That sounds the best I've heard of recently...and with free shipping, it would be that much harder to beat. As with other places, Amazon will hold their shipping prices down by using the cheapest means available, but I haven't found them abusive in that regard. You just have to be a little more patient. I think they actually say on the Amazon site that shipping will take 3 to 5 days longer.

I think I can't wait any longer...getting my orders in tonight.

Seems to me that you have to find something--some kind of evidence--to constitute a "Destroyed" option. If I find it: found. If I can't find it: not found. If I find fairly clear evidence that the marker is not where it clearly should be: Destroyed (with detailed explanation). None of those categories: maybe a note.

My point is that my Destroyed icons (well, icon...I've only had one like this) designate something found, not that I couldn't find anything. It provides descriptive information to others who may search for the BM, and it brings some uniformity to what our find numbers mean...although I have to count myself among those who get *much* more enjoyment out of searching (and sometimes finding) than I do out of looking at my found list.

  3. Let me add this: people who do have phobias are keyed in to anticipate (and thereby avoid) situations that tax their abilities to cope. You don't have to watch out for them because they are plenty busy watching out for themselves.

That being said, I still think it is a courtesy to warn anyone about something uniquely [and potentially] freaky. Even if you try to keep it a secret in your description, dramatic features are apt to be mentioned in the logs.

  4. I think the admin staff have a context for what you're presenting. As long as you say something like, "No more dangerous than your average cache, but those stressed by heights, water, or tight enclosures may feel uncomfortable," then I think you've given sufficient warning to seekers.

Finder logs will help quantify the degree of possible discomfort. If you're uncertain you might have a buddy beta-test it for you and offer an opinion.

Seems to be a Pocket Query problem. I've had only the first few hints in both Mobi and the text conversion version. I've seen several others mention this problem.

  7. My Venture did this today; glad to find this information in a forum search.

A squeeze at the suggested e-zone brought my display back, but it still seems to be popping in and out. Based on others' experiences, I guess I'll monitor things for awhile before deciding if I need to send it in.

  8. On the one hand, without a log to sign the photo gives some sort of validation that you really found it.

On the other hand, who cares? It's a darn game!

(I upload photos, but I think it's my way of enjoying my obsessive-compulsive side.)

  9. I missed a -2 last night because military time requires more fingers than I have (went outside an hour late). But there was a -8 tonight that I caught and it was impressive. Especially cool when you drag a bewildered spouse out in the yard and count it down to the second. I felt like a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's court. icon_biggrin.gif

  11. I like the notion, Markwell...like the categories, too.

As I was driving into work today I was thinking about some caching analog to the Academy Awards. It could be some annual vote by cachers for something like five of their favorite caches found in the past year--perhaps limited to caches that had been placed within the past year. Regionalizing it is a good idea...solves problems of higher cacher populations dominating the vote.

It seemed to be it would be a positive (albeit imperfect) way to recognize and draw attention to caches that are popular. Maybe a little blue ribbon icon or something could be a part of the cache listing. No put-down of other caches...heck, I'd be tickled if I got a single vote for a cache of mine.

It would be something to do when it's cold and snowy out...

    How do I find it?

How do I get to GC4115 to see this freakiness?

I tried putting 4115 in as the ID code at the end of a URL for a cache, but nothing freaky there...

    HELP??

Choose Hide & Seek a cache from the Geocaching home page, then use GC4115 in a waypoint search.

but if I had any sense I'd wear long pants caching.

Two alternatives I've found useful for the summer:

    1. Those convertible pants with the zip-off/zip-on legs.

    2. A set of goretex chaps that strap on to your belt but cover your entire legs (these from my motorcycling youth).

Either one gives lets me hike in shorts but add full leg protection without carrying another pair of trousers. Because of their water repellant qualities, the chaps are handy on damp days.
