  1. Its looking good and thank you for spending so much time getting it back up and running!

However my personal preference would be to show 500 caches from the centre of the view, not 500 random caches.

I understand the need to restrict the view to 500 caches but the random nature doesn't help with looking at overall distribution which was its main strong point.

I've always thought of that as the main advantage over just viewing a PQ in GE. If I try to view 500 caches cantered on my home coordinates I'm only going to see a couple of miles represented. If I want an overview of a "day trip" radius this is the only choice. Then if I want more detail on an area I just zoom in and refresh the view.

  2. I've found a little bug with the GE KML you'll probably want to fix pretty quick. I'm using GE Mac version 5.0.11733.9347. After running my used views up to a dozen or so I'll go off and do something else leaving GE open. Returning to GE after a short time (5-6 min.) and panning the map, my used view count drops back down to 1. This happens every time.

It did the same thing on my XP machine earlier but I haven't been able to repeat it since.

Just did it again. Seems to be when I let it sit for a longer time than the 6 or 6 minutes.

  4. All three are adequate.

Logging is not a science, it's an art. Write what you are inspired to write. Some caches and some locations, and some experiences inspire me more than others. Then again some people seem to lack in the ability to be inspired.

  5. Thank you very much for the return of the KML, viewer, what ever you want to call it. I haven't played with it much yet but I did set it to refresh only on demand. Very happy with that. I think it should have done that before. It may have for all I know. Either way it makes the tool more flexible. Can't wait to play with it but I'm going to have to. Other things need doing first. :D

Anyway thanks for bringing this back.

  6. I am new to the sport and also new to the area so that means I go it alone. I really enjoy the peace and quiet. That said there are times I think it would be a lot of fun to go with a group just for laughs and company. Being retired can mean a lot of time alone.

Do a search for events in your area. You will meet a bunch of people who are interested in geocaching just like you. What's a better way to meet locals in your new home area?

I found this one by centering a PQ search on one of your finds.

    Countdown to 40.... The Event.

  7. After you submit a log a page comes up with the option to upload a picture. Or you can go to a cache page you have logged and click the link just below your log that says (upload an image for this log)

  8. Today I got my first cache! I was walking through a foresty area and was hacking down dead branches in my way (I got dirty... and a blister)...

Excuse me, but why were you 'hacking' down anything? Have you never heard the phrase 'leave no trace'? Did you tell the cache owner this? What if s/he wanted it to be a little more difficult to get to than just a 'stroll in the woods'?

Would you 'hack' away in a city park? Someone's front yard?

    Amazing...

I was just making a way to get through thick branches and what not. it was off the trail so who really cares? I didn't do any real damage so, once again, who cares? and the cache wasn't even in that area so the owner woudln't care. trust me it's not just a stroll in the woods. it was a really good spot to hide it. at least I thought it was. it was my first so I haven't found anymore to compaire to.

I have hacked at a tree in the park in TN when I was a kid with my best friend. it was fun ^^ and I run around in this field by my house with one oh my swords and pratice on these weird stalk things that grow back there. I think they are called milk weed? I dunno... but I do know they are poisnoious. oh and I'm very sorry to everone because I know I spelled a lot of stuff wrong... why is it that math and sicence is so easy but spelling kills me....

Look at it like this. What would the park look like if everyone who visited knocked down a couple of branches? It wouldn't be long and there would be no more branches.

  9. Write longer logs......

Use a computer with a larger screen.

    Increase your screen resolution.

    or....

Just hit your enter key after typing - no need to scroll and click. :P

I you want to do the enter key bit you better hit the "tab" key about four times first.

  10. So, do you have a lead on this yet?

I swear, I'm gonna "cream" you yet!! :D

You sound like you have an axe to sharpen ;)

OK OK I'll stop now... mercy!

Look, I just think you are missing the point here.

Missing the point?! Didn't you read the thread? They're missing the whole darn pencil for crying out loud!

It's like they were erased from existence.
