  1. I'm from the Isle of Wight, although I now live in South Wales. I've done a few of the IoW caches, as I try to get back there to visit family a few times in a year... Simon
  2. As a fellow caulkhead, I'm definitely interested in this... Simon
  3. Mission successful! And, we left a geocoin in there as an incentive for someone else to go visit it. Lovely views, and very easy to get to, so I'm surprised it hadn't been found for more than 6 months... Simon
  4. Assuming the sun stays out, I'll be taking a colleague who wants to get back into caching out to find Merythr Marathon 9 - looks like it should be an easy lunchtime find. Simon
  5. Okay then... Boz is an author better known by which name?
  6. They're all on the same Latitude (approx 40 deg N) ? Simon
  7. I did a multi a couple of weeks ago which was about 14 stages, and it was all just one cache. The clues took you around the Museum of Welsh Life, which is a big outdoor museum. Took a couple of hours to get around all the clues, and the cache was located in one of the buildings. Worked really well, and was enjoyable to do. However, if the stages of the multi are quite a walk apart, and it could take more than one trip to do them all, then it's fair to split them into more than one cache entry - you don't have to go as far as 13 seperates, but could split it into 4 - perhaps where each of the 4 can be done independently, but you need the answers from all four caches to find the final. Simon
  8. Looks like some sort of frame they'd use to protect the turf... Simon
  9. "But the area was declared safe when the object turned out to be a global positioning system (GPS) device used in a game of treasure hunt." Someone is hiding GPS receivers in their caches? Wow, I need to do more caching in Peterborough
  10. I've got one of those in my collection - they're not gc.com trackable. Simon
  11. So, having bought myself a shiny new dSLR camera for Christmas, I've started reading a few photography mags. I was most surprised to see a cache spoiler pic published in one of them this week! http://www.slimey.org/pics/geocaching/scan...001.jpg?scale=l Anyone recognise it? Simon
  12. No, but my mother-in-law did give me a lunchbox full of tat (and a hand-drawn TB Tag!) as a pressie. Apparently she kept phoning my wife to ask what she should put in it S
  13. Grumble grumble... So, I turned up at the sports centre on Sunday morning, GPS in hand, and asked how I go about doing the Geo Cache. Puzzled look from staff, who can't find it on their computer screen, so grab the book listing all the activities. I quickly explain that it's not in the book yet, it's a new activity. 'Oh', they say, and pick up the phone to someone. "Where on the computer screen do I find Geo Catching?" Anyway, it turns out they only do it on Saturdays. Bah humbug.
  14. Oooh, it's time to dust off last year's avatar? For some reason I don't feature in the montage above...
  15. We always go as a family for a weekend break at Centerparcs, just before Christmas. This week, we got the pre-booking and activities leaflets. I was very surprised to see... Geo Cache Test your navigational skills on our high tech treasure hunt Using a global positioning system (GPS) and a map, you will have to navigate your way around the Village collecting a password as you go. There will be a prize for the first team or individual to complete the course Entry fee: £10.00 Per person or team (up to 4 in a team) A £30 returnable deposit will be payable for the use of the GPS I wonder if they'll have any information about geocaching.com for those people who take part. We'll be doing it as a family - my son even sounds keen on doing it, which is better than normal
  16. There's not a physical cache on the Severn bridge, but there's the first stage of a multi... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...02-4bcc48831204 Simon
  17. If there's a set still available, I'd like a set, please? Simon
  18. Hmmm.... I can't make 305 fit, but there's an obvious pattern in the rest of the numbers, which I think would make the first number 11. If that's the right answer, I'd expect it to be 209 then 335, instead of 305 Of course, I'm probably totally wrong Simon
  19. There's talk of hiring a big gennie if lots of people want leccie for the big event...
  20. well, having chatted to a few people on geochat, it looks like the shrops event is planning to be at exactly the same campsite that I was going to do one at. well, that's definitely a recommendation for that campsite... I'll hold off and see how the shrops planning goes (well, I'll also help with that....) S
  21. While we're on the subject of pre-booking camping weekends, would anyone be interested in a camping weekend the week after spring bank holiday next year? I know a lovely campsite on the Isle of Purbeck, near Swanage, with a shed load of caches nearby, and would like to run an event from there. Unfortunately, there's no electric hookups at this campsite... (if lack of electric, plus earlier in the season is going to be a problem, do say so, and we can think about doing it a bit later in the year, but I know the campsite gets very booked up over the summer, so avoiding high season would be good) I'm not physically close to the location, although I'm more than happy to arrange the campsite, etc - would just need some local help with setting a few event caches - but I know there's a few regular cachers from that way... Simon
  22. reading over him indoors shoulder. Never placed a cache in my life, or organised anything as exotic as a cache bash. However I am the poor bedraggled soul in an all weather jacket trying to coax two knackered preschoolers they really do want to walk another mile through a field of scary bullocks because Daddy really has nearly found it this time. That the last four miles of bog trekking were 'fun' and just think no one else will be able to write anything this character building in news on Monday....... All up the women I say MrsSlimey
