  1. as far as i have seen there is an 'active' and 'away' setting on group membership. obviously we all know what 'active' is, but what is 'away'? do you still recieve all emails? or just 'group notifications'? if i am 'away' can i still be active in the group--can 'inactive' people approve marks? can there be another designation like 'minimal'--to indicate that the person does not desire to approve marks, but wants to participate in other group activities/discussions?
  2. with membership in different category management groups, a multitute of emails are recieved. Members often have different roles in these different groups. in an effort to make category/group emails more managable from the 'inbox' view (not having to open each one) can the category related to the email be put into the subject line? below is a copy of an example email with my suggestions [in brackets] ----------------------------------------------------- Subject: Confirmation of 'Wertz Mill' [in U.S. National Register of Historic Places] This is an automated message from Waymarking.com This is a short note to let you know the new waymark 'Wertz Mill' has been submitted to your group's category (U.S. National Register of Historic Places). You can review the waymark here: http://www.Waymarking.com/my/approve.aspx?...95-9e5703bac3fb Please review this waymark for adherence to your category goals, and work with the creator of the waymark if any changes need to be made before approval. Once you have approved the new waymark an automated email with be sent to the user who submitted the waymark letting them know it is active. Happy Waymarking! The Groundspeak Team ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ and as an example of a daily digest for ALL email types: ----------------------------------------------------------------- subject: Waymarking Daily Digest This is an automated message from Waymarking.com Waymarks Submitted for Approval: -Recovered US Benchmarks: --'Groundspeak headquarters disk #808 <insert link> --mark #2<link> -Georgia Historical Markers --'Fulton County' <link> --'the night the lights went out' <link> -FIRST of its kind --'FIRST - Geocache' <link> --'FIRST - indoor outhouse' <link> Waymark Logs: -Kentucky Historic Markers --'Bowie, A Kentuckian' logged 8.8.2010 by Danmar35 "i thought this was a mythical man" 8.7.2010 by BacPhat441 "enjoyed the drive through this area" -NPS Passport Cancellation Stations --Mammoth Cave National Park logged 8.6.2010 by CvrGuy1990 "stamped my book, on to the next location: Abe Lincoln." -Mcdonalds --Space Station McDs logged 8.8.2010 by CachePlutoNow "drivethru service was terrible today. my poppers were not done and no longer hot. Group Messages: -Firehouses: BigRed45 sent "i think we should reevaluate our variables and try to condense them into a more searchable structure" -waterfountains Aquaman has created a vote on "reducing mermaids rank to barnicle" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- this is just a suggestion. maybe i have been helpful, or at least entertaining. i know a lot is really important, and this is working so 'dont fix it' (right?). but at least it can be put in the need to look at stack.......
  3. it depends on how many visits to a waymark you are logging and how often--in addition to who owns it. once you have logged a visit to a waymark it is added to your 'stats' (you know of a better word, let's start using it. and that is what they are, stats). you can then log THAT waymark as many times as you want, with your stats not changing; other than your number of 'logs' increasing. for the time being, as email notifications stand, each time you post a log the owner of the mark recieves an email. if you own the mark you want to 'visit daily' and handle the emails, that is your choice, however, how would someone else feel to get your log emails? on the other hand, say you vacate in a National Park/World Heritage Area/Earth Cache/ Cave Entrence; it would then make sense for you to log every visit. thus, Waymarking has corrected an issue with multiple finding of locations. as for finding you own mark: did you not 'find it' to submit it? it was visited. there is an exception to this action, in that some categories accept submitions from databases (ie: Rec US Bench), so if you did not visit to gather submition information a log is inappropriate. this begs the question: if it is obvious that a person visited the site in order to gather information necessary to post a waymark but lacks one point of logging criteria (chiefly the 'pic of gps and/or you), is the log still 'approvable'--the person does 'own the mark' and manages the logs, right?
  4. yes, the 'to post' folder is ever growing, and the 'done' folder is always empty.
