  1. I've been doing this at random times by leaving a personal/signature card in the cache with instructions to contact me by email if they are interested in getting a geocoin, then I mail the coin to that person directly. I have usually done this for caches that I really enjoyed when traveling and it's a neat way to also strike up a conversation with cachers from those areas -- or even other visitors who enjoyed the same cache! But, Jed, I like your idea as well... and I've got a few coins still to give away. Send me a couple of names & email and I'll see what I can do to get them a lonely, unactivated coin from my collection!
  2. The long slow descent of a nano cache.... if you read from the bottom up. [Archived] Local Reviewer ... archived ... [] August 25 by HonestCacher#2 (460 found) Didn't even find half! CO should check on this one. [sBA] August 22 by FirstHonestCacherIn6Months (731 found) Found half the cache with PriorFinder, but... i refuse to log half a nano with no log book. The owner has not logged in to geocaching.com since March. This should be archived until/unless it is replaced with an actual cache. [] August 7 by LogIsMissingClaimingFindAnyhow#7 (597 found) Visiting from Chicagoland and this is very close to where my friends live. As others have noted, half of this is missing and there is no log. But one half is right there. I took a picture in case the CO would like to see it. And yes, the sliding hill is still as reported. TFTC! #553 [] July 27 by LogIsMissingClaimingFindAnyhow#6 (308 found) Too bad there isn't a "type of log" for found half of it! Like many others have reported, only half of the nano container is there. No log in sight. If it gets replaced I will swing by and sign the log. [] June 24 by e-LogIsMissingClaimingFindAnyhow#5 (120 found) Didn't see the comments before I searched for this one. Yes, a crucial part of the container is missing, along with the log. Looks like you've been muggled. [] June 21 by LogIsMissingClaimingFindAnyhow#4 (180 found) Found the magnetic 1/2 of a "bullet" type cache. No screw top and no log... otherwise it was just fine. TFTH [] June 19 by LogIsMissingClaimingFindAnyhow#3 (6203 found) Caching the area with TrueNanoFinder. Like others have mentioned the container (well half of it anyway) was the only thing there but for me it was out in the open and the log was long gone. [] April 3 by LogIsMissingClaimingFindAnyhow#2 (444 found) TFTH Only found part of the container. [] March 8 by LogIsMissingClaimingFindAnyhow#1 (878 found) Found the bottom half of a nano with no log. I assume that was the cache. It needs maintenance. [+] March 5 by LogIsSignedAgain (1606 found) This one needs a new container. There is only half of the container left. Luckily with the log, but unfortunately with rain the log will become mush. [] March 5 by LogIsSignedAgain (1606 found) Hmmm Quick find tonight it was out in the open. Only one problem. The container only had the lid. I could find no other part of the container. The log was dry however. I placed it back into its hiding place, but this one needs some TLC soon or the log will be mush. TFTC. [] February 28 by StillSignedLogSoItCounts (798 found) Half of the container is missing but fortunately the half that is there contains the log. I looked for the other half but couldn't locate it. TFTC! [] November 1, 2009 by TrueNanoFinder (1006 found) Not too hard. TFTH!
  3. It could help you to go through this list: http://www.geocaching.com/my/logs.aspx?s=1 It seems that this list gives the exact find order (or at least the order that you originally logged the finds), reading from bottom to top. And since it's all on one page, it makes it easier to click on the link to goto the cache listing to make your dip log, then come back to this list. It's also considered good form to go back and delete the 'dip' log on the cache itself. The TB will still have the 'visited' log, but there's no need to pollute the cache listing with the extra log.
  4. Cache description says specifically: "Bring your own writing implement. A fine point sharpie is recommended." June 21 by [Pen-less] (xxx found) I think I found it... said GC and had at least one set of intials that I could see. No pen this small so did not log. TFTH (I think).
  5. In my caching time, I've seen quite a few different "not-officially-trackable" trade items in caches. A cool deck of playing card (with WWII bomber info on each one), laminated together with a slip of paper saying basically:"let me know where you found this. I'm at : abc@email.etc". This one was big enough to not get lost in the cache but it was easily "collectible" and still didn't guarantee you that someone will actually contact you. Also I've seen some fish beads with a small tag and a sequence # that were tracked on the owner's personal website. With a TB or Geocoin, the fact that it gets "checked in" to the cache listing means that other cachers will be on the lookout for it when they visit and (may) report it missing. And everyone knows (hopefully!) that they should not take out a TB or Coin without logging it online. So - in summary - get a TB tag (or geocoin!), attach it to something cool enough to make people want to take it with them and log it online, but not so cool that they want to steal it. And if you want to leave a personal 'calling card' in the cache, you're still free to do so. But unless it's really unique, don't expect anyone to notify you that they have taken it. And most certainly, it's very unlikely that anyone will drop *your* calling card into another cache.
