  1. "The cache I have the coordinates to is NOT listed at Geocaching.com. So why put it in another cache??? " Congrats! You've found a *bonus* cache! A seperate cache that's not known to anyone but the person who finds the FIRST cache! At least, that's what I'm guessing happened. Why would someone do this? Maybe because they thought others would enjoy a hunt that wasn't blessed by gc.com?? I set out FindersKeepers: one time caches for the first person to get the coords. Folks seem to like them. Sorry you had a bad experience with a bonus cache.
  2. Anyone have any suggestions for puzzles or hiding strategies for an event? Don't post them here (the participants will be tipped off), email me instead. I've roped a couple other cachers into helping me with a February event. We've got a few ideas but can always use more! Thanks!
  3. The events I host simply would not be possible without the generous help of many cachers. I think it's only right that they should get a smiley face for owning the event: they put in as much work as I do (and sometimes more!) Act casual, say nothing.
  4. Hm! So are the moderators sanitizing this thread, or is it the participants themselves? Act casual, say nothing.
  5. Please may we have an option to not have our photos automatically display in our profiles? Act casual, say nothing.
  6. why would you turn around and head back home when there are so many cool caches here?? Act casual, say nothing.
  7. Just a heads up for this event. See ya there!
  8. WTG NJSKI!!!! Keep on cachin'! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid={AB6F7615-447C-49F0-A44C-36CE1ECA47CF}
  9. Thank you guys for rededicating the cache with me!! I had a great time-- it was a cool crew! AND we had 2 Old Snakes greet us when we came back, that was great. Ce'Nedra asked me why the cache hadn't been logged yet at 1 am. My guess is none of us were home yet! Thanks again: that was the best Halloween I've had in a long time! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid={AB6F7615-447C-49F0-A44C-36CE1ECA47CF}
  10. This Friday will see the second debut of my night cache, Will o' the Wisp. I'll be at the starting point shortly after dark: anyone who completes the cache that night will get a special goodie bag! Go here for more details. Boo! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid={AB6F7615-447C-49F0-A44C-36CE1ECA47CF}
  11. This is really annoying. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid={AB6F7615-447C-49F0-A44C-36CE1ECA47CF}
  12. quote: I think part of the reason for their popularity is becuase they don't require a lot of thought, effort, or maintenance. ExCUSE me??? I put a great DEAL of thought, effort and maintenance into my Teeny-Weeny Meanie Micros. Not all traditionals are great caches and not all micros suck. Let's be a little more discriminating, hm? Oh, and "If you see a micro where you think a traditional cache belongs, consider asking the owner to archive or modify his so that one of you (or both collaborattively) can put a traditional there" has to be the epitome of arrogance. Let's just ask them to go out and put better goodies in the cache while we're at it. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid={AB6F7615-447C-49F0-A44C-36CE1ECA47CF}
  13. Good lord! Half a K already!? Whaddya wanna bet they'll have a thousand by Christmas?? Congrats! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid={AB6F7615-447C-49F0-A44C-36CE1ECA47CF}
  14. The Creators of the Elementals, the MVPs of the Central Pennsylvania Geocaching Scavenger Hunt, the Sweeties of Centre County caching have gained their Centuries!! Congrats to you two! You have brought wonderful caches to our region and ushered them in with a loving and delightful spirit! Congratulations and THANK YOU!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid={AB6F7615-447C-49F0-A44C-36CE1ECA47CF}
  15. They're all out playing! I've also been considering a Bike Rally: timed finding of caches. Would like to have an ammo can toss someday. I'm considering adapting the game of Clue to an event cache. And I know brdad in Maine has a Battleship cache. Perhaps something more subjective? Best camo for a cache? Most creative cache page? Lamest clue EVER? What were you looking for?? http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid={AB6F7615-447C-49F0-A44C-36CE1ECA47CF}
  16. Oooo! That sounds like fun!! May I recommend changing the radius to 30 miles?? And maybe if you finish up your cache early and someone else finishes THEIRS early, you could switch coords and seek theirs... When were you thinking of doing this?? http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid={AB6F7615-447C-49F0-A44C-36CE1ECA47CF}
  17. Walking on coals... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid={AB6F7615-447C-49F0-A44C-36CE1ECA47CF}
  18. Often when I'm in my cache page and then go to a cache, when I try to come back it takes me to the "you are logged in as" page. If I try to go to "My Cache Page" the current page just refreshes. Sometimes I can come back to My Cache Page after going elsewhere on the site and other times I have to log in again. Has this been mentioned before? Is it a gc.com bug?? -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Wearer of duplicative protective headgear.
