  1. I don't hate Garmin but at the time of writing there was an issue which I asked for some help with. I appreciate the input of those who have replied and can confirm that my Oregon is now working as it should. Regards, Alex
  2. I have received a reply from Groundspeak as follows: Thank you for contacting Geocaching HQ. I have contacted our engineers and there was one API change that occurred mid-week last week. Garmin is aware of the change, but we do not know whether they are aware of the issues you are reporting with Geocaching Live. We recommend reaching out to Garmin's customer support team. Best regards, Ball in Garmin's court.
  3. I bought it specifically for downloading caches out in the field in conjunction with a smartphone. I only use it for geocaching. My 700 has always been hit and miss at doing this but never had problems with home wifi until now. If I'd known how temperamental it would be I would have got the 600 and saved some money.
  4. Groundspeak vs. Garmin ... we've been down this road before. Whoever is responsible, in the meantime we, the paying customer, are left with a device with reduced functionality.
  5. Do we know for a fact that Groundspeak have messed about with the API or is this just an assumption? If so, why?? I have taken the matter up with Groundspeak but as yet have not received a reply.
  6. Thanks to all who have posted. Hopefully Garmin will come up with a solution soon.
  7. I have again tried the Show All filter setting and have replicated your device.... every cache is showing as a generic closed chest symbol. This is not much use to me as I need to see which type of cache to select. All this is a new development. My device was working as normal a few days ago. Looks like I'll have to revert to the old way of tranferring pocket queries to the Oregon using the USB lead.
  8. After further experimentation I have discovered the Oregon will download over wifi certain types of cache, e.g. multicaches, virtual, earthcaches, etc but NOT traditional caches. I have double checked that there are no filters in operation and it should download all types. I can't understand how this can happen. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Regards, Alex
  9. Ha! I thought of that and checked the filters which seemed to be OK in my case.
  10. My issue in 2017 was that the Oregon would not download via my smartphone but it was OK with home wifi. This time it won't work with wifi. It was OK last week. I zoom the map to where I know there is a new geocache, the spinning circle appears for 30 seconds then stops with no caches appearing. I'm using software version 4.40.
  11. My Garmin Oregon 700 has suddenly stopped downloading new geocaches using WiFi. I have checked the Wifi password and tried un-registering and re-registering the device. Can anyone please suggest what the problem might be? Regards, Alex
  12. I have noticed that all downloaded logs on the Oregon 700 from previous finders have the co-ordinates N00 00.000 E000 00.000 with a meaningless distance of, for example "3708mi". I am wondering what is the purpose of these co-ordinates? Are they supposed to show the location of the cacher who logged the find or just the distance of each cache from an arbitrary start point? Or should they not be zero at all? Any ideas would be welcome. Alex
  13. I never use the chirp function but I guess it's possible it got turned on accidentally. However, I have now followed the advice of Mineral2 and deleted all the gpx files and performed a master reset. As far as I can tell this has solved the problem - at the moment the unit is working correctly. Thank you to all who have contributed their ideas and suggestions. Alex
  14. Yes, I've tried it on other activity profiles and it seems to work OK. It's only on "Geocaching" where it shuts down. I will try removing the files suggested by Mineral2. Looks like the problem is with the geocaching files.
  15. My Oregon 700 has suddenly decided to spontaneously shut itself down after about 30 seconds from starting up. I have tried going into Settings to check if anything is amiss but am timed out before I can do this. I have tried changing batteries but this doesn't fix it. Has anyone had experience of this and can suggest a solution? Many thanks, Alex
  16. I installed v3.33 last night and this morning when out and about I started bluetooth and Garmin Connect on my phone. I noticed Garmin Connect synched with my Oregon which it didn't do before. I selected a random area on the map on the Oregon 700 and Geocaching Live downloaded 22 caches bundled around the centre of the screen. So it looks like it is now working for me as intended.
  17. Exactly. The whole idea, as I understand it, is to be able to download caches when in any location where there is a cellphone signal without having to pre-plan where you want to go. At present, for me and many others, this product does not fulfill this task. If I had known this, I would not have bought this product.
  18. My experience is the same with the Oregon 700 and a Motorola Moto G (2nd edition). I am in the UK.
  19. There are issues with Geocaching Live on the Oregon 7** series. I acquired the device a few weeks ago and have not yet got it to work with my phone. Garmin and geocaching.com are currently looking into the problem (see thread Geocaching Live broken on my Oregon 750t)
  20. Just looked at my Dakota 10. It's under Setup...Geocaches....Found Geocaches. Then just enter the number.
  21. Mine works OK over wi-fi at home, but not out in the field over bluetooth, which is where it's needed. Tried getting help from Garmin but they just sent me a set of cut and paste instructions from their website about how to pair devices using bluetooth. The pairing is OK because I can receive text message notifications on the Oregon. I'm beginning to regret buying the Oregon 700. I could have got a cheaper model without the geocaching live facility if this isn't going to work. My phone is android Moto G (2nd gen).
  22. Could the problem lie with Windows10? A salutory lesson for others ... don't "upgrade" to Windows 10 until Microsoft have ironed out the bugs in software which has been released in an unfinished state. I know it's no help to you, but is a warning to others. Early adopters end up being Microsoft beta testers.
  23. I have now followed the procedure suggested by Hynr and this appears to have worked successfully in that the latest 5 logs are showing in a sample selection of caches I have checked. Thanks to all who have contributed help.
  24. I have checked and I don't appear to have any older .gpx files left on the Dakota which would overlap with my latest PQ. I can only think of deleting all .gpx files and starting again. However, I need to wait till Tuesday as I am geocaching today and tomorrow.