  5. so i logged on today and saw that 'my profile' now has 'visited' and 'owned' tabs.....now it is possible to see what others have been doing--some submit and not log, others are just logging--as we surf the site. now if the GC and WM profiles can be linked. any way that a total can be added to the bottom of these new pages? will they ever be side-by-side, as on GC.com? or will it remain 2 seperate pages? it seems that the site is improving and growing every day. any idea when the home page would display information such as..... there are ...... total waymarks in.......categories in .........countries. ......new waymarks submitted by.......users in the past.......time frame ....waymarks have been logged by.......users in the........time frame ......categories are in the submittal process and what about the email notification system? it would be nice to recieve 1 email every 'night' with a digest of Waymarking issues...could there be seperate digests? as -a digest for all waymarks submitted to groups i am an officer in (options for each group as a digest, or a large compiling digest) -a digest for all of 'my waymarks' that have been logged -a weekly notification system of all new waymarks in my home area and it has been posted in the forums that 'your favorites' can be displayed in google earth, but what about having different types of favorite groups--the ones i post waymarks in, one i want to post in, one i have visited, and one i want to visit. just a suggestion. and how about a stat update....appears that the top 25 hasn't changed that much. still displaying the same range (above 70 waymarks). with the advent of the new 'my page' tabs maybe i can get some 'waymarks visited' stats soon...... doing what i can.....chapterhouse rank username count ChapterhouseInc 685 2 stoneposse 340 3 BruceS 323 4 Volcanoguy 317 5 showbizkid 314 6 LowellHouseGang 243 7 chstress53 240 8 Shorelander 237 9 deano1943 168 10 Gosffo 166 11 LSUMonica 152 12 Tsegi Mike and Desert Viking 143 13 tiki-4 113 14 Jake39 111 15 cache_test_dummies 110 16 seventhings 109 17 Team Min Dawg 107 17 ODragon 107 19 The Blue Quasar 103 20 Mountain_Wanderer 96 21 Rose Red 83 22 GeoCraig 77 23 BackPak 76 24 James1549 73 25 Touchstone 70
  6. i have my filter set to 100% so that i can see all the categories. i vote up on any category that i want to find/visit (adding immediate knowledge to my favorites). i do not vote on other categories. i believe that categories start at 100%. voting yes cannot make it any higher. and it is not clear how voting no lowers the %. it seems that categories would start at 0. obviously the group should vote yes on it, giving at least 3 yesses. then if i vote no the rating would be 75%. yes, more stastics need to be gathered and available for us to view. BDT has made some very good suggestions. we will have to see how it pans out....
  7. yes, this might be a good variable, allowing you to choose which park you want to visit. it just seems sort of subjective though. i just 'tossed' the ball with my dog in the kitchen--i am sure it is smaller than any dog park. should some sort of 'suggestive' dimensions for each category be supplied? how about a variable for how many dogs are in at the same time as well.... there is a park here that has 3 different 'areas' comparable to a back yard--you can do what ever you want in the space--and only the 'dogs you bring' are in the fenced area. another park has two similar sized areas, the smaller for small dogs and the larger for big dogs. yet another park has a football field sized area for everyone to use. so then should there be a 'public' or 'private' variable?
  8. trying to ready a shipment. regular coin.
  9. and forgetting is the last worry. its finding time to go back through them. and yes, there needs to be icon systems for posting requirements as well as visiting requirements and 'information' (snakes, 24hr, children, etc...)
  10. they were interfering with the numbers. and taking up space on the 'my waymarks' page. i dont care to see them. maybe on another page.
  11. just looked at things being discussed and saw the payphones has a 100% rating.