  6. ... oh, and you can buy the travel bug and just etch the number onto something as well, if you wish. Just be sure that you have "trackable at geocaching.com" somewhere near the number so that people know what to do with it. But if it's not a coin and it's not a "travel bug tag", it might be mistaken for a trade item and get picked up but never logged.
  7. Just use a normal Travel Bug. You can attach it to anything. Buy 'em here: http://shop.Groundspeak.com/productDetail....mp;ProductID=23 Read about 'em here: http://www.geocaching.com/track/faq.aspx The only thing different between a geocoin and a travel bug is that coins *may* have a custom icon.
  8. Not yet. I have only a small number of my personal geocoins left in hand. Maybe if I go through the collection and sell a bunch more, I can convince the wife that I should be able to afford another new personal coin again this year.
  9. I finally got your geocaching email.... but I only got one. I wonder what is up with the GC email system these days? When stuff like this happens, I start to worry that maybe someone has written an 'Should Be Archived' on one of my caches and I didn't get the log note. <yikes>
  10. Thanks for the recent emails! I think I'm about 1/2 way to fixing my camera now! I have marked off the ones that are sold or committed to someone now. 12. I have added more coins to the original list, reduced price on a few and added a 1/2 price deal if you buy more than one coin (on certain coins.)
  13. Since I broke my digital camera (again.... but this time it was worthwhile -- to be FTF on a 5/5 cache!), I can't get pictures to go up on eBay and I need to pay for camera repairs (again), I'm selling some extra coins in my collection. I haven't been trading in quite a while, so most of these coins are from 2007 or earlier. More to come, if I don't raise enough $$ to pay for repairs this first try. Email me (no PM's please) if you're interested. First come, first paid, first served. Payment by Paypal only. Priced as listed, shipping $2 per coin, $0.50 each add'l coin. All these names are pulled from the geocoincollection website if you need pictures. The words in [brackets] are my additions to make the description clearer. 14. Yep, that's a great idea!! How about a 2-for-1 find of a coin as well?! I have a Hippie bus coin traveling along out there with one of my personal GasCans coins. Seems like a good way to travel these days of gas stations running out of fuel and shutting off their pumps! http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?tracker=TB1WGWZ http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?tracker=TB1PT4Z
  15. Hmmm... are they still considered "game tokens" if they are not trackable? I wonder if you would get even more strange looks if they were labeled "Exonumia".
  16. Thanks for this clarification.... I'll quit going crosseyed looking for my name on this current draft then.... I just couldn't find it!
  17. Well, they can't delete the emails that I've got in my inbox as a result of emails coming from the forums, so maybe I have the answer somewhere in my email history. If you care to send me a note outside of Groundspeak control, please do so and I'll see if I have the answer for you. And I am also interested as to why the thread was deleted. Eartha / FSM -- could one of you let us know what happened and why? The original thread was at: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=193050
  18. Here's my dog "Shadow" giving a goodbye kiss to a geocoin that I was sending to travel in Australia.
  19. Well, as much as I hate to report, but us USA customers were misled into paying too much for the Digital Hell coins -- mostly in the form of overseas shipping. After the "original" Digital Hell coins sold out over in Germany, I get an email today from CastleCoins saying that *they* will have some additional coins available tomorrow (May 9). Looks like they are going to have some additional versions that were not listed on the original Sepp&Berta's website. So instead of a total of 250 coins (as originally advertised) there are going to be: and By my count, that totals up to 250 + (50 * 3) + (50 * 2) + 100 = 600 coins total for the Digital Hell design. So, good news for those of you state-side residents who missed out on overpaying for shipping from overseas, you get another shot at the new editions of these coins.
  20. Oh come on There are (6) nickel ones left to buy. Go for it I ordered mine! Now here's to hoping that I can win the raffle for the blue!
  21. I got my Benchmark Geocoin club coin yesterday -- Cape Hatteras Light House. This coin means that I now have to flow over to a 2nd page of coins in my album that represent North Carolina. Woohoo! Well, now the next time I'm down that way I'm gonna have to search for that benchmark...
  22. Well, if you need help photographing the Pink, just let me know.
  23. I've got a deal for you! Send me a set of coins and I'll get beautiful photos of them for you -- free of charge!
