  1. Jeremy hasn't replied. Not a good sign.
  2. How it's going. No word for over a month... I'm sure there are several of us willing to vonlunteer to beta-test the Pocket Query results in GPX format.
  3. I have a couple of ideas: Geodesic Ellipsoid Ephemeris Azimuth Or how about Venture?
  4. I was looking at caches above Oakdale today, planning our Big Adventure for next week, and I saw a couple by tomaski, but I haven't seen him around here... Did he just get bored with geocaching?
  5. For just such occasions, George! By the way, I've updated the spreadsheet program so it now sucks down your hidden caches, too. Cool, huh?

Maybe you would have had better luck on Diogenes. Feel free anytime! We're going to go again next Monday. Probably out 120 past Oakdale, though I think you've gotten all there are to get out there already. Maybe we should do a Patterson run sometime soon. And yes, you would certainly have been a big help at Diogenes, seeing as how you have already found it. Actually, given your skill, we would probably have had better luck all around.
  7. quote:Originally posted by bigredmed:Any idea if this is possible with a Cannon Elph or Casio? The Canon cameras come with features to ease the creation of panoramas, and the software to stitch the photos together.
  8. quote:Originally posted by Zuckerruebensirup: Can someone refresh me on why we're not ready for a vote? We will NEVER come up with a logo that EVERYONE likes. That's why the democratic voting process was invented. Gee, I don't know. Maybe the fact that this whole logo thing is only about a week old might have something to do with it. Maybe the fact that several people have expressed valid concerns about the Gx logo might have something to do with it, too. And your comments about the "democratic process" are insulting to those of us who actually believe in a democratic process. What do they teach in the schools in Michigan, anyway?
  9. Make it a little harder. Those are more fun.
  10. I like it better. It retains the flavor of the original without the weird overtones. Great job, Noel!
  11. It's quiet.... Too quiet. Wow, George, you've been busy. Need an update to your spreadsheet?
  12. quote:Originally posted by Green Achers:While I was at Hot and Cold, I noticed that the log had Fizzy as the FTF... signed with grass! Way to go in a pinch, Fizzy! I inked in his log below his "penmenship" so that after the grass fades, his entry will remain. Thanks, Bill. I appreciate the addition of the permanent log! I wasn't about to walk all the way back to Black Box, and I couldn't find anything burned nearby, so I crushed some leaves and made do. I've done the charcoal thing once, too. Now I try to remember to always bring a pen with me.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Rich in NEPA:Certainly, if I'm the only one that sees it this way, then there's no problem, right?! You're not the only one who sees religious symbolism in the Gx design. I do, too. I am torn, though, because although I like the basic concept, I have to admit that this symbol is not one that says "outdoor fun" to someone previously unfamiliar with it. There are several minor modifications that could remove the quasi-religious overtones. Letherman's original alternative, with the 'X' entirely separated from the 'G', is a good example. Another would be the use of curved lines to form the 'X'. I think we should encourage more discussion about these issues before accepting the logo unconditionally.
  14. I just got back from my trip to Holland. Did some very fun caching there! I though you folks might appreciate this cache, which is called "Lang Parkeren?", which means "Long Term Parking?" It's a car that got apparently got so many parking tickets that the owner cut off the roof and turned it into a garden. Right in the middle of Amsterdam! Here's a picture: The parking tickets are displayed under the plexiglas on the hood. Can you guess where the cache is? Took me 2 tries.
  15. Hey, everyone! I've been having a fun time caching in Holland. I fly back tomorrow. There is one cache in Amsterdam that is the epitome of Ron's "Valet" series. I'll post a picture when I get back.
  16. This issue (and many more) will be resolved when the results of Pocket Queries get returned as GPX files. I have a whole set of scripts just waiting for them to arrive. I will rename my waypoints in a manner similar to what is proposed in this thread: GC for caches, GL for locationless, GV for virtual, etc. In addition, I already generate meaningful comments using the cache name, unlike the ridiculous thing EasyGPS does where it takes out the vowels. When GPX files arrive, I'll be able to include the date the cache was last found in the comment, too, so it will be in the GPS. And, of course, we'll be able to generate our own Palm pages so we don't have to use MobiPocket. Jeremy has recently said that the GPX upgrade is more than 90% complete, so I am quite hopeful that it will get rolled out this month.

  18. Well, folks, I'm off to the Netherlands for a week. I hope to find at least a few caches while I'm there. It might be a new challenge since many of the cache descriptions are in Dutch, which I do not speak. At any rate, I'll bring back a few style points, and give a couple of travel bugs a whole lot more mileage! With any luck, I'll find a travel bug there and bring it back, too! Have fun!
  19. quote:Originally posted by threx:Which geocaches are more enjoyable for you, the scenic easy one or that frustrating, climbing-that-30° hill hunt? Neither. The most enjoyable geocaches for me are those with a lot of style. Clever, original caches. Go find Stumped? and you'll understand better.
  20. No, National Parks are off-limits to caches, not National Forests.
  21. quote:Originally posted by Marty Fouts: quote:Originally posted by fizzymagic:So who is "Chob?" Eric O'Conner, he of "mitsuko" fame. That would have been my guess. Sadly, I've never met him, although I've done a couple of his caches. Mostly, all I know is that he doesn't much care for Jeremy.
  22. She deserves congratulations; she did some hard ones for her last few. And JimSwim passed 150 today, too.
  23. What I want to know is why the Stats Pages don't include Members Only caches.
  24. Believe me, Ron, we had the Right Tool today. In fact, we got the Right Tool all tangled up in the rocks!
