  1. Need to do maint on those MIA caches.

Summit registers are an existing social, traditional, and historical usage of container and logbook in our National Parks. Sure wish that would extend to geocaches.

The Whitney register is about the size of a hotel register book and it must get swapped out after a couple of months. The missing Langley register was probably one of those nice cast aluminum Sierra Club boxes that's usually bolted to rock. GCKRQX is on the To-Do list for next summer.

  2. Geocaching "tutorial" events in other areas - just this month Davis has "Back to School with RCGDS" and LA has "Computer Caching 101".

I know all of us Silicon Valley types disdain to read the manual and would need a nifty disguise to attend such a thing but can anyone 'fess up to attending this type of event? If so was it well attended and informative?

Hynr did the Davis tutorial before the RCGDS potluck. He is an academic department chair, and he knows his way around a podium and Powerpoint presentation. The content covered pocket queries, GSAK, and downloading to Delorme or Microsoft maps. Bueno!

  3. Goodness, you've already done _the_ hike, Ohlone. Coe is a very good suggestion. Back in the day, George of georegeandmary rode mtn bike extensively there; he mentioned Mississippi Lake. May be hot, and they have those pesky mountain lions. Skyline to the Sea trail is cooler right now. Way east, ChuGuy has some caches near Emigrant Wilderness; 20 miles in and out.

  4. We had a good time in Nashville!

Can't say enough good things about the weekend. Thanks for the invite, JoGPS! Met all the megacachers. Grabbed 185-190 in 17 hours of hunting, due to the heroic efforts of Mosestron and GrannyLani. 300 on the weekend gives me a backlog of 400 (!). It will give me a chance to rest my blown out kneecaps.

  5. All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go

I'm standin' here outside your door

I hate to wake you up to say goodbye

But the dawn is breakin', it's early morn

The taxi's waitin', he's blowin' his horn

Already I'm so cache hungry I could fly

So kiss me and smile for me

Tell me that you'll wait for me...

  6. I'll be in SFO from Georgia for the JavaOne convention this Sunday-Wednesday and plan to get in a few caches while I'm there.

My preferences are regular caches that involve some easy hikes (1.5-3) to get to and/or have a nice view for photography.

Have to pitch my Es Effo GCBC09 and Columba GCGH5J (print the pictures!). Can also highly recommend the Embarcadero waterfront, including Waterfront GCE731 and either of Frankenlurch's Sister Mary histories GCG8PV or GCJBBK (require stealth at final). Remember, you can hop the F-line historic trolleys from Market St to Fisherman's Wharf. Sounds by the Bay GC30CB has wonderful views of the GG Bridge. LooneyTune's WPA Lillie's GC136C has Coit Tower views and Depression Era art. The Twin Peaks triplet of GCCF74, GC46E4, and GC78A5 should be caught before the afternoon fog.

  7. Moving cache GCD118 Going to a Giants Game is waiting wishfully at GCBC09 Es Effo Bug Hotel in Millbrae. The cache also contains a travel bug, ironically called Moving Cache. Will a fan please take the logbook and some contents to a game?
