tat to take over the South America board and use it as off-topic. However, due to the follwing risks: 1. Jeremy would be p****d. 2. The South American folks would be p****d (and I saw movies about them, and a lot of them seem to have AK-47s or similar weapons) 3. Either may result in users getting their accounts terminated. 4. I told Jeremy we wouldn't do it. Anyhoo... CODENAME: ALPHA OPERATOR daedalus://govlink/secure/majestic/12.12.12/ops/throne/AO MAJESTIC-12: THRONE G6 LEVEL AGENT http://www.planetdeusex.com
