  1. Kidding aside, I personally wouldn't invest any time or money on a five or ten dollar cache. My caches are faily remote odds are greater that they may be burned in a brush fire than looted.I'm not going to fireproof them either. If its some morons idea of fun remove them and wait awhile he'll move on or be killed when he decides that doing a jackass video is more fun....icon_smile.gif

  3. I no longer do caches that are to close to homes or near private property. I like the secluded ones best. They're plenty of good ones out there. Personally I shy away from the ones that entrude

on people. I,ve seen some stupid placements and they're the ones that don't last...My 2¢..

  4. BUT!! In some areas that should be protected the land managers lea$e to cattlemen at just pennies per acre. Cattle wreak havoc on the land, streams and lakes. Hikers and campers don't bury their body waste. Stained t.paper blowing in the wind.

Even the local critters leave trails as they go about their daily lives. My caches will read "tread lightly". Pack trash out please...We can make it known that we as tax payers can make this a sport that cares about the environment.

  5. I hope you don't look like a bear. I heard a story about a guy who rolled his truck off the road. He had a broken leg and as he crawled back up to the road a hunter saw this bearded guy to be a bear and shot him from long distance. The hunter thought he shot a bear until he went to bag his kill. Luckily he only winged him. Since your'e new to this I suggest you stay in town and get a few under your belt before going outdoors. Wear blaze orange and make human noises ie. Boom box or play a bangio while out caching during the open season.

    Hope this helps..

  6. Jenn, what gps are they using and how are the coords set. You found three with the M 315, if so how close were you to the cache each time. Check your gps version you should get v.3.15 if you do'nt already. Always check to see how many sats. are displayed at a given moment. My 315 works on cloudy days and in the woods you have to hold it high above your head for best results. Hope this helps. PS do a search here on the update to v.3.15

    topic..Best of luck to you...

  8. Great choice, You may want to check the operating firmware to see if you have the latest ver. 3.15

You can do a search on this subject here for more info. on the v.3.15 update it is worth the time to update it. To find out which version you have you turn on the unit and press enter quickly look at the version on the next page before it swiches to the sat page, it will be breif (read it quick).

    Have fun..Be safe.

  9. I always thought Tonto means dumb xhit and Kimosabe means "knows it all" but really he's just as stupid.

Don't mind us we mean well.Welcome NJ_Tonto, Geocaching can be fun and if you go with your cousin or a friend you can see for yourself what to look for in a GPS. I have a Magellan 315 and its been good unit, I wish I would have bought the 330 as it to was also on sale. When you are ready to buy be sure that it is the one you want. Even if you have to save up to get the next one up it will be worth the wait. Although you can always sell the unit and get most of your money back they keep their value fairly well. Best of luck to you and keep safe....
