  1. This made me have a look at Iraq's neighbour Iran. Six caches but only one of them has been found and that was only on one occasion and..... it was found accidently by a muggle!
  2. Whilst I really should have been doing something more constructive I had a little look at the "countries" search section. These lists aren't inclusive just one's that I found. Countries with no caches Turkmenistan Falkland Islands (quite surprised by that) Moldova (the only cacheless country in Europe I have found, it did have one but it kept getting muggled) North Korea (not suprising really, owning a gps probably earns you a trip to the gulag) Western Sahara Countries with just one cache Belraus (found only once) Georgia (no one has found it yet!) Eritrea (also yet to be found) Sierra Leone (a virtual which seems to be quite busy) Also special mention to this cache in Albania. Its not the only one in Albania but its in the owners front garden and you have to give him advance notification if you want to find it so that he will put it out for you! And finally the largest country in the world Russia has just 44 caches. Theres probably more than that in Wigan or Chorley!
  3. ... and I certainly never misinterpret messages or instructions I don't usually join in congratulations threads but this is a worthy exception, many congratulations Paul! I feel honoured that my Runcorn Gap caches helped you acheive this total. I am currently on 47 so I have some catching up to do. BTW Chas in your secret rating system have you had to invent a special code for when you encounter people bonking at cache sites?

  5. go to American google maps search for New York City you should see a new street view button, click it lots of the streets will turn blue. zoom in until you see a icon of a person drag this person on to one of the blue streets So far I have just had this working with New York and San Fransisco. Might be a while before it gets to Bolton!
  6. Hi folks Last time I mentioned the new multimap site the general concensus was that people where unhappy about the lack of OS maps. Well it was because Ordnance Survey had not at that time given permission for their use with a scrollable map. Well now they have. (1) Go to the new multimap site (2) search for somewhere (3) hover over the map button and you will get a little square. Click on this square and there you have it a scrollable OS map.
  7. What about Dunsop Bridge, after all it does have a very significant position in British Isles, Dunsop Bridge was officially recognised by the Ordnance Survey in 1992 as the neareset village to the centre of the British Isles. OK I can now hear loads of you wanting to disagree. No it's definatly not Meriden anyway. Currently the path at Dunsop Bridge is close because walkers are being attacked by Owls.
  8. I muggled a cache for the first time this weekend. I suppose its not too uncommon to feel you have to take one home with you. In this case it was a local one for me but what do you do when you are miles from home? I suppose you just have to risk it.
  9. May I suggest a change of name, Cachers Revolt Against Popcorn. Would anyone else like to join the CRAP campaign?
  10. It turns out Jo and I where in the same class at school. Geocaching.com is better than friends reunited!
  11. Hello Jo. I'm one of about four active cachers in Bolton. I'll send you an email. Most of the ones in Markandlynn's list are puzzles and multis. I am big fan of puzzles and multi's but not everyone is so bear that in mind. You could also come on to the North West Caching forum. Paul
  12. I know you weren't one of the people having a go at him Paul but his first sentence was "I'm the main reviewer for France". You couldn't be more straight to the point if you tried!
  13. And I think we should all commend Riviouveur on his perfect command of written English He should also be commended for the admirable restraint he has shown after receiving a complete unnecessary flaming for posting what was a simple and polite request. It doesn't put us UK cachers in a good light.
  14. In my opinion it certainly would be possible to get over 100 in a day without doing just drive by cache and dashes. Looking at some of the series that are around it would be possible to pick groups of 10 to 20 where going back to the car would more than likely slow you down. After the planning its more a matter of getting out and doing it. Set a date and go do it. I just want to beat my total of 7!
  15. If you ask me its all the fault of power trails! As nowadays the fashion seems to be that you place tons of caches in one go then it's inevitable that the quality of stuff in them tends to deteriorate.
  16. I must say that I am not a big fan of Power Trails. When I first did Oldham way I thought it was fun because it was a bit of a novelty, but now its a novelty if you only place one cache as they seem to be everywhere. When I do them I end up only a doing a few because I get bored and then when I get back to log them I can't remember which one's which, especially when they have dull names like bla bla number 1, bla bla number 2 etc. And I agree with MarkandLynn about the logs. All you get is "Nice Quick Find" thirty odd times, very dull. It reduces the hobby to mere box ticking. Just my personal opinion, give me a multi any day!
  17. It turns out I did multimap a small dis service. They did want to keep the ordnance survey style maps but unfortunately OS would not allow them to be used with a draggable map. The old multimap site with the OS maps will continue though so you can all still use them.
  18. I don't think so but when they saw that there were raised eyebrows!
  19. You know I anticipated this reaction and told my brother in law in advance. He realised this might be a problem but the powers that be at multimap do seem preoccupied with googlising it. I am not sure how many of them are aware of Geocaching. I have always thought it strange that the Geocaching.com does not provide a link map to multimap. I have never liked streetmap and until PUP's recent posting about improving firefox I always used Geocacheuk.com for maps because it did actually link to multimap. I think we should all follow alistair's lead there.
  20. They are working on that right now apparently "testing the fix" at this very moment. Yesterday it DID take you back to the old site. Today I have to remove multimap.com cookies to get back to the old site.
  21. I have been a bit short of things to put in the caches recently but my little lad usually wants to take something so I have started to leave money. Not sure if thats a good idea really, what does everyone think? I did this in one of PUP's caches on Sunday, Thirlmere aqueduct.
  22. If you go to multimap site there is a link under the logo to say "try our new site". My brother in law (who is an occasional Geocacher) has had a great deal to do with this new site. Its main feature is draggable maps. I would be interested to see what you all think of it so I can pass reaction on to him. For me the main drawback is the absence of the old 1:25 000 000 ordance survey style maps, this was what multimap had over google maps. The draggable map is very good though. Please a take a look.
  23. Its football! Stags- Mansfield Town Spireites - Chesterfield. speaking of which well done for scoring Sheffield United's third goal on Saturday John, that should see them safe. OT - What is that all about?
