[RIP Steve Love; Aka Sven.]

Apologies for the very delayed addition to this thread. I like many here came to find geocaching via Steve's YouTube videos, and felt it important to say a few words. It was only yesterday I thought I would dig deeper to try and find out why there hadn't been any videos in quite a while. When I learnt what had happened I was devastated. As many have said, I never had the pleasure of meeting Steve, but having watched so many of his videos he felt like a friend.

 

If there are family and close friends still reading this thread, you probably don't need me to tell you that Steve touched the lives of so many in a hugely positive way, many of which like myself he probably didn't even realise.

 

Thank you Steve for giving me so much through your own passion.

Excellent, thank you all very much. Very very helpful.

 

Basically my gps was using "minutes and Seconds" which i was trying to input as decimal minutes. I have now used a converter to translate my readings into decimal minutes.

 

I have inputed those back onto google maps for example and the location is now spot on.

Thanks Gents. I have WGS84 settings. In fact i copy and pasted the co-ords to a clipboard on my gps and underneath the co-ords it stated WGS84. How to i beta test?

Howdy all. (forgive me if this is in the wrong section, looked in others and also on FAQ to no avail).After enjoying many local caches we are now about to place our own first cache. We have everything set up ready, the perfect hiding place and location, permissions required etc. I spent a while today getting a very good gps ready, i took about 10 and average them out (though there was not a great deal of difference between them as its not tree covered and there was a lot of blue sky!.

 

My problem is when i went to check the co-ords on the online form they were about 1/5 mile out on the map!....I suqsequently went on to Google earth and they were out, this time about 1 mile!. Whats going on?

 

I know the gps i have works pretty well as its guided me within a few metres to a lot of local caches. As i say the sun was shining with little tree issue. I entered the co-ords i had and it took me to the exact spot,so should i be worrying?, or just go for it?

[geocaching with a Blackberry]

I use a blackberry, Cachesense which i think was a one off payment of $9.99. Works perfectly with my BB and has numerous features including a compass etc.

Is this the TB you found.... BLUE FIRE FLYER?

 

If so, take note that the cacher(s) are very experienced and have also moved a lot of Travel Bugs.

It is possible that they simply forgot to log it in.

 

If you have emailed them, give them time to find the email (sometimes it is not immediate). I am sure that they would like to properly log it. After a week or longer, and no response, another email wouldn't hurt. Beyond that time, I would simply log a "grab", log it through the cache with a "visit" log, then move it on as normal.

 

There is no great hurry, as you can always log later -- using the correct date of the retrieval. The only drawback is that you end up holding it longer than normal. At least while it is in the hands of a conscientious cacher (you), it is safe and not lost.

Its safetly in my posession so come another week or so without any communication i will do as you have suggested and grab-dip-visit-remove and relocate accordingly.

Thanks for the advice. I have contacted the user whom it is still logged with, interestingly they did log a visit at the cache i found it in but no mention of the TB. i will await their reply for a dew days, if nothing i will continue with your advice.

Hi All

 

Relative newbie to caching so bear with me. I have recently found and grabbed a travel bug (today actually), upon attempting to log the "Grab", it seems that it has not been logged as "dropped". I.e it states it is still in the hands of A N Other. My options are to a) discover it, or b ) grab it from the hands of A N Other. As i am keen to move the TB on to another cache tomorrow how do i go about doing this correctly?
