  1. Hehe... My 6 year old (Andy) reads Bay Area Parent every month and he hadn't even noticed the geocaching article when he brought this issue home yesterday. He was delighted to see the article but he thought it was about a geocaching EVENT of some kind and he wanted to go. Anyway, nicely done....
  2. Okay, in fairness, that was an April Fool's joke all right (darn you, Dru!!!). But here's our real news: Wedding That's the text that will be on the event cache page when it is approved. We can't get it approved for now because it's more than 90 days in advance. But there you go.
  3. We were waiting to make the announcement til we could make sure everything is o.k. with the baby. The boyz are very excited about "their" new baby!
  4. Okay, who put food in this cache? For shame!!!
  5. Stop that, now you are just going to make Dave miss Oregon.
  6. Hey, I don't remember having the opportunity to vote in that popularity contest!!
  7. El Diablo... I have seen Marky's staff and it is a thing of beauty. Ever since then I have wanted to own one but I can't afford it. I'm a single mom and I cache with my two sons (8 and 6). Today we got to #300 (hey, it only took 2 years but what can you expect when you cache with kids!). I think a walking stick would definitely help me keep up with them on the trail and I would be eternally grateful as well. xo,
  8. How could I have JUST found this thread!? I would love to do this. Would prefer to trade just contents to save on the shipping and intrusive customs inspections. I live in San Jose, California and these are our sister cities: Dublin, Ireland Ekaterinburg, Russia Okayama, Japan Pune, India San Jose, Costa Rica Veracruz, Mexico Tainan City, Taiwan Of course I'm flexible so I'd be willing to trade with other countries or cities in these same countries or what have you. Also, I work for the City of San Jose so I can dig up all kinds of unique stuff. If interested, please email me through geocaching.com.
  9. Well, I like TeamSpaz's idea. I've frankly been frustrated in my attempts (well, attempt, last year) to plan a CITO event around here. There were maybe three people who showed some mild interest but nobody said they'd come or had any suggestions for what area to clean up. If there is an EBRPD area that we can work on, that sounds good too. As I've mentioned before, I work for the City of San Jose, and if we clean a park or roadside area here, we can get litter grabbing sticks, bags, and other stuff provided gratis from the City. On April 24th the City of San Jose is even sponsoring the Great American Litter Pick Up in various "litter hot spots" throughout San Jose's 10 Council districts. At least Spaz is willing to come up with an idea.
  10. I haven't cached with others (besides Nurse Dave, of course) in a long time. And that was Jay, Caine & Becca. What ever happened to them!? Lately we've managed to get out and cache sans kids a few times, and it's been really refreshing. I'd love to cache with others, if ND is up to it...
  11. Well, I can't speak for Marty, but I think he's cut way back on his caching due to health problems. I wish I knew what happened to Marwagsalot. I did adopt one of her caches (Britdog's Frisbee Spot) and I know Nostrada adopted at least one other one. I miss that dog and her wit and wisdom. Emails to her bounce back, too.
  12. My boys and I have found a lot of good ones lately. If Monty the Mule reactivates the San Andreas Fault cache, I'd recommend that one. My boys loved exploring there. If you look at the caches I have found, you'll see a lot of good ones for doing with kids. My boys really enjoy Team Jiffy's planet series (even though they aren't in ammo boxes, hehe) and the light rail ones too.
  13. Hehe... Why do you think the terrain rating is so high?? (Actually, there are other reasons too.) At least you've been warned!
  14. I work in city government too (specifically the City of San Jose) and I think that we have a good background to come from in terms of helping to deal with EBRPD. I look forward to helping to work this out, however I am needed.
  15. One more of me... It's SO 80s that I couldn't resist (legwarmers, headband...). Let's see, circa 1981-2 or so.
  16. How about this one... My senior ball pic... (I'm the one on the left.)
  17. So is this type allowed? I would love to put one of these around here. Hemlock, are you reading this thread?
  18. It's definitely possible. Tho I didn't meet him on the trails... Met him in the geocaching IRC channel...
  19. There's a well-known cacher here who has a puzzle cache that's a pen with a tiny rolled up paper in it. Lots of people have almost picked up the pen as a "bonus" to take home before realizing it was a cache!
  20. I am a family cacher and part of a caching couple. I rarely cache alone. Last year I did spend my birthday caching by myself, which was a nice change, but I actually missed my kids. Lots of the locals here cache in groups but they have never invited me. Maybe it's because of the kids. I have cached with one or two other cachers a couple of times but it's rare. Well... I think it's most of the things you listed, really. I needed a good activity to do with the kids that got us outdoors and away from the TV. A male friend of mine and his wife had recently started caching and we picked it up from them, and took off with it! (They don't even cache anymore!) Gotta admit that I'm pretty into the numbers, though not fanatically. My finds are in the 270s, nothing astounding, but I definitely do keep track of my numbers. My fiance, Nurse Dave, just got to #500 today. I know I am never going to catch up with him! But I can't help trying.
  21. Well, perhaps I am biased, but I am pretty tired of micros. I will hunt for them but I prefer the big caches, and so do my kids. We like to trade stuff and read the log books! I used to use Watcher to filter out micros but I was missing a lot of interesting micro hides. If I could have, I would have made all of my library series caches large-sized, but there just isn't anywhere to hide them at the libraries. There are PLENTY of parks in San Jose without any caches at all in them... THAT's where the new BIG caches should go!!!
  22. I sent written (not email) letters to the members of the Board of Directors, General Manager, and Park Advisory Committee yesterday. My letters were positive, laying out information such as 1) Caches are not buried and 2) Cachers are nature-loving, non-destructive types. I pointed out that geocaching is a family-oriented activity that is not harmful to the environment and in fact brings more people to the parks and trails of the area. I also asked for more information about the no geocaching policy. I think more letters like this (educational and not argumentative) are what they need to see. Anyone joining me?
  23. I just found this page that lists the names and email addresses of the board members for EBRPD: http://www.ebparks.org/district/board.htm Perhaps we could start a letter-writing campaign? No abusive language... Just some hard facts about geocaching, etc.
