  1. After reading all the anti-discussions on locationless caches, I think it is time we find a new home for those of us who enjoy them. Granted they may not be traditional type caches, but they are still an activity many people would enjoy and do not wish to be restricted on. Therefore I propose one of two solutions. Would any of the other Geocaching sites be interested in supporting them? If not, I think we should start a sight of our own for these kind of caches so that the "traditional" folks do not need to be bothered with them, yet we can still enjoy them. What does everyone else think? Maybe "LocationlessCaches.com"? I will start my creative juices going. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
  2. DogMa's father spends a lot of time alone at a lake in northern Wisconsin where he owns a lot of wooded acreage. Cell phones are poor reception indeed. He recently got a GPS for mapping out some of his area. But he was concerned with safety being well into his 70s and all alone up there. A friend of his set him up with what he calls his "dog collar" to track him. It is a type of device used to fasten to bears and other wild animals to track them. When he is up there in the woods he carries it with him at all times. A friend up there who helps to keep an eye out for him knows to use the proper equipment to locate him should he not check in at the proper intervals. Hopefully it will never need to be used, but it gives us a lot more piece of mind way down here to know if something happens, maybe he stands a better chance of getting help in time. 3. How about using a bird house as a cache? It could be hung in a tree on a low branch. This would probably be more useful for an urban cache. And of course you would have to cover the "door" so it did not end up occupied. And one wall could be a false wall that opens up to display the contents. 4. Maybe there should be a separate category for the "commercial" classified caches. By the sounds of things there have already been a number of them that exist and people have been able to enjoy. And I think we are all grown up enough to realize if you don't want to buy something, then don't (unless of course it is more geo-caching gear!). 5. I use the following site http://geocode.com/eagle.html It says it tracks and allows free use of so many reports. But I have never reached a point where it asked me to register yet! M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
  6. One of my clients runs a reindeer ranch with a Christmas tree farm. During the summer they offer a corn maze. This years will be their biggest ever. I believe they said six acres. The design they chose is layed out using a gps to mark the design on a freshly planted field so they know where to cut to make the paths. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W

  8. Can you post a NOTE instead of a FIND to the cache log and then upload the photos to the NOTE just like photos in a FIND report? Then you would have the thumbnails all on one page. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
  9. As Generation X-ers we have the means to enjoy this kind of hobby more than a younger person would. We quibble over a couple hundred dollars on a GPS "toy" while the college age try to make dinner with $1.69 they find in the couch cushions! 10. I don't think $30 a year is bad at all when you consider all the fun we get to have due to the hardwork out into the web site. And as far as support, I think it is OUR support that is needed to show appreciation for all their hard work. After all, how many of us have the organizational skills to keep track of all this information as well as Jeremy has? M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W

  12. I have no qualms paying the fees for the conference. I think it would be a lot of fun. But the travel costs in time and money to get there will be what stops me, and I am sure many others. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
  13. Make sure you check the actual cache page after uploading the second image. The screen that acknowledges the upload only shows the other photos you have uploaded and NOT the current one. But if you look at the cache page itself, they are usually all there. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W

  15. Unfortunately the Visor I have I have had for a few years so it is still Palm OS 3.1 I do enjoy the beaming ability and will have to keep my eyes out for anyone else I know I can get hooked on this so they can help me! hehehehe I guess I will just have to perfect my speed and accuracy in adding the info! hehehehe M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
  16. I am using the Magellan Companion with a handspring Visor. I have been trying to find a way to import multiple waypoints without having to enter them manually. But so far no luck. Does anyone know if there is a way to get a whole list of waypoints into the Magellan Companion? M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
  17. I have a Handspring Visor with a Magellan Companion attached to it and I have enjoyed it a lot. I never owned a single purpose GPSr to compare with, but I like having the added computing ability of the PDA for notes, logging info, etc. And the features of the GPS software have not hindered my hunting yet. As we get in shape for more difficult hunts I will be curious to see how it performs. But a recent hunt showed my readings to be exact with the readings of the cache I was hunting.

  19. I was visiting my step mom in Indianapolis for Mother's Day weekend this year and I think we managed to get thehooked as well. We started talking about our geo-caching adventures so far. They they pulled out their equipment. And before you know it we were all hopping in the car and off we went for a day of hunting! And to think all we had originally given her for mother's day was a card and a book of hugs! hehehehe
  20. It sounds like you made a NOTE selection as opposed to a FIND selection under the WHAT TYPE OF LOG. All you need to do is to go to your listing and select EDIT and make the proper choice.
  21. I like the idea of keeping all kinds of caches in one place with the ability to search for the type you like. But in an area where there are not too many caches available or for people who can;t hike that much, having a variety of types is smart. And I am sure if this place decides not to handle virtual or locationless caches there will be someone willing to do it. Including me.
  22. Have you tried LostOutdoors.com? They have a great set of aerial photos. You enter the coordinates of any place you want to see and it draws up a pretty detailed shot. I was able to get a shot of your neighborhood but was not able to tell where the BB house was. I am still getting used to looking at those darned things.
  23. I have checked the box as well and always seem to have to login twice before it knows I am here. I have also noticed that sometimes it will forget I am still here and reset all the groups to no new messages long before I have read them all. Then I have to go in to each one and manually figur out which ones I haven't read yet.

  25. Is there a setting or a way to have any new post be sent to your email? I know you can tag a discussion, but I was wondering if there was any way to have ANY new post sent. So often when I return to check messages it seems the same ones I have already read are still marked as new. It takes a lot of time to find the actual new posts. I guess I am too used to having subscribed to so many email discussion lists.