  19. quote:Originally posted by Marky:The only way that this would/could happen is if there were new icons for the following: + Traditional/Micro + Traditional/Regular + Traditional/Large + Multi-Stage/Micro + Multi-Stage/Regular + Multi-Stage/Large + Puzzle/Micro + Puzzle/Regular + Puzzle/Large + Letterbox/Micro + Letterbox/Regular + Letterbox/Large Actually, it points out another idea: clothes have S/M/L designations, why not caches? It doesn't have to entail a whole new set of icons, just smack an S, M or L next to the cache type icon. And, knowing the size of container does effect how you look for the darn thing. I won't bother to look for M/L containers underneath the narrow beam on the bridge, for instance. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Wearer of duplicative protective headgear.
  20. I have a TB in my virtual cache right now. I put it there. The TB had a non-cache destination so after I delivered him to the site, I still had the electronic record and nowhere to leave it... Until the owners care to collect him, he's sitting in my virtual. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Wearer of duplicative protective headgear.

  22. quote: We simply want to preserve the spirit of an open, interactive discussion without offending participants. This means that we (Groundspeak and the volunteers for Groundspeak) reserve the right to edit/remove inappropriate messages, or to lock a discussion thread. Before taking any of these actions, a moderator will attempt to steer the discussion back to the topic, if this is possible and appropriate. Keystone, I have no concerns about your ability as both an approver and a moderator. I have seen several instances of both in which you have been fair, discreet and diplomatic. I am concerned, however, about a minority of moderators who find it easier to delete a post than to suggest respectfully that the conversation be brought back on topic, or who fall back into sarcasm (no doubt worn out by the same old arguments and bickering) just at the time they should either be disengaging from the topic or putting it back on track. For myself, I do not find this new moderation to be reassuring. It makes me question everything I say and although that may be a good thing in some people's eys I don't think I was one to mindlessly post just for the sake of posting. I am also concerned about the dual Approver/Moderator role. I feel a wedge growing between gc.com and cachers and the approver/moderator role becoming one of defense, not facility. Furthermore, if a cacher ticks off a moderator, where is the assurance that that cacher's caches will not keep falling to the bottom of the approval queue? I don't feel that concern here in PA but perhaps others do across the country. Should not the moderator and approver role be seperated? I am still uneasy about the tone in the general forum...
  23. ... in an indirect way. "You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this BB to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this BB. You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless this BB, Madrona Park, Inc. (the makers of the bulletin board software), and their agents with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s)." This never used to worry me before but now that posts are getting deleted, I'm concerned about self-censorship. I find myself thinking twice about replying to posts and often not replying at all, concerned that I'm going to **** a moderator off. I've also noticed a topic shut down in one forum b/c the forum it was in wasn't the place to discuss policy... but the thread didn't seem that off-topic to me... I'm getting confused about what is accepted and what isn't and going by the rules posted above it looks like many of my posts have been in violation of the code. I understand there is a handful of posters who create problems for gc.com but the recent smack-down is causing folks like me (not a problem poster??) to shut up for fear of being punished. Am I the only one feeling this way? -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Wearer of duplicative protective headgear.
  24. ...and although there is some space to list other cachers who have helped, there isn't nearly enough room to list the 6 cachers I felt deserved full credit for my latest event. I know: I tried. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Wearer of duplicative protective headgear.
  25. hmmm. You tempt me strangely, iBrew! I was considering this one for my 100th but was disappointed with the lack of information available beforehand... What kind of a time frame were you looking at? And do you rock climb? Got any ropes?? -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Wearer of duplicative protective headgear.
