  1. I used to think hiking poles were for dorks cause they lacked the character of a true walking stick. That said I've found myself on many impromptu treks without a pole (and wishing I had one) cause there aren't enough places to store a 5' stick in a Jeep Wrangler for daily driving. I've been pondering a collapsible pole to keep in the Jeep for just those occassions. Do you like ketchup on your crow?
  2. I used to play a tabletop strategy game called Warhammer 40K. In this game you have a lot of miniature army men and tanks that you use to kill your opponents army. My army was named the Imperial Gaurd which most people abbreviated as IG. I took to calling my army men IGJoe's as a play on GIJoe. I was never very good at the game but I've always hung onto my little pun.
  3. Confessed ... please don't penance me in the face!
  4. So let me see if I have this straight, 'Team Desert Eagle' have over 2900 finds, 264 FTF's and have hidden over 100 caches ....... oh, and he gives away geocoins. This is definately someone that needs to be 'controlled' by another cacher. His FTF rate is less than 10%, how is that excessive?!?! Cache Police believes he is enhancing geocaching for others make taking caches away? All I can say is I'm glad that guy is no longer in Georgia.
  5. CURSE THIS MOVIE AND THREAD ....... How long has it been around? I managed to completely overlook it until yesterday. Now that I've been infected with it I'm constantly humming 'Going on a GPS hunt ..... Me and Andrew .....'
  6. Unit: So, did you see the movie? Me: What movie? Unit: DUH! GPS the movie Me: Does it have any girl with girl caching action? Unit: ........ NO......... Me: then no Unit: What, what's so funny? Me: Nothing. I just always become amused at the idea of talking to my 'unit' (imitates Beavis & Butthead laugh) Unit: (Sigh) Whaaatever, can you get this over with and turn me off? Me: Funny, I get that a lot. Unit: Bite me (Bleep bloop) Low Battery
  7. My thoughts as well. I'll be in Indiana next month. The APE cache in Illinios is a 6 hr round trip from there. The question is: Do I want it that bad to blow off half a day while there? Why not, I'd spend much more than that establishing and maintaining a replacement cache had it been allowed.
  8. Now see here, it's not about how tall ya are but how ya rhyme so far, got it?
  9. I'd say that about settles it ....... now lets derail this puppy <Insert angsty reply about not getting my way>
  10. I carry a 12 gauge pump-action shotgun, binoculars, unidentifiable bottle that's supposed to be suntan lotion, canteen and a shoulder bag with 2 landmines in it ....... did I mention all of these things are scaled for a 12" action figure. Which works out well because I'm only 12" tall. I don't really need the landmines but they give the bag heft for pictures, and we gotta look good for them pictures.
  11. Initially I thought the same thing but the guidelines mention there is an appeal process if your cache gets archived. I took that to mean an archival can be reversed. At the same time several project APE caches were adopted by other cachers when the Project APE promo ended. Lastly, people replace muggled caches all the time. Since the pieces of this puzzle are not unprecedented I wonder if they can all be put together to bring a historic cache back to life.
  12. Can an archived cache be adopted assuming it wasn't archived because it violated placement rules? More specifically, the Project APE cache here in Georgia went missing back in 2003 and was presumably archived for that reason. If I was willing to place a new container (similar to the original) at the same co-ordinates could this cache live on? I'd like to hear from everyone but I'm particularly interested in the opinion of moderators, cache reviewers and members of the more inner circle of caching clik. I realize I could email my local reviewer but I thought I would throw it out here in the open discussion instead of jamming the personal inbox of a committed, hardworking and dedicated volunteer
  13. Lately, the time to cache has been much more expensive than the supplementals. I'm not really sure it could get expensive enough to stop caching. I drive 30+ miles (45 minutes) one way to work. If I'm going to open my wallet that wide to get to work I'm definately not going to complain when it comes time to play.