  12. well, this is what i know. i have the most waymarks, sitting at like 620. so what percentage is that? this does include the 4-5 waymarks that are 'archived' (did not get accepted in a category) not telling you how i know, but that is the case.... here is the top 25 section of the rankings: rank username count ChapterhouseInc 620 2 stoneposse 340 3 Volcanoguy 270 4 showbizkid 259 5 chstress53 240 6 LowellHouseGang 231 7 Shorelander 186 8 BruceS 156 9 deano1943 147 10 LSUMonica 131 11 Tsegi Mike and Desert Viking 129 12 tiki-4 113 13 Gosffo 106 14 Team Min Dawg 104 15 seventhings 98 15 Jake39 98 17 ODragon 97 18 Mountain_Wanderer 96 19 The Blue Quasar 80 20 GeoCraig 77 21 cache_test_dummies 76 22 BackPak 73 23 Touchstone 70 24 TheBeanTeam 63 25 Blue Man 62
  13. as with the 'nearest geocaches' link, it would be convenient to have a 'nearest waymarks' link. i listed 3 fountains in a garden. there were others that i did not post. some one has just logged them. i can see on the fountain category if he posts some of them, but what about other categories? i might have not gone to see other 'waymarks' to post, or a new category could have 'made another mark possible'. i feel that a 'nearest waymarks' function would be beneficial to the Waymarking movement. (and also a 'Waymarking.com map')
  14. Waymarking is all about the picture and information sharing..... what does it look like? what does it say? what do the logs say? what will it be like when i visit? i found a benchmark (on accident) and when i logged it on GC.com, i looked at all the previous logs [it was 'in the area' of a cache and very obvious]. through the pictures i could see how the lawnmower was slowly tearing it to shreds. i too have waymarked the 'crap' out of my home city, and also anywhere i visit (passengers do not care for the frequent jerks of the wheel and braking just for me to take some pictures). currently i am in KY for school. do a search for this area code (42259) and all you see IS benchmarks. yes there is quite a bit of other stuff if you click through many pages. as with the 'my waymarks' page, this searching function needs some work. you should search the zipcode with a resulting of categories, not a 'list by closest' (when are you ever in the center of the zip code anyway?). then if you were in boston and did not care for benchmarks, you could not look at those results. alternatively, if you REALLY hated benchmarks could there not be a function to 'ignore' a category, with it never showing? similar to the 'caches i found' function. (will there be an option to not display waymarks i have found, or to be able to ignore them?) the more of a PITA it is to use Waymarking, the fewer that will use it....yes, there is a core group that seems to be growing more and more everyday, but for how long will they keep using it? my MAJOR complaint is that it is becoming harder and harder to rember all the things i should be collecting to post, with more popping up every day now....i think i missed a vote or 2. how about some sort of new category for approval notification?
  15. http://www.geocaching.com/adopt/ found this in the geocoin forum....will try it this afternoon and post results here... looking at that page it says i put it up for adoption, but i don't say who it goes to...should i not say 'i give TBXXXX to YYYYYYY'? or is this on the second page? should i just give the #s to the new owner and have them fill the form out?
  16. we have been sharing an account. but with so many bugs/coins, i made her get her own name...i thought there was a link on the right of the bug page to transfer it to another user...travel bug adoption... how do i do this?
  17. yes, well it is a nice option. i did not see what happened, as i wanted the pic on the page...and it does help to keep the page size in check--not having to scroll left for the things located there....now, if they could fix the sizes on profiles. since adding a picture to the description is a good option, there should be an option to make it an option or a requirement. it would depend on the category. and it helps those that do not know how to insert the pic to the page.
  18. i just posted a McDs waymark, and on the description form, there was a 'display image' box. i inserted the pic i wanted on the description page. And instead of me having to HTML the description to insert the pic, it was there above the 'long description'. however, i just posted a benckmark and there was not a 'display image' box, and am having to HTML the description. how is it that you make this 'active', and why not make it standard....if you don't use it, no harm done, right?
  19. sounds interesting....and has that 'wow' flavor efveryone seems to want....
  20. i too got the 10 mile message. i was looking at someone else's stats to see what they had visited. havent looked at archived marks yet, i dont care to access them, other than to copy info for proper category. speaking of stats, if it NEVER was a waymark, why does the stat count?
