  1. Why do you hate it? I always learn something new each time a topic returns. I would truely like to see register type caches (logbook only) in certain areas where it is not proper to leave a 'tupperware garage sale on a hill'. I always loved peak registers. You don't see them too often anymore.
  2. Hey, thanks! That's awfully nice of you!

  5. quote:Originally posted by mwmm15T: i've found that cloud cover, precipitation (i.e. snow, sleet, rain, etc.) and tree cover can throw off the accuracy of my gps unit. i usually get an epe of less than 20 feet on a clear day out in the open, and i can be at the same spot when it's snowing and get an epe of over 50. 15T Except for tree cover, this should not be the case. Weather should not effect reception. You my be experiencing blockage or signal bounce from nearby objects, or bad satilite geometery, or variations in the ionoshere.. A good day for your GPS has nothing to do with weather, but rather these other factors.

This is what I saw a couple weeks ago across the street from a park while hunting a cache. http://home.earthlink.net/~whidbeywalk/_images/trashy_house.JPG Whidbey! Yeah! I saw that very same house! Holy Smoke!
  7. The size of the container at Haiku Duck has increased since Moun10Bike was there. I would be happy to host your ducks. I've had 2 generations of Haiku Ducks in the cache and it is now empty of ducks so it would be a perfect fit. E Mail me if you wish.
  8. If you are 200 yards off, that suggests to me that the problem is most likely that someone is using the wrong map datum. It could be you or the cache placer. If there have been other finds on the cache then it is probably you. Make sure you are using WGS84 map datum. You can probably find your datum under system setup or some like menu. If it is his coordinates that are off then it will probably be that he was using NAD27. So just switch to that and re-input the coords to find the cache. If it is him let him know so he can change the coordinates. Oh, it is very unlikely that your GPS itself is inaccurate.

    Averageing

I plan to when I find time. I have averaged over several benchmarks and with each reading been within a few meters with my Map 76. Going to do it again with and without averaging, WAAS, and also with my Garmin 12.
  10. Thanks! That's great. I'm not sure that big red rock would fit in her room anyway

  12. That would work great. I'll also E Mail you with another option, your choice. Thanks loads! I am the product of a little girl's imagination. She had an imaginary friend named "Rocketee" and HE had a friend named "EraSeek". She says I'm ten.
  13. She's ten. She'd love an Australian Flag, or a small rock from Australia, she'd love either one. That would be very nice but don't feel obligated. Perhaps I can send something in return. Gizmo Dave offered to help send things along. EraSeek@msn.com [This message was edited by EraSeek on March 15, 2002 at 10:10 PM.]
  14. If you view my profile you'll see that I'm imaginary. But the little girl who dreamed me up idolizes Australia and anything Australian. You should see here room. Sorry, just had to pass that along. ~EraSeek~ Mill Creek, Washington, USA. happy caching!
  15. A lot of this is still being worked out as the sport grows. As for now, National parks are out except for virtual caches ( I personally would like to see limited Logbook only caches allowed there). Other than that, let common sense be your guide. Hope island would be cool! I've got one on Burrows Island. Keep away from dams, miltary installations, and the like for now due to 9-11. Make sure you give some sort of indication on the outside of the box that it is harmless.
  16. I agree. I'm willing to help when I can, as many times as I can, IF I can (that's a big if). Seems to me if it is rehashed I always learn something new anyway.

  18. Good story, well rounded, fair, expressed the experience well. Liked it. Keep in mind to do it right.

When I click on the E-Mail icon above someone's post to send them an E-Mail I get in the E-Mail address line "DISPLAY_EMAIL" but no address. Must be a bug.

That is, any observations after sunset will always be better than those take 12 hours previous. This is correct. And in addition to this WAAS will have less of a correcting effect at night than in the day as there is less to correct. I guess the message here is "Nightcachers do it better"

quote:Originally posted by sporthunter: EraSeek I hear you say that with your map76 it will stop when it gets it's most accrete reading, With my emap it just keep's counting butt I've maybe waited five minutes ten, If I was to let it go would it stop also at the best average? sporthunter With my Garmin 12 you can watch the accuracy reading it provides jump around and eventually stablized in a lower reading when it has averaged sufficiantly. My Map76 counts, and I have noticed that sometimes it will stop after an amount of time. I assume it is doing the same thing as how it stops counting quicker with good coverage. Moun10Bike has not noticed this on his. Maybe it is just a bug. I plan to play with it a bit more while paying attention to this feature to confirm that that is what it is actually doing.
  23. That's like saying we should be paid for finding/hiding caches. Frankly, I enjoy hiding probably more than finding. The whole idea is that funding is needed at this point because of the growth of geocaching, not that we need more growth. So those who wish to, lets help fund it. Personally I hope Jeremy will be able to make a decent living just by devoting himself to this great site.
