Maybe we need a "That's Outrageous" section here. MrGigabyte, if you're sincere in your apology, then I hope you will be deleting all the phony logs. That, at least, can be done quickly, which is more than I can say for the damage to your reputation. (I have this image of Gomer Pyle shaking his finger saying, "Fer shame, fer shame, fer shame!)

I just wanted to put in here... Yesterday while I was looking up all of his logs, I noticed his found number shrink from 154 to 140. Either he was, or the cache owners were, deleting his logs. I hope all of them are gone so we do not have to think about it anymore. I am disappointed that this puts locationless caches in a poor light. I hope we can get past it.

  2. I am finding more and more that look fake. Some that don't even have pictures.

I have talked to this guy in chat and frankly, I'm shocked.

  3. Well, my Nanook bug is stuck in a cache that hasn't been visited sine it was placed there. It's got sort of a high difficulty, but as my bug has made it from San Jose, California, to Australia... I'm not complaining. But then, Nanook is not in a race, either.

  5. Okay, I'll leave my answer, but I think (pointed out by Fuzzy) that my answer doesn't really answer the question. So nevermind.

Sometimes bugs are handed off between people, I mean not grabbed from a cache, and therefore it wouldn't show a cache name. This has happened with several bugs I've grabbed and handed off.

For instance, when I gave Shannah's Bearista to mrp, it shows that he "grabbed" it, just as I had grabbed it from Eug previously. But when Eug got it from Evil Empire, it showed that he took it from the cache.

Does that explain it at all?

  6. A ton of forum addicts visited the #geocache IRC channel while they fora were gone. Wish ya'all would visit more often!

Maybe I'm a little dim, but, what's a "striper"? Do you mean "stripper"? If so, spill the beans! icon_smile.gif

  9. Embi you know that I've been thinking about you guys through all of this. I feel like I've gotten to know Bec better through the beautiful things you say about her. We Californian cachers send you our love.

  10. Definitely another good idea, along with my send-the-goals-with-the-bugs idea from earlier this month.

Hope Jeremy takes the idea and runs with it (in all of his *cough* spare time!).

Cachin' with kidlets is truly an art.

  11. I recently acquired Shannah's Bearista from another cacher (Eug). She had a fairly specific goal of going to Maryland, possibly way of Oregon. I did hand her off to another cacher (mrp) who lives closer to Oregon than I do. This bug came to me in a Zip-Loc bag. I added a print-out of the first page of her page from geocaching.com that explained her goal. That way people don't even have to look at the site to know whether they can move her along in the right direction. While it's probably not new, I thought this was a great idea, and so I pass it on. icon_smile.gif

  13. I like the idea of taking a bunch of bugs on a trip, but as someone already said, I think it's very important to check a bug's goals before potentially taking it very far away.

Incorporating what someone else said, I don't know if I agree that the point of a bug is to move it in small jumps. It all depends on the bug's goals. If it, like so many, has only a goal to move around a lot, why not take it on a plane?

However, if a bug has a specific goal to visit long distances, why not help out? My Nanook bug wants to go to all of the continents. Kablooey grabbed it out of a local cache and mailed it to Embi in Australia. I have no problem with this. Once Nanook is placed in a cache, he sure will have racked up lots of miles!

It all comes down to checking the goal of a bug before grabbing and/or moving it long distances.

  14. I personally do not think it's very courteous to grab a travel bug unless you have something in mind to do with it that is going to happen within the next couple of weeks, perhaps. Otherwise -- let someone else get it!

One thing I do try to do it pass a bug on to someone who is going to a farther away cache, if I'm not going to be able to move it myself. They can log it as "grabbed it".

Someone has had one of my bugs (Spangle) since the middle of June and failed to log it at all. That really pisses me off. I am going to visit the cache it was taken from (and is still shown as being) and see what's going on. What a lot of trouble for nothing... Someone could have logged it and saved all this hassle. Or perhaps, being a bear beanie baby, he has been stolen...

  15. How does one adopt a cache? We have a situation here in the south SF bay area where a cacher is moving across the country and has asked another cacher to adopt her cache. Can he actually take it over, or ? How does that work? It'll still be under the first cacher's name, right?

  16. I think whether you like them or not depends on your sense of humor. I wouldn't say that someone who finds them stupid is devoid of a sense of humor. It's just not their thing.

I personally have met the person behind Mitsuko (he wishes!). I think he had his fun and accomplished what he set out to do.

If you don't like them, ignore them. Giving them attention, negative or positive, is just what they want.

  17. "See the Lake" cache is there, for sure. Contrary to what someone said, there isn't a water park there. Not sure where that idea came from. Unless it's some very, very new development, because I've been there within the past few months and there was no water park.

There is a train and carousel that run out of the adjoining Oak Meadow Park. And tons of grass to run around on and boats to rent.

The kids and I will be there. We'll bring stuff for a new cache if we'll be planting one.

Disappointed that Iron Chef and Kablooey will not be there, but then, I've met them before!

I will offer any help I can do; the schedule is rather busy but I'll do what I can.

    Becky
