  1. I am making a trip to the Dominican Republic and have an iPhone and a Garmin Nuvi.

Since I don't believe I can use my phone I was wondering if I can use my Garmin for geocaching using the "Where am I feature" to geocache while I am there. Arethe only requirements for GPS's be able to access a satellite signal? Thanks for any help in advance.

  2. I have a recent problem (last few months) when I log a catch using the app on my Iphone and save and send a log, it does not appear on my geocaches when I look them up on the website. I have to go on my laptop and enter the info all over again. When I'm using the app on my phone, I get the message that log was sent, and they also do not appear on my pending. Does anyone have an ides of what's going on? Thanks?

Ah ha! you are right...is the default "send as a field note"? Just looked and that is exactly what has been happening. Thank you!

  4. A little harsh here, guys.

I know the feeling...the feeling of being responsible for a TB, at least until one knows that it is safe in another cacher's hands. If I thought that someone had stolen a TB I had dropped off, I wouldn't be a happy camper either. It's all well and good to think of these things as just another game piece, but when one looks at the goals and travels of some of these things, they have a history and you wish a good future for them.

The truth is, once they are out there, they are pretty much on their own. And humans will be humans, both good and bad.

Thank you Fandango739. I just feel responsible for these kids in NH getting a chance to see their bug travel on the road. I took such care in trying to find it a good cache and am disappointed that someone took it with no intention of moving it along.

  5. Thanks for everyone''s response.

    1. I didn't realize that my title was offensive.

    2. Perhaps I came across more concerned than I actually am. This is afterall just a game. I am not angry.

    3. Headed out to check on the cache and we'll see if the bug is still there.

  6. Just need to let off some steam. I recently placed a large bug in a ammo can cache. I got it up in NH...it was a big dragon with a bug tag and an info sheet....was a project for a 6th grade class. I took it and had searched close to my home in VA for a large enough cache to put him in. Even added a note to him to please take him only if you intended to move him. Well I see in the log cache someone was there and found the cache but did not log the bug. I am pissed that someone would take him with no intention of moving him on and how disappointed these kids will be. What a putz! Thanks for letting me vent!

  7. As a premium member you have the ability to run an advanced search called a Pocket Query. Among other things it will let you set the cache size.

    http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/default.aspx

Here's an option to get the details without actual getting a query that you have to download.

    Select Create a new query

DO NOT select a day to run.

500 caches is probably enough (It goes up to 1000)

Don't worry about the cache types.

For Any Container you have to select Selected Containers: and then the cache size.

I prefer to select Is Enabled so I don't include caches that are missing or currently unavailable.

If you haven't set your home location just enter in your zipcode.

    100 miles should do it

    Submit information.

Then at the top select preview the search. That will give you the cache results you are looking for. You can always go back and filter out caches like multies or high difficultly levels, and resubmit.