    Yellow Jeeps

Correct. The yellow Jeeps are from Jeep's 2004 geocaching contest while the white ones are from a similar promotion in 2005. Coming soon are the Green Jeeps for this year's contest. There's a lot of angst about the fact that many cachers treat these TB's differently than others. More specifically many cachers have fewer reservations about keeping (collecting) the Jeeps when they would never do that to regular TB's that don't belong to them. As far as other TB's and coins go I can't really say if there are others that seem to be as universally desired as the Jeeps. Coins are certainly very nice to discover because they're usually a little on the pricey side and I admire anyone who sends something valuable out into the trust of the general public. They too seem to have an unfortunate habit of being 'collected' by some cads. That said, you may also find a geocoin that isn't trackable, i.e. it doesn't have an engraved (or attached) tracking number. If you find one of these AND it doesn't have specific instructions then you can treat it as a trade item. In that case count yourself very lucky and leave something of equivelent value (approx $5 - $10). Oh, I'm sorry. I'm a little on the new side too. Appearently I was suppossed to rudely refer you to the 'search' feature of the forums instead of attempting to answer your question. Sorry, won't happen again.

    Yellow Jeeps

I don't think you can. last time I checked I just paged through all the caches in Georgia, I've got that kinda time, and looked at each one with the Jeep icon. If you're a premium member I suppose you could shortcut that some by doing a pocket query on TB's then identifying the Jeeps from that shorter list. I don't automatically assume a lack of recent activity means they're MIA ... 2 of the ones in GA that I think are still valid haven't moved in several months. I 'suspect' they're still in there becuase one is in one of the toughest mutlicaches in the state while the other is in a puzzle cache.

    Yellow Jeeps

Last time I checked and weeded out the MIA's there only seemed to be 2 or 3 in caches in Georgia. My very first travel bug was a yellow Jeep. Granted I went after it because it was a Jeep TB but at the time I didn't understand the difference between the yellow & whites. I remember finding it in the cache and feeling very underwhelmed. I now realize how lucky I was.
  17. Same problem here: No insta-notices for some time emails from other cachers and weekly notices arrive just fine I use Gmail I'm in Georgia but I doubt that has anything to do with it.
  18. remuneration .... I love cool words If corporations want to support our hobby then I say all the better. If Jeep and Absolut are putting trackables out there that cost us nothing to pursue then great. I'm not bothered at all if the TB or Coin was purchased by a corporation or an individual. I does the same for me either way.
  19. Hootunes, DeathTakesLast The resue chopper may not have been big enough for all three to bugs to escape on this trip but the truth is I didn't see your requests until it was too late. I can swing back by on Monday and bust them out if they're still there.
  20. ~~Play A-team music In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have an imprisoned Travel Bug, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team. Operation 'Sea Salt Run' was a success. 'Lost Shaker of Salt' has been freed. Full operation briefing and visual record to be added to the TB's page soon.
  21. Personally I've never watched a cache because I DNF'd (cuz like you I always log then). I generally watchlist caches because: A) Its a cache I intend to hit soon I think its an interesting idea/theme/location C) It has an interesting item (TB, Geocoin) in it D) briefly watch my FTF's to see who gets there next
  22. My cousin found a submerged cache recently. The owner used an ammo box and put play sand in it until it was heavy enough to sink. Fortunately he also left plent of extra ziplocs to protect items going into the cache. The logs indicated he originally used stones but people kept taking the stones as trade items ?!?!? go figure.
  23. I sorta like this idea. Puts the responsibility on the seeker. A novel concept though not one we're accustomed to here in the US. Better yet, maybe you could put a cache at Both locations regardless of which way the question is answered. A traditional family cache at the location result for 'No' and an adault cache at the location result for 'yes'.
  24. It is written and so it shall be done. BA, Faceman, Murdock .... you have your assignments. We roll at oh nine nundred. What would be a REAL tragedy is if some highway traveler took this bug on his way north and didn't take a 'lost shaker of salt' to visit the Buffet themed restaurant/bar Cheeseburger in Paradise here in the ATL. Gotcha covered buddy, gotcha covered.
  25. I've always considered myself far too boring to be controversial.
