  1. Just the kind of cache owner that makes me want an ignore all caches by user x option. I understand the "If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything" idea sometimes you really need to say something not so nice. A cache that receives log after log of TFTC has had something said about it. The very best of caches always get the very best logs. On either side you sometimes get logs that defy the norm but even then those stand out for the aberration they are. Feedback and example are the only things we have to encourage an improvement in cache quality. Let's not take the edge off a tool.
  2. I'm reminded of genies and their spacial relation ship with the contained volumes of bottles.
  3. I'd be willing to bet that it isn't the users real name. That it is some left wing extremist nut or their kid. And that there are probably just as many right wing extremist nuts around as there are lefties. Screw the politics, let's geocache! By the way, if you have not figured it out GOF1 isn't my real name.
  4. Perhaps people could share the left over pizza and bond with him (we are assuming its a guy for some reason) until he agrees to donate his geocoin collection to charity. I hate it when people ignore perfectly reasonable stereotypes... If 95% of serial killers arrested happen to be men, it means either a) Men are usually serial killers or women are good at not getting caught... I'll go with (A).... It's been my experience that generally men behave in the manner that this "person" is behaving.. I think it's reasonable to assume that this is a guy. Um,men are usually serial killers? Seems like kind of an extreme assumption.
  5. Bittsen, I think the reason why you say that's wrong is because the exchange isn't even? If I do replace the cache I would replace it with a more durable container. You are correct and incorrect. Part of why I wouldn't replace the container is because the person who placed the container is supposed to be responsible for the cache. If they are not going to maintain it then it should be retired. This would allow someone who is more interested in the game to have a place to put a new cache. I believe that once you remove yourself from the game, either by closing your account or by not caring for your caches, you should remove all of the caches you placed. It's just an opinion. I agree with this! Even though earlier in the thread I said I once swapped out a better container for a seemingly long gone non-interested party. Hey, I said I wouldn't do it again, didn't I? Would you replace the can at "The Spot" if it started to leak?
  6. I know it should not need to be said but I will anyway. Take precautions if you start playing with these chemicals. Outside, eye and face protection, gloves, long sleeves and pants, no sandals, minimum. Do not mix things together unless you know exactly what is going to happen before you do it. An alternative way to promote rust is to attach it to your car and drive through a Buffalo winter.
  7. OK Nate, we took you up on it. We have a list of ideas here. Any of them sound interesting? Any of them even possible? Any chance we'll see any of them in the future?

Create a new icon. Lots of icon slaves out there that would pay to get it. I might be convinced to pony up a couple of extra bucks if I was given the option of keeping my find count private. But that is a different topic, forget I said anything.

Ah yes, the rumored v2.0. Anyone have any idea how that is going?

Define "all". In the 6 or so years coming to the site, I have had, other then announced scheduled maintenance, may be 4 or 5 times I have had a problem getting in. Other then one incident a couple weeks ago where it lasted about an hour, usually I simply just refresh or wait a couple minutes on each incident and get right in. And I am in almost, if not, daily. I won't go as far as to say it is absolutely not the site, however it is quite possible that there is an issue farther down the line that could affect users (even in different regions) that is causing the problem and is out of Groundspeaks control. As to comments about money being an issue, I don't think they are getting rich. nor to I think it is a cause here. Having said that, I think if they did decide they needed to do an increase, I think they could do significantly more that 10% and not really have that many leave as a result. Just a little more whining. All as in all of us who have mentioned having issues with the site. I have not logged every time I have an issue but I'll bet it is a couple of times a week. Not sure how long they last as I usually go on to other things and come back to it later. I find it hard to believe that of all the places I surf to on line that GC.com is the one that gives me the most trouble, 90 percent, and it not be site related.
  11. If you can't find it in the paint department at Wally World look in the hunting section. Or check out almost any hunting store.
  12. Great! Another one. My logging practices are going to change. Why does this have to be a contest? Its only a contest if YOU make it a contest. And yet I have been ranked, like a team in the sports pages. There is someone, someplace, comparing their finds to mine.

  14. I think implementing the wrong system can be detrimental to any attempt to get a decent system in place. GS is unlikely to spend the time and effort putting in place a system that works if there is something else out there that takes them no effort to implement and maintain. Oh - is GS planning on establishing a rating system? I hadn't heard that. Nothing I have read previously has indicated that was in the works. I guess I must have missed it. Could you point me to the thread where that is being discussed please? It has been talked about before, many times. You are just as likely to find it using the search function as I. As I recall the last time Jeremy posted on the subject he was leaning towards a system that allowed cachers to award stars to some set number of caches. Sort of voting for your favorite five. The idea was that the best caches in an area would get the most stars. I am not overly excited by that system either. I'd rather see a system where a cacher answers a few questions on a 1 to 5 scale. Accuracy, scenery, camouflage, location, over all quality. Then the system can return a list. "Others who rated this cache like you rated these other caches highly." No need to see a rating on the cache page and the odds of the system returning caches that you will enjoy is much higher than a simple 5 star rating. It could even be made to return recommendations for a selected area. "show me caches recommended for me near [postal code]". I have no idea how to make it work but I'm sure the programmer types can figure it out. I'm not certain that being 'talked about' means that there is something officially in the works. Maybe someone in the know could post more definitively on the issue. At this point it just sounds like speculation. As someone who supports people playing the game as they wish (within the guidelines of course) then I support people's ability to utilize GCVote if they want to. It doesn't detract from my game in any way, shape, or form. No one is forcing me (or anyone else) to use it. I still fail to see why this is such a big deal. You are welcome do do as you wish and I realize I don't have to use it. I fail to see the problem with discussing the pros and cons of the system. Go, use it to your hearts content. It still has some major short comings.
  15. ...Blinded Me With... Science folks. She blinded me with science! Us the periodic table to solve this one. Zip, Zilch, Zero, Nada To get the combination for the lock you need the answers to four questions. The answer to every one of them is...ZERO. I placed these puzzles during a rash of increasingly difficult puzzles that were being published in this area. I was trying make them as easy as possible while still being legitimately puzzles. Blinded me with turned out to be more difficult than I thought. I've received more requests for hints than for any other cache, and I have a couple of trick multi cache legs out there. So when that turned out to be more work than I figured it would I came up with the idea for Zip. No one has asked for a hint on that one.
  16. Yup, elitist. I only want to find the best caches. I only want to listen to the best songs. I only want to watch the best movies. I only want t read the best books. Edit to add I still don't think this rating system is the right one.

  18. I wish more cachers had that attitude. We have a number in our area with a thousand finds and not a single hide of their own. To me that's taking from the sport but not giving back anything. Good for you!! And yet there are those who hide many caches that I wish would stick to finding. If they can't maintain them it is just as well they don't hide them.
  19. I don't know why ANY cache deserves this "benefit". The audit log is far from accurate if you think it shows you who looked at your cache...there are many ways to see the details of a cache without visiting the cache page. It's just security theater. I've had caches listed as PMO before. The audit log never made me think the cache was any safer. It was interesting to see some of who was looking at the cache. Makes you wonder when you see someone from half way around the world was looking at your cache. Why that cache? How did they come across your listing? In the end though the log is useless past that mild bit of curiosity.
  20. Looking at that article I'd say someone in the area has a chance to do some seriously positive PR. These people are in need of help maintaining the cemeteries and a cito event could clean up and fix up a cemetery in a day. When life hands you lemons and all that.
  21. Not sure why but it is what it is. Perhaps someone from frog central could chime in with an answer?
