  1. i like this reload, as it 'saves' what you have already entered, but since it is at the top of the page, hardly any onfo is entered....several times i have had errors occur, and i have to redo the whole page. could another reload/save point be created? and it does suck having to scroll back to your place. could the page not auto scroll to 'where you were'?
  2. i just submitted 2 NRHP marks, on both i designated a pic for display. on both occasions i got the 'proximity alert', and added anyway. upon viewing the marks, the pics were not displayed. returning to the 'edit' page, the pic box was empty, i had to reselect and update the mark (re upload the pic) could the 'proximity alert' not cause the display image boxes to reset?
  3. yes, i have been asking for methods to manipulate 'my waymarks' for these purposes for some time. having over 40 pages of 'my marks' makes finding the one that needs attention difficult to locate, also, it hinders monitoring my submitions awaiting approval (i have submitted a 'devilish location' months ago, and sent the group mails several times, but the mark still sits in the que). i am sure that TPTB are developing functions for 'my waymarks'
  4. is this watchlist you speak of the favorites list? i thought the function of a watchlist was to recieve emails. i recieved none from my favs..... i am a member in several groups, i only take action on 'mine', the others i remain as a back up, incase those in front of me are all away--i get emails from people in 'the line'. my problem with lots of groups (being an officer) is the number of emails. on the weekends it can get into the tripls digets if i dont check it regularly. and then i only go to 'my categories' and see which need attention--opening each email to see what group it is for is time consuming). this issue might be corrected with daily digest functions mentioned in other threads. as for being a regular member, it is more about the support of a category. who knows, maybe McDs will give all members of that group a free big mac or something. being part of different groups adds anothe level of individuality to Waymarking.
  5. first check out the "military installations' category...... i have found that many items fit in here--it is not reserved for "just 'bases'"..... alternatively, there is the 'static aircraft category' as for monuments: there is a WWI cat, and a Civil War category...... hope this helps......
  6. thanks for your quick and thoughtful responses. i appears that we are all of a similar mindset about districts. in an effort to keep this category spirited with NRHP, i feel that districts should still be allowed, with 1 point 'in the center of the district'. though these are hard to sumbit/manage, it is often the case that they are blanket classification for areas where individual structures are not quite vaild for NRHP status. it might also be something of a 'locationless' idea.....mark a point for the district, and maybe provide points/descriptions of how far the area extends. if it happens that a site with in that district is also listed on the register, then it becomes a valid submition for another mark in the category. otherwise, those who visit the district can proceede to the center and take their 'i been there' pic, and maybe even find some other aspect of the district that appeals to them, and include pics/coords/info (if known) in their logs. therefore in layman's terms: it appears that the exclusion of districts is not a valid plan of action. if you have posted a boundary extention previously, take the initiative to merge it with the original mark, archiving the increasing mark. the category group will be contacting owners of such marks requesting that this happen when we get a chance to locate them within the existing waymarks. the NRHP group will update the category description (rules) to include a statement about this issue in the coming days (today is a holiday). sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone. just undergoing some routine peer review processing in an effort to maintain the integrity of the NRHP category. 7. so, in my approving of submitions just now it has posed a question--though in doing my own researching for submitions and in monitoring the submition emails it is noticable..... the issue is that of the 'places' on the register labeled as 'Boundary Increase'. i have choosen not to categorize these 'places' as seperate from the original point. for all intensive purposes they just make the original 'place' larger in area. in marking these 'districts' i try to choose a central point for my waymarks. waymarks are set up to only have 1 coord set, where as boundary increases my require more than 1 point, and since the 'center' is already posted, what mark do you use? so then, i pose the question to the masses: are boundary increases valid as seperate marks, or should they be incorporated into the 'original location'? submitting them as seperate marks is almost classifiable as number inflation. i would suggest that they be treated as the same mark, with the extentions included in the description. your most basic scenerio would be 'your town square', usually with the courthouse being the central point or close to it. so you submit 'your town square district' (for example: Union Station). Instead of submitting the boundary increase as a seperate mark (for example: Union Station Boundary Increase), take points at the new boundary (as in the 'four corners' of the boundary) and include them in the 'original' waymark. i an not calling anyone out on this, i just found the first 2 examples already posted in the category to use as examples. this category has been through some harsh words in the recent past. we are trying to work to avoid any more in the future.
  8. i would like to see the national register of historic places icon changed to appear like the plaques installed on some of the structures....to differ it from the historic plaques. then, what about adding the state outline on each of the historic plaques icons? to that the icon for each of the 50 states would be unique, and more distinguishable from one another.....
  9. i would suggest the logging of your own marks, so that if it is ever archived, it will still be in your stats. AND you do visit it to gather submition information, do you not? is this not a visit? as for multiple logs: logging a mark multiple times does not change stats (other than 'my logs total'. the stat for that category stays the same....so when you go to the McDs the second time the only thing that changes is the # of logs on that mark, and your total # of logs. the McDs stat on your visited marks tab only increases when you log a mark for the first time.... and yes, i feel that you should only log a mark, on the site, multiple times in order to show changes at the location--as in seasonan, or in the case of war memorials, on a holiday where people have left mementos (flowers/flags) decorating for the occasion....
  10. thanks for the fast replies.... closing thread. until we speak again.... chapterhouse
  11. i did not have a problem finding my TB code, but i can not find where to get my activation #. it is not on any of the resources that are linked in this forum.
