  1. Yeah, I, too, thought there were limits and dumped stuff out of my cart. I did by actual error end up wiht some extra and missed some of what I wanted. Overall, I would say this went better than in the past and there is great hope for the future of "Tsun fired snd fueled sales". Something is going right in the mix of improving the website and shopping cart. And then - there is Geocoinfest........thanks Tsun!
  2. Don't know where you got your info but there are only going to be 250 LE golds for sale. The amount of silvers will be determined by the amount of preorders. I believe that is a typo on the ordering page. Here is a direct quote from the email I got from Attroll the owner of the GCM.org site - "There is a limited edition of this coin available as well. For $2.00 more (to be used as a fundraiser for the site), this coin is the same die and artwork, but the state is in a polished gold instead of silver. These are limited to 50 coins, and only 1 per person, so get yours soon!" Wonder who is correct?
  3. PM sent with information. Thank you for this fun cointest and I did learn a lot. Portugal was a special country to me anyway, which I explained in my PM, but, I learned a lot more. This coin will become a very special part of my collection. Again, my sincere thanks. Nice efforts on the part of everyone who posted!

  7. Thanks for the cointest. I took a bit of a different approach and the other entries are wonderful! I decided to compare flags over the changes during these historic events. It was interesting to learn the significance of the blue and the dots...........and then look at your coin. Also, to learn more about Portugal. Here is my entry: 1143 – Portugal has been an independent Kingdom since this date. Afonso Herigues declared Portugal independent from the Spanish Kingdom of Castile & Leon and took the title of Afonso I. It is interesting looking at the flag of the time and reading a discussion about the “silver nails in the five district areas”. I wondered why there were dots on the coin – perhaps to represent the nails. My chosen photo will be of the flag from this date courtesy of António Martins. 1385 – The fate of Portugal was decided at the Battle of Aljubarrota, 8/14/1385. The country retained its independence and the House of Avis established itself as the Portugal’s dynasty. John 1 of Portugal defeated John 1 of Castile (Spain) in this battle. My chosen photo is a flag from 1385 – 1481 taken from Wikimedia. 1139 – Portugal became a kingdom, 7/26/1139, when Afonso I was proclaimed King. This was immediately after the Battle of Ourique. The monarchy was overthrown in 1910. My chosen photo is a flag of the era – taken from Wikipedia. Again, the dots play a significant role along with the blue. 1640 – The Portuguese Restoration War, as it is called, is the war between Portugal and Spain that began with the Portuguese revolution of 1640. This revolution ended the 60 year duel monarchy in Portugal and Spain under the Spanish Hasburgs. It all began when Philip II of Portugal (known as Philip III in Spain) died and was succeeded by Philip III (known as Philip IV in Spain). As leadership and conditions changed there was a coup executed on 12/1/1640. This was 60 years after the crowning of the 1st dual monarch Philip I. The support of the people was evident. Immediately after assuming the Portuguese throne, João IV took several steps to strengthen his position. On 12/11/1640, a 'Council of War' was created to organize all of the operations. The first few major engagements proved that Portuguese could not easily be returned to submission to Spain. The county was at war or conflict for many years thereafter. It ended with the Treaty of Lisbon in 1668. My final photo will be the Flag of the Portuguese Republic. Another Flag from Wickipedia. You will see the evolution of this flag and hopefully follow my approach to highlight these dates in history. Thank you for helping me to learn more about your County. Why couldn't I have enjoyed learning history as much when I was in school? This would be a great exercise for any home schoolers! Edited for spelling - sorry!
  8. So sorry to hear. My thoughts and prayers will be with family, friends and all who are afflicted by this horrid disease.

