How do we vote? Is there a web site? Do we just send our votes to El Diablo? HOw many were we supposed to vote for?? I saw a couple/few that I think would work very well on a walking stick. I'd really like to vote for them. Ode to a Pigeon: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, You Lookin' at Me? YOU LOOKIN' AT ME?! (b. katt, 7/14/03)

Remember the CITO at Reeds Gap? Remember how hard we all worked clearing those trails? Appearantly Mother Nature didn't appreciate our efforts because she sent a (near) tornado through the area and brought down not one but TWO trees on our trails!! I've left my contact information at the Ranger's Office and told them I'd be happy to help them clear off the trail. Anyone care to join me? They probably won't let us use the chainsaw (not after that incident with the guard rail ) but we can certainly help shift the cut-up trees off the trail (these were big trees). No smiley face for this one folks. Let's just do our part to maintain the parks we enjoy. Ode to a Pigeon: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, You Lookin' at Me? YOU LOOKIN' AT ME?! (b. katt, 7/14/03)

Well, there's a first time for everything. Went and collected the Finder's Keepers at the Reeds Gap cache. I was kind of surprised no one had gone after it: A Walk in the Woods is a nice multi-cache in a neat park. Ode to a Pigeon: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, You Lookin' at Me? YOU LOOKIN' AT ME?! A bump for the week-end forum perusers! I've started mailing out registration packets, most of the caches are done, the judges have been selected: we're well on our way to a memorable event. But it won't be fun if YOU're not there! Pre-register! Ode to a Pigeon: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, You Lookin' at Me? YOU LOOKIN' AT ME?! (b. katt, 7/14/03)

On Selecting a Finder for your Cache
enfanta replied to Renegade Knight's topic in General geocaching topics
quote: My point was I see post about caches "sucking" a lot lately and wanted to know how it could. I can see where it is frustrating to spend a bunch of time to find a unkept cache, however I am more in it for the hunt. To me the quality of the actual cache is just gravy. Ah! I think we are talking at cross-purposes. I think that when you say "cache" you mean the actual container and its contents. I say "cache" and I mean the territory, the hunt and the container. 200 feet off the road by a rotten log isn't much of a hunt for me and though it would be going a bit far to say it "sucked," still, I would not be delighted enough to leave a wicked keen log. If you want the Reed's Gap, better hustle! I'm going out Sunday to collect it...

Well, one: it's Enfanta. And two, if you rate your cache as a 4/1 I expect a better hide than in a tree trunk. If there's a terribly cool feature in the area and the best you can do is pitch it next to a rotten log, you aren't trying very hard, are you? quote: It's not like we pay people to put these things out there. Very true. So it's not like I can ask for my money (and time) back, can I? It's a two-way street. You put thought into your cache, I'll put thought into my cache log. We can all tell who took the time to prepare a cool hunt and who just flung some Tupperware in the woods and considered their job done. Those folks will get a "TNLN, thx" from me. quote: Rule Number Three... No logs that say “Found It, Thanks” are allowed. If my log on your cache says "Found It, Thanks" that's code for Your Cache Sucked. No way am I giving up THAT. Ode to a Pigeon: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, You Lookin' at Me? YOU LOOKIN' AT ME?! (b. katt, 7/14/03) -

I have moved two caches. One I shifted three feet because the cover they had used was disintegrating. I set it below a (live) tree branch and pinned the branch to the ground with the ammo can. It looked very natural and matched the rating of the cache. The other cache I moved was this one. It had a 2/3 or 3/2 rating for what was basically a short hike over easy terrain to find the cache practically sitting out in the open. I shifted it a foot or two and hid it according to its rating. I don't do this lightly. If someone goes through the bother of setting a cache, it's our responsibility to keep the cache as they intended. But sometimes, on rare occasions, you have to make adjustments. Ode to a Pigeon: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, You Lookin' at Me? YOU LOOKIN' AT ME?! (b. katt, 7/14/03)

I would *love* a walking stick. I think a be-'Trexed Oolong would make a lovely netsuke for the top of a walking stick. But that's just my opinion, of course... Ode to a Pigeon: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, You Lookin' at Me? YOU LOOKIN' AT ME?! (b. katt, 7/14/03)

When is a prison not a prison. (or) Not MY travel bug!
enfanta replied to Caspian of CG's topic in General geocaching topics
Why create another prison when there are so many out there already? May I direct your attention to this bug? One year in prison. What was his offense? Travel Bugs should travel. Period. That's why I don't go after them any more: I couldn't take the guilt when I couldn't place them quickly or towards their objective. But lest I sound too negative, may I suggest that you turn your wonderful energy and creativity towards some way of keeping bugs moving?? I climbed a mountain. And another. And another, and yet one more. I saw mist rising from a fern covered glade while the creek burbled and ran on beside me. I attacked trees in frustration and exhaustion and danced with glee at the cache site. Lost, I sat in the dark without a way point to the car. I met people who are wonderful and awful and wicked keen and duller than rocks and I thank all of them for the adventures they have provided. I saw countless waterfalls. I raced on my bike through the night to seek something small and easily missed. I swam and dove in the cooling waters after a long hike and a curious find. I went on snowshoes to see the ice-covered trees. I proudly carry the title of Wicked and Evil Cache Hider. And this is just the beginning... Well, no one said being a supermodel would be easy. I heard about the bikini wax incident. Hope the beautician is better soon... She did have insurance, right? Ode to a Pigeon: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, You Lookin' at Me? YOU LOOKIN' AT ME?! (b. katt, 7/14/03)

If someone doesn't claim the FK at Reed's Gap, I will have to go back there and collect it. That will be the very first time I've had to do that. "Don't make me come out there!" Is there anything that LOOKS like blueberries but is in fact something else (and not safe to eat)? Cause we found a cool blueberry site today but the leaves don't look the same as the leaves pictured above... Ode to a Pigeon: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, You Lookin' at Me? YOU LOOKIN' AT ME?! What are the RULES for Event Caches?
enfanta replied to lowracer's topic in General geocaching topics
quote: including those with boats, so that we could do an expedition to a particular island in the middle of Lake Travis...On the way there'd be much... drinking of beer Maybe they denied it to save you a DUI. Hope to god you're appointing a designated driver for those boats. And remember: the Designated Driver is the SOBER one, not the one who's had the least to drink! I think this thread is a good idea. If you care to forward me a list (if there is one) right before 8/23, I will happily announce any caches that need adoption at the scavenger hunt event. Ode to a Pigeon: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, You Lookin' at Me? YOU LOOKIN' AT ME?! (b. katt, 7/14/03)

Some notes to point out: Blue Spring Park is located at 230 Wagner Street (for you mapquest.com folks) in Boalsburg, PA 16827. DOGS ARE ALLOWED IN THE PARK!! However, they must be on a leash at all times and the leash must not be more than 6' long. And, I shouldn't have to add this, you must immediately clean up after your dog. So, when they're done with the potato salad, that plate and fork go INSTANTLY into the trash can. Don't make me tell you twice. "A Pavilion Reservation Permit doe NOT reserve or entitle the group to exclusive use of tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, or play areas." We must remember to share. "...no fires shall be set in any park..." So don't get any ideas, folks. Ode to a Pigeon: Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, You Lookin' at Me? YOU LOOKIN' AT ME?! (b. katt, 7/14/03)
