  1. If it's a weekday evening, almost certainly I'll be there. I work in London and get the train home through this area, so it's be fairly easy for me.
  2. www.duell.org.uk Not only about caching, but whenever I cache I write about it!
  3. Woo, thanks for the link to Aardvark- it's good
  4. The programmes available on Listen Again - take the link from here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/science/clickon/index.shtml
  5. I agree with what previous posters have said - archiving UK caches will hurt UK cachers, no-one else. It might end up costing GS a few quid in premium memberships - if PMs decide not to renew because there aren't may caches in their area - but that's about all. I 100% agree that the whole thing is very frustrating, and I think that GS are being unfair on UK cachers, especially following Jan and the Percy Boys' post this morning: But the funny thing is, I went caching yesterday, and finding lunchboxes hidden in the woods was just as much fun as it had ever been. The current situation has to be resolved, and I can't see how that's going to happen as long at TPTB are hiding behind volunteer mods who are doing their best, but don't actually have the authority to change anything*. But destroying what's left of our hobby isn't the way forward. *No disrespect to dino-irl, Mtn-man and the other non-UK reviewers who are here and helping out, and providing explanations and advice as best they can. Guys, we appreciate your efforts - but I think TPTB are being unfair to you, in getting you to handle the flak from a situation they've caused.
  6. Hear hear to what they all said...put it behind you and enjoy the tupperware hunt. And thanks for everything you've done.
  7. I'm a keen cacher AND a committed churchgoer, and I don't see any problem with church caches. I know of two near me, both placed with the vicar's permission. The only reason there isn't one at my church is that it isn't a particularly interesting location! I think this feeling that churchgoers would be offended by people daring to have fun in and around their churches is a false one - we like to enjoy ourselves too, y'know!
  8. I know the feeling. I work near Holborn, and the two nearest caches to the office had to wait until I came back on a Saturday Finding a muggle-free time was impossible! And back on OT - I met someone the other day who'd been arrested - actually arrested - for taking pics of the London Eye. And without giving away too much about what I do for a living - I AM in a position to know that his account of what happened is true
  9. I've walked away from caches rather than stick my hand into a blind hole, in "that sort" of area - you pretty quickly get a feel for where you're likely to get a problem. Most people who discard needles aren't looking to hide them - that's why you see them left out in the open - so the chances of there being one in the hole you're sticking your hand in are even lower than you might think. But the potential consequences if you DID get a stick are serious enough, that it's not worth risking just for one more smiley.
  10. I'll be there, date dependant - I've got a few days of working outside London in March and April, but if I can I will :-)
  11. I'm with the other posters - place the caches that YOU want to place. Personally I prefer a multi to give me an idea what I'm in for, so I know if it's long or short, or will take me towards or away from where I want to go, etc. But multis have their place, alongside all the other cache types
  12. This is great! I've never used ukgeocachers, but I will now. Well done them.
  13. I normally choose not to do caches near childrens play parks - but I choose not to do lots of types of caches, that doesn't necessarily make them bad caches. If a cache is placed, with appropriate permission, people will make their own choice about whether to do it or not. The cache owner will soon get the message if it was a good place or not - but whatever and wherever the cache is, some will like it and some not.
  14. Just downloaded splitter, works OK on the new PDA, so it'll be handy. Can't make it work on the old PDA yet but I'll persevere! Thanks for the link.
  15. I'd rate it 3*, but put in the description "The clue makes this a 1*"
  16. Well, as a commuter who spends nearly three hours a day in the tender hands of South West Trains, I love "proper" puzzle caches - of the "Sofa" type, as someone near the top of this thread said. They give me some caching activity to do at a time I couldn't go caching any other way! But I DO agree, it would be good if there was some way to identify this sort of cache without trawling through all the "Any other kind" icons...
  17. I usually just say "I'm doing a treasure hunt, and the next clue's around here somewhere". If they think you're looking for "treasure" they'll stick around and see if you find it; if they think you're looking for a clue they'll probably get bored and wander off
  18. If several people all find the cache on its first day, it often happens that the FTF isn't the FT Log. So GUK awards an FTF to anyone who logs on day one. It's not perfect, but it's the best they can do!
  19. I may have missed the OPs point here, but what struck me was that someone wanted the track numbers emailed - wasn't even prepared to make the effort to write them down. I don't normally "discover" anything I haven't moved, but if it's a nice coin (of which I haven't got the icon) or a special TB (like mine in memory of a deceased cacher) then I might. But I wouldn't count it for COTM.
  20. All the best and Get Well Soon from me as well.
  21. Thanks, I used the info to re-order the priority so that all my founds appear as founds whether they're archived or not...thanks for the help. Rutson's suggestion led to a Macro Error report which ran anyway, but returned all blue dots for my finds.
