  1. Your right it doesn't neccesarily make it a bad cache but I think the differnce between your cache and the cache RD is referring to is you don't make a secret of the fact that it is overrated while the owner of this cache did and when asked questions about it basically was evasive and not truthful. Okay, now I understad the case of reda$s. Still, ruining it for other folks is a bit petty. Most liars caches give themselves away. For a normal adult to be taken by one is a bit embarassing. In most cases those same people have a vested interest in seeing other folks share their embarassment rather than call attention to their own. I guess its how you see the point of view (thp nI do see your poitn too and did think about it a bit before I told the people I told via private email) everyone in our state that is now aware has thanked us and said they would have been teed off as they were going to follow in our footsteps and do the cache, now they won't invest the time, the money, etc. Looking back yes there were some clues and there was some discussion that if this turned out to be BS that we'd be really really PISSED which is why the questions we asked were asked. In fact a whole event was set up around this KEWL really hard challange and to be taken in this case set off the group. I will tell you tho that we never intened to tell anyone beyond our own state board but then the vicious nasty email the owner sent was enough to set a few off even further. I really have no problem being taken if it is a local cache and time and money didn't have to be invested, the fact that it cost this group close to the amount it did plus all the time is what probably put everyone over the edge. An email should have been sent to the group organizer telling the group the truth and then they could make a fully informed decison if they wanted to come. This along with a request to keep it secret would have been honored. Anyone planning on doing it after we aborted or completed our trip (more then likely aborted) would have been instructed to contact the owner for info on the cache, then the cache owner could have once again given the details and saved heartache, dissapointment, etc. I have no vest interest in embarrassing others, I know I don't like being put in that situation and wouldn't do it to others.

  3. In the case that Red Devil is referring to there was no appeal in fact everyone on the trip walked away foriuos (sp) and torked off, mainly because it was over a 4 hour drive for most, the participants were looking for a level 4.0 cache, and between all the participants there was approx 900.00 invested in doing the cache.
  4. I get up to Little Falls once a month and try and cache. I'll be caching up there next Sat if the weather is decent and depending on the time of day I get off of work.
  5. Geocoins are like travel bugs, someone "owns" them and may or may not put them in caches. If found in a cache they should be moved around from cache to cache, they are not meant to be kept. Some people do buy coins and do trade them but not by putting them in caches but instead through private party discussions. Wooden coins are more like personal cache items; they are left in caches and can be traded out tho as a cahce owner I like to collect them from my caches and keep them.

    Mngca Down?

15Tango the PM is from me. Just wondering if you need some assistance watching your caches over your extended leave. If so I was volunteering to give you a hand.
  9. Yep log it. When we get new coins between my 4 some we bringing em in to each other, each one logs it and returns it to the owner to drop in a cache. We've seen it, touched, then we log it!
  10. A note on the cache page alerting us single non-children cachers would be nice! I'm a single female and have gotten the LOOKS a mam can give, makes the blood run cold.
  11. Camocacher here, I'm a woman and go out ALL the time by myself. Occassionally my hubby joins me, occassionally a female friend joins me and 1 time a week I go out with a bunch of guys caching.
  12. Backpack to carry everything PDA for paperless cacheing - saves trees and you have all the logs cache containers - in case I find a great place to hide one Cell Phone - a must in case of injury or get a little turned around or need a hint from a fellow cacher TB's to drop off hats, gloves, scarf in winter extra socks and shoes in case of water hazards Boots for hiking and water hazards
  13. Cute, as long as it is trackable I'd love 1, errr actually lets go with 2. Of course assuming the price is reasonable!
  14. I erase as I fond them.
  15. I disagree with this to some degree. Say it gets left and someone like a city official finds it in very bad disrepair and that park then bans caching in its boarders because of "trash" left by other cachers or a muggle finds it and checks out caching to a certain extent but not enough and forms an opinion about trash cachers leave laying about, etc. I know I found a cache this weekend, sorrounded by water, rusted coffee can, broken lid, contents all wet, with a couple previous complaints in the past, and very few visits recently. Yes the placers are still on the site and regualrly cache. I grabbed the whole cache and posted a found and needs archieved. Now if I had a container I would have fixed it up but I didn't.
  16. I also take my batteries out and then put them back in, I use rechargables and find it happens most often as I loose battery power.
  17. Nevermind I think it is because I tried to use the download waypoints from the big page instead of going into the individual cache.
  18. When I download into GSAK from geocaching.com the logs are not downloading. Any suggestions?
  19. The GSAK Application is working fine until I go to send the waypoints to my Garmin V. Gpsbabel.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. GSAK acts as if the waypoints were sent after you close the error message but when you check the GarminV there is nothing. On the set up area I have selected Garmin, did not uncheck as I am using a seriel port, com ports blank (if I put com1 thru com4 it doesn't see them), port speed is automatically set, max set is 300. Any ideas. I am not PC literate so please provide simple instructions
  20. I've got to say the MNGCA has done alot for the sport in MN. The week nightcachers are a great group of people very intent on helping new cachers, making friends, enjoy a hobby (or hobbies (BEER)) and promoting Geocaching. I for one am glad they are there and thnak them for all of their hard work.
  21. MORML you mean the organization which wants to change the MJ Use law. Man that one's too funny. Can we say ulterior motive. Off topic so probably need to take this off line. Ongoing studies of teenagers and their drug use patterns show that very few use other drugs without first trying marijuana. For instance, the risk of using cocaine has been estimated to be more than 100 times greater for those who have tried marijuana than for those who have never tried it. To date, there have been few studies on factors associated with this so called gateway theory of drug use and dependence, but growing evidence suggests a combination of biological, social, and psychological factors are involved. Research published in the January 22, 2003 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association is the first major attempt to tease apart the genetic and environmental factors that predispose young marijuana users to develop subsequent problems with other, more dangerous drugs. The findings suggest that children who used marijuana before age 17 were much more likely to go on to other drugs and to have alcohol or drug dependance problems compared to their twins who did not use marijuana before the age of 17. About the Study Researchers in Australia studied 311 twins (622 individuals) who participated in the Australian Twin Register. These men and women (average age 30 years) were telephoned by the researchers and asked questions about their non-medical drug use: specifically about the initiation and frequency of the drug use and related problems. Question on factors associated with an increased risk of using marijuana and other drugs (like psychiatric disorders and early tobacco or alcohol use) were also asked. The researchers then calculated the odds of later drug use and dependence if a person started smoking marijuana before the age of 17. The Findings The majority of those who reported both marijuana and other drug use said that they started using marijuana before using other drugs. Compared to their twin who had not used marijuana before the age of 17, those who had used marijuana by this age were 2.1 to 5.2 times more likely to have reported drug use, illicit drug abuse or dependence, and alcohol dependence. By using twins, the researchers were able to adjust for genetic and a number of environmental factors that could have influenced initiation of marijuana and other drug use. This allowed them to get a better understanding of the role that early marijuana use might play in later drug use and dependence. RESOURCES: National Institute on Drug Abuse National Institutes of Health But I am sure we can each find listing after listing to prove our sides. I'll believe what I say with my own eyes.
  22. We have a group up here that meets one night a week to go caching. In the winter mnths it is always dark and they have a blast. They even made the papers. I am joining them the first time this week. Tried 2 other times. Phone, warm clothes, flashlights