  12. G'day Ahh, but I believe the OP did exactuly that, but there is no submission requirement for correct grammar (at least in the eyes of the approver) or spelling Maybe there should be a guideline for actually reading and comprehending what others have said in forums before posting replies too. Have a nice day or rather evening or better still both at your end of the world. Regards Andrew i was not directing this at the OP. just stating so that it was out there....it seems that this all arose from one members pickyness, and turned into a rant. the only reason i referred to the OP was that he/she has the power to close the thread. if there ever is a category that does not approve marks due to spelling errors, i will never submit any....if this 'spelling bee' is so consenscious (is that spelled right?) about others abilties, i would like for someone to browse all my submitted marks and find my errors.....i barely find time to submit, much less go back and seek such nitpicky errors. i would like to see a spell check function added to the submition/logging/forum pages....then it would be a valid requirement. but then whose spelling is right? the OZ (british) or USA (american) way? which colour is your favorite color? as it stands i have spent too much time on this subject. on to more important things than how to spell a word.
  13. ok, i think if you ARE an officer, there is an email gropu link, but what if i had an issue with a submition in a category i was neither a member nor officer in? my issue was resolved through send a message to the denier, and it was an honest mistake that was quickly remedied. however, it might have gotten stuck had they 'fell off the face of the earth'......
  14. seeing how this thread is quite old, i believe that the issue has been resolved, has it not? i created the group, which the created the category. i know nothing about the issue, other that what was read here. does the OP writer have anything more to say? maybe this rant thread should be closed, and GENERAL discussions could be held in a GENERAL NRHP discussion thread....personally, i have had no problems whatsoever in submitting marks in this category..... one must read all submition guidelines prior to creating a submition.....this is why they are included at the top of the submition page....
  15. im on, but dont expect me to do any managing. seems like you can handle it yourself though....will try to post more in the category as well... and what about when the quarry ceases avtivities? will there be an 'abandoned quarry' category? ever seen 'breaking away', a movie about the bicyclists? they swin in an abandoned quarry....this still done anywhere? i am sure it is not good for your health though...
  16. i'm in. and hoping i can find something to post in this category as well.....
  17. ok jake, maybe i get the email now...i thought i had joined this group from the 'groups list' but i wasnt on the list....now i am, but i see that you are not. now only 1 more is needed for probation revokation. i will be an officer, but do NOT want to lead it. this might be a good example for an auto approve category, but then begs the question: 'how far apart do the marks need to be to be classified as seperate? i post one, and what, a quarter of a mile away some one posts another? would that be valid? i would think that these marks encompass quite some distance AROUND the posted coordinates..... i am verclempt, discuss amongst yourselves....(sorry, i cant spell too well)
  18. what are the numbers assigned to variables for? i think it might relate to the variable searches.....but in setting up several categories (historic markers) i used the SAME variables....they all have different #s. can the program not register that that variable is already in use and thus, give it the already assigned #. then when the variable search is instituted, i search for all historic markers earmarked as a 'building {aka 046}, the program then searches for all marks with an assigned '046' variable...... and i could do a general variable search (from the home page?) for buildings, and get many different results, outside of the historic marker realm..... ????????????????
  19. what about an email ALL officers/group members link? i believe that it is not on the page, you must copy the message and send it to each member individually....
  20. what about adding a 'logging' choice, like on GC.com, stating that you have a correction for the mark (speling or gremmar), or have additional info that should be incorporated into the mark (background information)....thus moving towards the peer review process. note: thus, to classify them from the 'notes' posted.....as in: if i was armchair Waymarking, i would post a note to a really cool mark i found, making comments about how i hoped to maybe visit it......i had someone do this for a GA hist marker last year, saying thanks for the history lessons.....and thusly, posting a note does not affect visit stats, but should be categorized somehow (as on Gc.com, on 'your account' you can sort the recent activity by 'finds', TB drops/pickups, notes posted, ETC......)
  21. what wifi was reworked? and how were we supposed to notice this? i guess it might have been posted on that string, but how many people read the forums? yes, multiple approvals is overboard. some categories want lots of info (background), but sometimes this is not to be found by the poster. this should come out in the 'peer review process'--AKA visiting/logging waymarks. if i drive through an area and spot a 'mark' i get only what i need to post. i might try a google, but often i find nothing more than i knew from visiting the site--how do i know when the monument was placed and by whom. there is no existing database for this info. it is what we are trying to create.....so i post something, and {eventually} a local person will be more able to supply this info. a seperate issue: i have seen an increase in people logging/visiting my waymarks {in chattanooga at least}, mostly from vacationers. anyone else seeing this trend? and i dont think they really are looking FOR 'my marks', they are finding marks, and in submitting them see that it is already posted....this is the only way i have 'found' marks not owned by myself....
  22. no permit is needed for Waymarking, as of yet. you must find an appropriate category to post it in, or create/wait for one to be introduced..... note: it might possibly be on the NRHP. check there. otherwise, you will most likely have to create one yourself....
  23. no, i believe that the autoapprove function is obsolete.
  24. from my experience--having having accidently approved a mark and recieveing both the approved & denied emails for the same mark--you need THE email with the link to the approval/denial buttons. a good place to start would be to ask the mark owner(s) to archive the marks--providing evidence of why it is not applicable in the category. also take into account that they might have been posted before the instructions were updated to make them insufficient. therefore they are 'grandfathered' in. this is something that might not have been realized by TPTB, allowing groups (managers) to fully manage the categories--as if you add a new variable choice, it is up to the mark owner to go in and update the info {ie: you submit a benchmark in the town of Atlantis. it is not in the drop down, so you type it in the box. when it is added to the dropdown box, you must go back and change it as the mark owner. the category managers are not allowed to modify marks in it.}
