  1. What's the story? Was it anonymously returned to a cache, found on the ground or what? Inquiring minds want to know...
  2. I recognize that guy! Isn't that The Moop Along?
  3. I received one and passed one on. They are great coins and a great project.
  4. Three new caches were posted on the same day in my city. This could finally be the break I was waiting for to get my first FTF in front of kstatealan, a known ftf-hound in town, but I was at work. I decided to ditch the afternoon and run out to grab them. After wandering for a long time on the wrong side of a creek, I found the right area and plunged from the grassland into the woods. In my haste, I forgot I was wearing work shoes and ended up skidding down the slope into a tree and tore a 6"x6" patch out of the front of my dress slacks. Turns out the cache was back up in the grassland. I almost met the KansasFinders on that trip, seeing them coming down the trail and trying to hide their GPS from me. With my pants in that condition, I didn't think it was right to introduce myself to strangers. Oh, and as for the FTF? Kstatealan beat me to it by a half hour.
  5. My current favorite was my #100 - Mission 9: Tunnel of Light A.P.E. Cache in Seattle. I went by myself when the tunnel was open and scared myself silly. Placed by some of the founders of the game, get this endangered species before it's gone - definitely worth the hike and the experience.
  6. Along with DNFs, I watch every find for a couple of weeks to see if the next person finds it. I don't mind not being the FTF, but I HATE to be LTF.
  7. There's a webcam cache not far from me that encourages the "Finder" - the cacher in the picture - to log a find, as well as the cacher who takes the picture. Some teams split up to get two finds for the same search. For me, sitting on my duff and taking the picture is not the same as locating the spot and getting someone else to take the shot, so I would never log a find as the picture taker. Even though the cache owner sets up the rules this way, I choose not to play that game.
  8. Congratulations! I know I've enjoyed this pasttime enough to introduce my brothers and their families, parents and quite a few friends to the game. Now my parents and one brother have far more finds than I do. It's cool to have someone else who "gets it" to talk to.
  9. I was once told, "No good war story ever started 'it was 70 degrees and sunny that day...'" Sounds like you have a doozy. Cache on!
  10. I have one of Chris's (Hound's) Fox-and-the-Hound Coins and it is wonderful in its elegant simplicity. I love anything by him. I also recently received the Arrowhead geocoins - beautiful work.
  11. Just bought the last nickel finish Sydney Eternity coin! Thanks!
  12. I have several Finder Fox coins (just had to) and my son just started his own account as "CrazyBeaver". Please send me a PM with instructions for ordering this coin. It would be a neat present as his first Geocoin.
  13. If I've nominated someone, and indeed already placed the personal cache out for him or her, will he or she know I was involved? How will I know when he or she gets notified of the surprise waiting? BTW - thanks for the surprise in the package. Waiting for an appropriately auspicious occasion to use it.
  14. Did you make a PMS coin? I think I missed it ...
  15. Squirrels and chipmunks are forever gnawing into tupperware lids around here. P.S. Loved the fox from the first series!
  16. I recently saw a show on the travel channel where a group of civil war enthusiasts descended on a 200 acre area in Virginia to search for artifacts. They all carried metal detectors, along with mattocks, shovels and picks. They would search around until they found a buried firepit, then dig a hellacioiusly big hole. Then they use their metal detectors again to identify buttons, bullets and the like. Nothing was ever mentioned about filling in the holes. As a geocacher, I was aghast! I couldn't imagine leaving that big a scar in the wild. I'm sure they were on private land with permission, but I could see how that show would encourage other people with metal detectors to go onto public land to find their own treasures.
  17. Denny, there's some lovely filth down here!
  18. Cap'nChris is the best hider around this area - he finds unique spots from deep in the woods to the bottom of the lake to an urban pocket vest park. He knows the area well and is unpredictable - you can never tell what you're going to get from the Cap'n. He is also the best because he provides plenty of pictures, not just for his own hides, but for his finds as well. The hide pages and logs are well thought out, detailed and humorous. I can't tell you how many places I'd have never gone if it weren't for him.
  19. I've got to agree with most of the posters here. I was in Seattle when a new cache popped up. I thought having a FTF 1,400 miles from home would be cool, so I played hooky from my conference and ran down to the waterfront. There were way too many people around, so even though I could see the cache clearly, I was unable to retrieve and sign the log. I marked it as a DNF. We all play the game our own way, but there are certain necessary elements for it to be called the same game.
  20. I'll be in Seattle next week for a conference, but I'm too early! I don't know when I'll be that way again from Kansas. Anyway, a cool coin and I applaud your efforts not to go commerical. Great karma!
