  1. I have a Magellan Map 330, in the map send software on the tool bar at the top there is a compass icon you use to measure distances. At the bottom of the page is a milage marker that tells you a certain distance equals so many miles. If you set two waypoints from east to west and then use the compass icon to measure the distance the milage marker is right on, but if you set two waypoints from north to south the marker is way off, why would this be?
  2. I really don't see what the big deal is with the items in this cache. Just look at this poll it suggest that no one really cares whats in the cache its the distance and location. This tells me that people are really just interested in finding the cache. For the most part there is nothing in a cache that I really want anyway so what do I care whats in it. There have been suggestions here about people with their own geo cards or coins, this is nice but why would I want to collect a card with some other geocachers info and picture on it, it's useless to me! Also people here have said they trade out the religous material just to get it out of the cache, what are you people thinking, just because you don't want it doesn't mean someone else wouldn't. If I found the cache I would appreciate the persons effort.
  3. From what I've been able to tell from being here the short time that I have there are rules but only some are enforced. There are new rules dictating that caches can't be placed in national parks but there still there. It's seems that rules here are just a joke because everyone is told it's just a game and you can decide whats right for you.
  4. quote: ___________________ No Caches in Parks? ___________________ I first saw it HERE after you go to this page click on the link that Jeremy provides and that takes you to the new rules for placing caches. After your done with that go HERE were I made my first post and thats were the topic on parks start. Most of the people were saying that virtual caches were ok in national parks but not the traditional cache. If you search for caches you will see alot of them are in National Parks and there not virtual. Just curious why these aren't archived. I don't think they should be personally but then again if you enforce one rule you should enforce the rest. [This message was edited by mdmax371 on June 25, 2002 at 04:58 PM.]
  5. I use WAAS all the time wouldn't leave home without it!
  6. Quote: _________________________________________________ Cache In Trash Out Religious tracts and other ads are the same as brochures for a travel resort. Remove the tracts and any other items. _________________________________________________ Why would you remove the tracts and any other items found in this cache? I agree with the majority here, just finding the cache is reward enough your not really going to get anything you can't buy yourself at the local dollar store. There are rules set here for the types of caches you can hide, were you can hide caches, and what you can put in caches along with the travel bug rules that people are breaking all the time. For instance you can't hide caches in parks, well almost all the caches I've found have been in parks. I don't see anyone enforcing these! The people that put it there are concerned about you, the advice given above was given in my opinion without much thought, let the cache be!

Jwest420 I have two travel bugs and one cache so far, I am not really interested in the miles they log. I am more interested in seeing what cache they are in, but to some people the mileage thing is important. I have a travel bug called Chuck the Fire Truck, his goal is to see the Ground Zero. I guess I could mail him to New York to insure he completes his goal and to get him a little closer to Ground Zero, but I would lose out on all the fun he had getting there from cache to cache. I am getting ready to release a new travel bug that will be a figurine of Count Dracula and I saw there is a cache were his castle is, I thought it would be neat for him to take the tour of the castle and get some pictures. It would be easy for me to mail him there but I to think that takes away from the experience of watching the travels of the bug. I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes, it's their bug so to each his own. Check the link below. mailing travel bugs [This message was edited by mdmax371 on June 15, 2002 at 01:25 AM.]

  9. Not all the caches in National Parks are virtual caches, there are alot that are the normal caches. I cache with my ten year old daughter and she enjoys finding the normal caches, it would be disappointing to see all these caches banned. From what I've seen most of the normal caches are hidden in some type of park, if we no longer could hide them in parks or private lands were would you hide them?
  10. I'm curious about the national park thing, it seems to me that alot of caches are in the parks and one of the reasons I look for caches is to get a chance to visit these parks. If caches could no longer be hidden there I'm not sure I would keep looking.

I edited a post 4 times, is there anyway to clear the time of edit it places on the page?
  13. Hey thanks alot for the help, the ribbon thing is sort of what "m planning to do. I thought I would place two cards on the bug with the two goals of going and coming back, then once the last person took it to ground zero then they could remove the the tag with that goal on it. Thanks again!
  14. Hey thanks alot for the help I will try it out, thanks again.
  15. In easy gps I would like to download say 10 cache pages and have them all in the window at the same time so that when I'm done editing them I can load them to my gps. When I do it now it replaces the cache at the top and puts the previous one on a tab at the bottom. Then I have to load them one at a time is there a better way to do this, I have looked at the manual several times, maybe I'm just not getting it!
  16. I am going to release a fireman travel bug and it's destination is ground zero and back home. My question is, if it ever reaches ground zero how would people know it's completed it's mission and is on it's return trip home? Would I do this on the travel bug page or what? I mean once someone places it in a cache on the way back from zero how will I let the next person to get it know it's on it's way home and prevent them from returning it to zero again? Does this make sense?
  17. Hey thanks alot, I didn't think it mattered its just if I keep one of the tags I would rather have the one that doesn't say "copy" on it. Just my weird quirk!

  19. Is there any reason that with my hitch hiker that I can't send out the copy tag instead of the other one.

  21. I'm new to this and have placed only one cache, I'm getting ready to place my second cache and didn't want to put in the usual contents. In my first cache it had the usual log book, camera, batteries and toys. In the next one I will still put the log book and camera but would like to make the contents a little more interesting then the usual, any suggestions would be appreciated.
  22. Thanks alot I made some tags for my bug and hope that will help.
