  1. I am not in this mission but I do know that Amaras coin was sent out from far away and a little too late for the holidays so it should be there anyday soon now. Has a long way to travel in the slow holidaymail. Happy New Year! grodan Karin Well, Amara's mission has never arrived I appreciate grodan Karin's post to keep us informed but the mission person has never been in touch (an email would have been nice - or a post). Just a bit sad someone else had to say it was on its way. The package has never been received. And, I might add I have never had a problem with International mail before. I have no idea when the package was mailed. I sent package mail to Sweden myself for the holiday and the post was there within a month. It has been a month past Christmas now. Glad Amara is little enough to not realize there is a package she has not received. To the mission sender - do not bother to mail another - but please contact me with the details of what you sent, the type of post (packaging and any detail you may know off a customs slip) so I may be in touch with the US Postal Service and customs (?) about the missing package. Thank you.

Just posting so the mission host knows the status.
  5. Actually I don't think they are doing anything with the back of the feathers, we never discussed it. It would be nice if they were something other than flat metal - maybe just an element/meaning/etc.
  6. I am sure any of the feathers done larger would be able to be a geocoin...with my permission and Cache Addict doing the work being as they will hold this design copyright. Trackable feather coins would be very nice!
  7. Aw - I want a thumbs up smilie or Signal!
  8. An interesting thread which I hadn't read until this evening. kayakerinme introduced me to coins in 2006 and I have been hooked ever since. Perhaps because I was raised in a "coin" (numismatic) family. In fact, my Dad had tokens minted for his employer in the 60s. I believe what we are seeing today is a textbook example of Economics. Supply, demand and available disposable income. Mix this well with auctions (the Eplace), regular offerings of the goods here and other influences..........any Business major in college could use this as a targeted subject for one incredible research paper. When I started buying coins, my income was different, and if I liked it - I bought one in every metal/color/etc. As life moved on, things changed and I became more selective. All the while - I only activated some, not all and held many back intended for trades, gifts or resale. Of the coins I purchased - sold many (and yes, at auction - thank you to all my purchasers!) - traded many (thanks to all who traded and I have many loved and valued gift coins which will never be sold) - and gifted many (both to individuals, missions, and to groups for their fund raising). And, I did mint one coin with a friend for an event. These coins were all either sold (for less than $1.50 over our cost at the event and shortly after and later a very few auctioned), gifted/given away or traded. I do not think there is a disinterest in Geocoins..........rather I think you are seeing the natural paradigm of economics as it relates to geocoins and their balance in our economy. Certainly folks reaction/response to using auctions, attitudes of people both on these threads/in the venue caching - geocaching.com (what happens to coins out in the wild, etc. - I for one have learned - they are like so many other things - they survive or they don't - it's not a life), and the personal situations of buyers/owners/collectors all effect whether you are in or out of geocoins in today's market or will be in the future. I surely know - what might be find today - in the blink of an eye - may not be the same tomorrow (and nearly everyone on this thread can relate I am sure). The future? Who knows - but I am sure my Granddaughter will value the coins I own (activated or not). What will be their value in the future - who knows? Indian Head Pennies used to be worth one cent - today they sell for $10 and more (if they are in good condition) - but to the bank - they are only worth one cent. But then again - who know what our entire economy will be worth.......further more - for a nicely designed coin which you like.............I would still buy one. Geocoins to me are artful pieces and I just like them. They don't eat or drink a lot............... As an artist, producer, marketer or company dealing in new designs and geocoins - what to do.........guess, when I have a great idea I will just go with my heart, spirit and what I economically can afford. Thanks for the thread Tsun!

  14. We can only control what we personally do with trackables in our possession. You are doing the right thing. I, personally, would wait to hear from the coin owners before sending them back on their way. And as a cache owner, you can only go look at the logs where coins have gone missing and try to sort through the paper and then on-line logs to try and create a history. Then, if you are inclined, perhaps email folks who may have seen a trackable. Lastly, as a trackable owner - you, too, have the ability to try and track and/or contact folks who may have been in touch with or seen your trackable. Sometimes it helps to know one cacher did or did not see it in the cache to pin point a date something may have gone MIA. Woo hoo on this recovery. Thanks, too, for sharing the story.
  15. DrNeal's right off the coin is great. Why change what already works and is Nicely done on the part of the coin and an icon which comes right off it. How could you loose?

  21. Ralph, my husband, always asks me in the fall what I want for Christmas. In 2005, I told him a GPSr. He said, of course, "What's that?" So I explained to him I had found the information about Geocaching on line and I needed a GPSr to try it ~ and it sounded like fun. Little did I know he would pursue the suggestion. He found mutual friends who were familiar with the technology from the Coast Guard, but they knew nothing of the sport. They took him to a store which sold the unit and of course the clerk talked him into purchasing a very expensive model for the time. The unit and a ton of extras were purchased. On Christmas morning 2005, I opened a brand new Garmin Map76C unit. My son-in-law was a bit familiar with GPSrs so he turned it on and sort of set it up. I wasn't able to master things to find my first cache until January of 2006. This was, however, a lasting memory. This gift has given back to me in more ways then I could ever imagine. From getting me off the couch, making me move to get more healthy, to learning more about my state and gaining International friends, this present has continued to remind me how large the World really is - yet, how small. It has given me a whole new circle of friends. And it sustained me with a sport which I used to de-stress, as an outlet, through my husband's cancer diagnosis (May 2006), surgery, recouperation and chemo. Every day I pick up that GPSr (battered and as scratched as it may be), I remember the Christmas morning I opened the package and my amazement he worked hard to find me that unit. It is also neat the new friendships Ralph and I share because of this present. Today, Ralph is doing pretty good. Blood work is good and he feels good. He can't hike the trails with me - but he does ride in the car. He smiles a lot whenever he has a chance to tell folks about geocaching. If economic times were better my wish this year would have been for a new unit - instead - the old Garmin still gets me there and a gas card seems more appropriate. DrNeal - thanks for the cointest and time to reflect. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all!
