Still having an issue seeing caches? If so, on the main screen, with Map selected on the bottom, at the top is a filter icon that looks like a funnel. Is that filter icon clear (green) or filled in and white? Click on it and press Reset in the top right an then Apply at the bottom. If you zoom out a bit, are you seeing any caches - found, not found, etc?

If you still aren't seeing caches, if you go to the More screen (right bottom icon) and then press Sign out and then Sign back in, is anything improved?

Just had an issue where after loading a cache from an email link and then returning to the main map screen no geocaches would load resulting in a blank map.

Resetting the filter, which toggled hide my finds to off, brought everything back.

  2. It's shocking that this fundamental problem still hasn't been addressed. Posted videos of the refresh rate between the 2 apps last year and it was obvious that the new app has issues.

Fortunately (it seems) my android device died and now using an iPhone, the new iOS app is spot on with the refresh rate.

  3. What was the interval rate for the Geocaching Classic app? My videos clearly demonstrate that the classic app is far superior in this respect to the new app.

When walking the classic app blue dot would smoothly glide to movement but the new app is jerky and not as accurate.

For reference Google Maps behaves as smooth as the Geocaching Classic app so it's not a phone problem.

  4. Hi, I'm finding the blue GPS position dot a lot slower in the new app compared to the old app. Especially when in a car you (as a passenger) you can often pass the cache as the phone hasn't caught up.

Couple of vids of the issue.

    Old app: Old app

    New app: New app

Can some tweaks be made to make it the same as the old app? It was so much better.

    Thanks :)

  5. Noticed that some log photos are now refusing to load in 3.2 when viewing them from the recent activity list with the message "image could not be downloaded" being displayed.

Moto Defy+ on Gingerbread using cache GC4X2N9 as an example.

The same cache on iOS however displays all the photos properly as does the website.

    Any other users getting this?

  6. Had a chance to check v3.1 of the app out on my Motorola Defy+ and my dads HTC Desire S phones on a 39 cache circuit today.

Vast improvement on GPS response. Locked to my location straight away, the distance to cache counted down quickly and the my location blue dot moved properly with my movement. Big thumbs up on this one as the previous version was ghastly! Compass accurate and pointed in the correct direction all the time too :)

Photos, trackables and favourites are easily accessible too.

Just a couple of niggles though:

A few force close issues on both mobiles when posting logs. Tap on the post log arrow then after a few seconds a force close message appeared.

The buttons for Send Later and Post log are too close together for my liking. Easy to tap the wrong button.

I saved the caches as an offline list and viewed them in map mode and list mode on the way round. In list mode all the found caches had smilies attached to them but in map mode none did until I exited to the main menu and then back into offline lists again.

    Keep the improvements coming!

    Thanks, Ozz

  7. Still having to manually scroll the map to keep up with the my location dot

Its much better to keep the dot in the screen centre with the map refreshing with movement like the old app did and what the iOS app still does.

Are you referring to the map showing nearby caches, or the map seen when navigating to a particular cache?

If the former, keep in mind that the map is not a moving map - it will not refresh the caches as you move (either on the iPhone app or the Android app). If the latter, the map should be autozooming as you approach the cache to keep both your current position and the cache position in view.

I don't mean to speak for OZZ, but I think what is meant is when you have the map up, the map does not move with your location, not that new caches don't show up.

If you pull up the map and you drive along for a spell and then look at the map, it has not moved and you have to scroll the map until you find your location represented by the little blue dot. Having the map move and keep your location in the center would be ideal. Then to find new caches, just hit the "search here" button instead of having to "find yourself" first.

That's correct, that's what the old android app did and what the iOS app still does

OK, after selecting a cache from the list, press the "navigate" arrow and wait for the GPS to lock. Tap the android soft menu button and tap the My Location button (Circle with dot in middle with marks at NSEW). The map will then zoom in to your location with the blue dot in the centre of the screen. Now here lies the problem, with the old android app and with the current iOS app the blue dot should remain constantly in the centre of the screen with the map updating as you move. As you get closer to the cache the cache marker comes into view. The new android app doesn't do this, the map stays fixed and the blue dot moves off the screen and disappears which is a pain when your trying to navigate to a cache on a bike or as a passenger in a car, you end up missing it!!

A quick demonstration of how it should work is the default android Maps app, the flashing blue arrow remains in the centre of the screen at all times and the map moves as you travel.

    Hope this explains it!!

  8. Just bought an iPad mini and noticed that the Geocaching app doesn't look very good at all with blurry pixellated text.

At 1x resolution the app is displayed in a small box in the middle of the screen:

    photo4.jpg

At 2x resolution the app fills the screen but the image is now blurry and text breaks up:

    photo3.jpg

The compass screen is full of jagged edges too:

    photo5.jpg

Could the app team develop a specific iPad version? The iPhone version is not really suitable for the job which is a shame as every other app I have downloaded to it has an iPad specific version (in particular Viewranger which looks great on the iPad!).

    Many thanks, agentOZZ

  9. I too am having problems with it working on my ipad. Did the reboot and it worked for a couple of caches then quit again. Also when I did get the info bubble to show up and I clicked on the cache name, it would bounce over to some other place on the page or disappear altogether and I couldn't get it back. HELP!!!

Getting this on Android tablet too.

The bubble appears as normal but when tapping on the cache name the bubble whizzes over to a different part of the screen. Tapping on the cache name again brings up the cache page.

This didn't happen on the Pocket Query selection pre 13th March update.

    Thanks, Owen
