  1. Now thats COOL. Its great being able to sort on the direction that I'll be heading. Thanks Clay! When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  2. I was at Meramec Spring in Missouri with an underwater camera. I bought a handful of Trout Chow and coaxed these big devils really close, then tossed in the whole handful and stuck the camera underwater and snapped this pic. The trout in the center of the pic would probably weigh in around 15 or so lbs and there are 6 more in the shot around the same size. When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  3. quote: I picked this up from the Meridian Yahoo groups listserv. There's a wealth of information that comes through there, although I wish the volume of the messages was less to wade through. What a mess! When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  4. quote: What is cache maintainence anyway? Does it mean you replensih it with geegaws? Who cares. As long as it has a logbook. And if the cache falls apart, etc, who cares. I care, if a cache gets scattered and falls apart it quits being a cache and becomes litter. I take full responsibility for my cache and if it turns into a mess its gone ASAP. quote: Someone will post to that effect and that will be it for that cache. So if the placer lives 500 miles away and won't be back again till possibly next year then what? When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  5. My queries skip archived and unavailable too. When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  6. I bought Topo 4.0 US and love it. I use it alot and even got a cheapo laptop to carry it with on cache hunts. My questions to current users is: Did you buy the satellite imagery to go with it? If so did you feel you got your $'s worth? I downloaded the little freebie chunk of my area. Its pretty cool, zooms nice up to 12-0 but higher than that it gets fuzzy. Was not impressed with the print output at all. Problem with it is that my stompin grounds are N. Arkansas and S. Missouri. It'd be a $200 dollar addon to a $100 dollar application. I normally don't pay much attention to terraserver images but the newer images might be handy. Just wondering what others thought about it before I plunk down anymore sheckles. 7. 1 more arkansas cacher When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  8. Whats the point of telling non-caching friends what I'm doing this weekend. When I first explained caching they asked what was in the cache, I said trinkets, toys, beanie babies or whatever. Now whenever I mention going caching they ALWAYS say, "Gonna go get some new beanie babies huh!" I've told them repeatedly that I've never actually traded for a beany baby and don't even own any beany babies, as a matter of fact I rarely trade at all, but thats whats stuck in their pointed heads. (Geocache = beanybabies.) I've just gotten to the point of when they ask about the weekend I just say nothing. I feel like a CLOSET CACHER!!!!! 9. Several months ago a guy stopped me in a park way out in the middle of nowhere to ask directions. I used the map on my GPS to show him where he wanted to go and he asked lots of questions about the unit and I explained geocaching to him. Well, last saturday I was parked at a cache nearly 100 miles away and someone pulls up, holding a gps and he looked awfully familiar.... I don't know what the odds are that he and I picked the same cache at the same time but it has to be in the millions. I really have to hand it to him too because he has no internet access. He went to his brothers house, did a search and wrote the co-ords down and took off hunting. He even had a few virts mixed in there and didnt know what they were till after he tried to find one. He gets my vote as he-man-geocacher of the year. When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  10. Once gave me bad coordinates so I burned it with a cigarette. I dont do that anymore since I joined gps-beaters-anon. When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  11. Only thing that might stop you is snow covering the cache. I cache exclusivly in the winter because of the bugs and the heat. We've got ticks and chiggers up to our arses down here. Then theres the mosquitos, snakes and the occasional scorpion. To me there is nothing more miserable than being covered in chiggers. When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  12. quote: The Pocket Query function is the very definition of incentive. As the set of GPX tools matures, it becomes more and more and *more* valuable. For my part, I can say that I am adding as many useful features to Watcher as I can (as fast as I can, too), and with each new feature, more people are finding the things they really wanted. Just last night I added a sortable state/country column I agree with Clay. I've been a non charter for over a year and after seeing and playing with a few GPX apps I was more than happy to pony up for a charter. First shot at a new cache wouldnt have been incentive enough for me, and if I place any more caches, I want anyone and everyone to have at it as quick as they can. 13. I had a little trouble with GPX's and my problem was in the download and not the generated file itself. I couldnt get all the waypoints to load in Easy GPS and then when I got EZgps to go, I couldnt get Watcher to load em. What I did was have GC send me a zip file. That kept the formatting intact and kept IE from corrupting it during download. I don't think the problem is totally with Geocaching.com, I think its in IE. 14. I saw them at Bass Pro in Springfield MO. I believe they've got a store in Dallas too. When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  15. Why not get a photo of the bear with some kids and release that? I've only seen one cache larger than the standard ammo can and the owner already had it stuffed full. When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  16. I road tested this weekend and really liked having the info at hand. Only thing I'd like to see added is another column for sorting on direction. Like being able to see all the caches North or NW of the center coords. Keep up the good work! When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  17. I have to do the following hit download to easygps hit open from existing location hit save file in the next window If you look at the first window it says something like bulk_waypoints.asp, the second window will say geocaching.loc Its done this to me using win98 and IE5 plus win2k and IE6. I have the same problem with yahoo webmail attachments sometimes too. When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  18. Got to run it for the first time last night. Really nice! Normally I don't read the descriptions or logs but I will be able to now that I can carry em with. Thanks Clay! When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  19. I'm a part time fly fishing guide. When I got my Merigreen it went everywhere with me. I had it in my drift boat laid on the seat and the aluminum flexed and "popped" my unit into the river. I was looking around thinking "is someone tossing rocks at us?" My client began stammering and pointing and sure enough there was my green, bobbing with the top 2 inches sticking out of the water. I rowed over and grabbed it, looked it over and went back to fishing. Point to this post is. Waterproof wasn't an issue when I bought it but if I were to buy another, you can bet yer arse it will be. 21. I use a Gateway Solo 200mhz. It runs Delormes apps really well despite their recommendation for at least a 233 mhz. As noted above you'll want the biggest HD you can get, mines only 6 gig and stays full up requiring me to carry CD's. When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  22. Instead of reporting that the tupperware cache is wet, you report is as frozen. Took: Ice Left: In a hurry When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  23. Only time my Merigreen has lost waypoints is if I mark a waypoint then let the battery die before manually shutting it off. I installed the update last week and I'll start watching a littler closer though. When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  24. Lately I've just been downloading the coordinates and taking off blind. I filter out the virts but never know if I'm looking for a mini or a regular. So far only had to post 2 DNF's compared to 15 or so FI!s. Reason I'm doing this is I have no inet access at home and don't really want to hang around the office anymore than I have to. Just signed up for charter so I'll be getting pocket queries. Having pretty good success so I'll probably save them just in case I get in a jam. When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
  25. When I read the first post about the official stickers I figured they'd be like geocoins or geochips and become schwag. I guess we'll have to attach them, then score em with a blade so they wont come off in one piece. Thats a trick I learned in Houston to keep the riff raff from swiping your vehicle registration stickers. When GPSr's are outlawed, only Outlaws will have GPSr's.