Woo Hoo Matalida is home - how very nice!
  13. Mine are also in an unpublished cache. I need to ask our local publisher if I should archive it. I have heard you should and then that is it ok - as long as it isn't published.
  14. Thank you for the heads up - I will be looking.
  15. And anyone who was a TL member - sponsoring one of these events and asking used to get a TL Jeep coin "free" to draw off or give away at their event. I agree TSun - funny where and what folks will pay for coins...........and if folks doing them charged was was a "real" mark upi in retail who knows what would happen. Most folks don't know what Tread Lightly stands for, have never visited their website nor done an event........just a usual. Not problem. My prediction - the TL jeeps will be collectible! LOL
  16. Bless you and thank you for your service! Although it may not have been voluntary - you all are and were the best!
  17. Ah, 1969 a pivotal year in my life. I became engaged in April and graduated from college in May. In June, I took my state exam to become a Registered Professional Nurse. Back then the exam was 2 1/2 full days of testing - filling in little black circles to answer the questions in a book. You did not get the results for about 2 1/2 months and they were mailed to you. Once the envelope came, you knew because it either said RN after your name or it did not. My life after school had begun. I was hired as a Graduate Nurse in May. Working for what was then Eastern Maine General Hospital (now Eastern Maine Medical Center). The reality of what a nurse did really hit home as I went through orientation. Charge nurse on a floor meant you were directing and controling the destiny of the lives on your floor in a way. I began work in July - right after the 4th and taking boards. It was then, although I had not chosen to enlist in the military, I had an appreciation for their responsiblity. At 20 years old, it was a bit scary to think how your actions, or lack thereof, were so pivotal to a person's destiny. Obviously, my employer believed in my ability or I would not have been hired. In September, I received my envelope with the coveted RN after my name. During that summer, I had no time to think about Woodstock. Although, I did have several classmates who went and a few friends from high school who went, too. August that year was a blurr and very busy - with transitioning into the new job, setting up a new apartment, and preparing for my wedding in November. I wasn't much into the music scene or really any scene during my years after high school. I was busy with studying, hanging out with friends at the lake in the summer or working. Oh, I did enjoy going to a local night spot with a local band or out for a drink after work and to dance. My favorite spot was the "Sand Pit" in Bar Harbor ME where a local band, "The Jesters", played on a regular basis. The floor to dance on was beach sand. One of my neighbors was in the band and went on to play with several bands out of Nashville. He played with and composed for the Marty Robbins band for the last 4 years of Marty's life. He actually now owns a studio in California. This fellow was my neighborhood bud and co-high school band member. I loved following his career after college. My father retired in 1969 after working 40 years for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad. He was looking forward to retirement and spending the summer at our camp with my Mom. I, his only child, had graduated from college - he could now retire. He and Mom were happy I was establishing a life of my own. I think, they too, were also thankful I had not enlisted. Recruiting was hot and heavy with the nurses in college during the '68-'69 year. I probably would have enlisted had it not been for a boyfriend/fiance'. Having lost my first "real" boyfriend in the Viet Nam War in 1965, I was of course concerned about the War. Two of my nursing instructors in college were military veterans and real tough professors - but I am all the better for having them. My clinical in psychiatric nursing was a full summer working at the Veteran's Center here in Maine. From the Nam war to WW1 - the veterans spaned all eras. Our clinical instructor was a Veteran, too. This lent a different slant on that experience. Several of my classmates enlisted and became officers. Movies and other things.........well, I wasn't a movie person - although there were still a couple of real theatres operating in our town back then. Instead of movies, I would go out driving, out to a local dance or down to my parents camp on the lake to just hang out or float in the boat. Well, I didn't make Woodstock. But, I did enjoy the summer of 1969. My personal life as an adult began to emerge that summer, as I was no longer living with my folks and had full time employment and a paycheck. Thanks for the memories and the cointest!

  19. Well, thanks from me for doing it.......I could at least color it in - even if I couldn't make my image bigger. I am about 10 years short of the learning curve on some of this computer stuff. But I love being able to at least dabble in it.
  20. Trying to contact DrNeal about a trackable trade and have gotten no answer to multiple attempts. DrNeal are you out there????
