  1. Nice pic! Man... I can't wait for spring. I'd love to search for mushrooms in the Pacific coast area, they have a lot of neat stuff, including the dangerous amanita phalloids and amanita virosa.
  2. That's quite a big excavator, but there are much bigger ones out there! The biggest is the Wheel Excavator in a German mine, that thing is one of the biggest moveable objects on the planet. (I think the Crawler shuttle transporter is the largest.)
  3. Perhalps the Australian variety... Again, "deadly poisionous" means, from what I've seen, a mushroom that when eated has a high potential to cause death. Still, again, earthballs are bad. Giant Puffballs (the ones bigger then a softball, sometimes as big as a basketball) are OK. Now they wouldn't let you take those back to the US, would they? I think customs would have a fit about them being assault rifles... but man, I heard those Kalishnikovs are pretty reliable. 7. Wow, and I thought I was the only antenna-head! quote:Originally posted by SpongeRob:I guess in some rainy weather it can be also be used to ground the brain stem from a lightning strike. Just kidding Actually, that's not a terrible idea! I'm thinking of covering the top of the helmet, the entire area, with aluminium or stainless steel. Then have to LARGE GAGUE wires running down from the steel "cap" down to the feet, where it connects with two stainles steel, cleated soles. It might just be enough to divert the current to the ground, bypassing the human being... Re: Canuk's Picture ROFL
  8. It would be cool if the main GPS manufacturers (Garmin, Loran, Magellan, etc...) would get together and sponsor something like this. Maybe the Discovery channel could air it too, that would be so cool. 9. quote: Morel (sic) of the story, all puffballs aren't safe. Some stuff, like earthballs (like a puffball but grey and powdery on the inside) aren't good. The good thing is, though, that to my knowledge no puffballs are dangerously poisionous. 10. I haven't seen a general "cache form" out there, but that's a really good idea! I think the optimal size would be 8.5" by 3", like a brochure. It could be laminated too. Maybe smaller ones could be made for miniature caches, but the brochure-sized one would work well for standard ammo-box Caches. 11. Yeah, this was an interesting place to put a remote antenna. (You can just make out the rectangular shape, that's the antenna. It's kinda dark so it's hard to see.) I was exploring a gorge area in Erie County, PA, and I decided to take a hands-free approach. So I attached, using plastic quick-ties, the Garmin-III antenna to my bicycle helmet. I then ran the extension cable from the antenna to the Garmin, which is sitting inside the carrying pouch on my belt. A few advantages of this system: 1. Better GPS coverage- no signals blocked by the body and antenna is higher. 2. Hands-free operation (logging and tracking location) 3. Additional head protection in rocky areas and areas where one may potentially fall down or slip But the disadvantages: 1. Looks kinda dorky (except it matches my urban camo shorts) 2. Cord can get in the way, espicially when using a backpack. I also thought about making an "extender" that would attach to my large backpack, something that would be six or so feet high with an antenna on the top. 12. I haven't been here in awhile, but... Renegade and Leprechaun are probably my favorites. Renegade is cool, and Leprechaun... well heck, I've always loved the sugary goodness of Lucky Charms. I need a different avatar... just little old me with an ammo can... 15. quote:Originally posted by 3fros:Great idea. I need one of those for my car so that everyone driving near me can't get a signal. Maybe then the'll hang up and drive. There's a guy here at Penn State I know. He had a double-locked metal case he had with him one day. He opened it up, and showed me over $5,000 worth of electronics equipment! One WAS a Cell-Phone jammer! He demonstrated it by turning it on, it totally jammed my Cell phone, I couldn't make an outgoing call! I would never use one of those in a public place, though, even if the people were really annoying. It could be an important call you're f-ing with there, you know. (Still, it is tempting. There are those ditzy girls who jabber for mintues at a time into their phones. Plus people who SCREAM into the phones.) Oh yeah, and I think that Jamming cell phones or GPS signals is very illegal. 16. Now that is cool... $99... plus a DVD-ROM version... hmm. A little pricey... but still, lots of neat stuff there. That would be awesome to have the kind of capability on a GPS unit. Maybe we should have specific Geocaching colors, too, like wearing a certain color or sports team stuff. Plus we could "tag" our territories with some spray-painted symbols and stuff. And if someone messed with us, they'd get beat down! With caches like the "Muthanna Sarin Cache" and "Falljuah Hidden Nuclear Hideaway." I could see the log entry now: "Left AA-battery pack, took 35 grams Uranium." Fun! 19. I considered, in a different area, using song titles for new caches as well. Heh, I like the Indiana Jones themed caches, that's cool. Plus, Lucky using "Elves" instead of Leprecha... Leprach... Leperac... Leprecha... well... you know. 20. I remember hearing on the news awhile ago that the Iraquis were employing devices to jam GPS signals. (The GPS is now used for both guiding forces and JDAM bombs.) They said they were aquired from the Russians. Did anyone hear about this, or know how these work? I'm thinking that what they might do is simple broadcast on the ground a signal that is the same as that generated by the GPS satellites, which would really screw up GPS units within their broadcasting range. (Some cell phone jammers do a similar thing, making it look like there is a tower nearby, and the cell phone focuses on that, and it doesn't respond.) 22. These comments are all regaurding "event caches," right? I'd say planning and announcing it well ahead, it sounds like common sence, but sometimes it's the obvious that people overlook. Central location, too. I'm thinking about having a simple event cache sometime after school is over and the weather is better. 23. Since I started Geocaching, I used a greek letter theme: Alpha (first Cache) Beta Gamma Delta Lambda So, does anyone else use a certain theme for the names of their caches, or do you just name willy-nilly?
  24. ADDED: Anyone with administrative or... moderative powers, you probably can go ahead and close this thread because of the redundancy. :-P CODENAME: ALPHA OPERATOR daedalus://govlink/secure/majestic/12.12.12/ops/throne/AO MAJESTIC-12: THRONE G6 LEVEL AGENT http://www.forumplanet.com/gamespy
