  1. I'm the ultimate gadget freak and have purchased various GPS units over a few years. To put it simply, I have too many units (currently using a GPSMAP 60C and a GPSMAP 60CS) and am looking to get rid of them while they are still of some value. The price listed for each unit is just what I feel I they are worth considering their condition and age...If the price is out of the ball park, let me know since I have done NO research on the going prices. You be fair and I'll be fair and let's deal. 1. Magellan GPS 315 $30.00 Unit has all original in-box items including the box. Condition is like-new with the original plastic screen protector still on the unit. Will include original Magellan DataSend CD and automotive power cable. 2. Magellan MAP 330 $75.00 Unit has all original in-box items including the box. Condition is like-new with the original plastic screen protector still on the unit. Will include Magellan automotive power cable along with automotive mounting bracket (suction cup for window mount). 3. Magellan Meridian Gold $150 Unit has all original in-box items including the box. Condition is like-new (plastic screen protector has been removed but the screen has NO scratches). Screen has the "blue blotches with backlight enabled" problem but is not bad at all. Will post a photo if requested. Will include an 8MB Panasonic SD card for uploading maps along with the original Magellan MapSend Streets CD (NOT the newer Streets and Destinations). 4. Garmin eTrex Vista $175 Unit has all original in-box items including the box. Condition is like-new (plastic screen protector has been removed but the screen has NO scratches). Will include vehicle mounting bracket. 5. Garmin eMap $200 Unit has all original in-box items including the box. Condition is like-new (plastic screen protector has been removed but the screen has NO scratches). Will include vehicle mounting bracket, 64MB data card and Garmin data card programmer. Included items are negotiable and will adjust price according to what items you want, but I'd rather sell the whole lot since I have no use for the additional accessories without the GPS. 6. Garmin GPSMAP 76S $225 Unit has all original in-box items including the box. Condition is like-new (plastic screen protector has been removed but the screen has NO scratches). 7. Garmin GPS V unit #1 $200 Unit has all original in-box items including the box. Condition is like-new (plastic screen protector has been removed but the screen has NO scratches). Includes City Select (data version 2.0) unlock code for region 1 (CA, OR, WA, NV, ID, MT, WY) *The additional free unlock has been used for another unit* 8. Garmin GPS V Deluxe unit #2 $250 Unit has all original in-box items including the box. Condition is like-new (plastic screen protector has been removed but the screen has NO scratches). Includes North American City Select v4.01 (data version 2.01) with full North America unlock. *The additional free unlock has been used for another unit* I will ship to the continental US via USPS or UPS and will accept postal money order or personal check. Post here or email me if interested...like I said, these prices are totally negotiable. Email address is s.zakharov@att.net and I am located in the Los Angeles, CA area.
  2. Just a few thoughts on the Quest... Regarding the "high-speed processor"...I think the same processor is used on all the new portable Garmin units (60C(S), 76C(S), Vista C/Legend C etc.) since they all have very similar operating systems. The Quest looks to have this same operating system but with a slightly different look and a few different options. I can see no reason why they would use a totally different processor in the Quest. I feel that Garmin's reference to "high-speed processor" is a comparison to the older processor used in previous units like the GPS V...compared to the GPS V, the 60C and 60CS (I have both) are blazingly fast at route calculations. I too am looking into the Quest...but the battery issue has me re-thinking this unit. Maybe Garmin figures that since it's a portable automotive navigator, most of the time it will be wired direct to the car's 12 volt power, not needing the internal battery at all while being used in the car. When and if you need to take it with you, the unit will still be portable enough to pop out of it's bracket, disconnect the power source and be ready to run off it's internal battery. Hopefully the unit be able to recharge it's internal battery while being connected to the 12 volt power while it's operating. Let's hope this is the case...if it is, I would be happy with this setup since you don't have to "remember" to charge the internal battery as it's already being charged as it's being used on 12 volt power. But then again, I'd rather have the ability to pop in a couple of rechargeable AA's when I need to. Also, since I never leave the GPS in it's bracket when I'm not in the car, disconnecting the power cable every time I stop somewhere and stow the GPS would get old really quick.
  3. I have a couple of questions about the status bar in the Legend C/Vista C... looking through the downloadable .pdf manuals for both units, I see the definite lack of the status bar as it's actually displayed on the screen (us 60C/60CS/76C/76CS owners know this bar very well...and wish it would simply go away (via a menu option of course)). Where is the status bar actually located on the Legend C/Vista C screen when it is enabled? At the top or bottom of the screen? How long is it actually displayed when enabled? To me, the full screen of the Legend C/Vista C looks to be the same size as the 60C's screen but with the status bar removed.
  4. The only way you can "remove" maps from the unit is to overwrite them with a different mapset. You also cannot add or remove individual map segments...you need to replace the mapset with another. The process of uploading maps is a one-time deal...you pick the maps you want to upload and send the entire mapset to the unit in one shot. If you need to add/replace/remove maps, you build another mapset and send it to the unit. You can see the amount of memory that the maps will take up in the GPS before sending them to the unit from within MapSource under the "Maps" tab. At the bottom of the list will be a running memory total of your selected maps.
  5. You may also want to consider that 56MB may be enough for you now, but what about in the future? I also upgraded to a 60C/60CS from a GPS V and jumping from a meager 19MB up to 56MB is a substantial increase. At the same time, MapSource map sizes are also growing in size. My City Select v5 (So. CA area) mapset totalled 56.6MB. Now after upgrading to City Select v6, the same area totals 59.6MB which of course doesn't fit without removing two map segments. 56MB is still fine for me but now I'm wishing that the 60 series came with the same 115MB as the 76CS...
  6. It's very possible that people don't even realize that the map viewer exists without first poking around Garmin's website. Magellan doesn't even have any type of online map viewer... That aside, I feel that even with it's inaccuracies and outdated map data, US Topo is well worth the money. It does however need to be updated...
  7. The map data used for US Topo is quite old as far as street data is concerned. Street detail and urban data is NOT a strong point for this product...but the topo data is, hence the name. If you are looking for up-to-date street data, MetroGuide USA would do the trick for you. Note that the memory in your Legend will not hold much of this detailed map data anyways. Unfortunately, there is no combined product (like a combined MetroGuide/Topo product)...even if there was, the map data would require a substantial amount of GPS memory. Topo's map segments are a good size for your Legend. I think you will have to make do with the outdated street data since you have probably the best MapSource product for your Legend. You may want to check out US Roads & Recreation on the MapSource map viewer here. You can check out the map data for any MapSource product using the map viewer before you buy.
  8. That information is partly correct/incorrect... MetroGuide USA *v5* does not contain, nor send autorouting data with the mapset to supported units that perform autorouting within the GPS unit.
  9. Found the info I was looking for under the MapSource unlock section. Closing topic.
  10. Does someone have the link for the City Select N America v6 upgrade link? I'm looking for the link where you can order the FREE CD and then purchase the unlock code online at a later time after you recieve the upgrade CD. I can't seem to find it on the Garmin site under the cartography section. Thanks for any assitance.
  11. tubemonkey, You may want to check out the Nikon Coolpix 3200. I bought this digicam for the exact same reasons you state...AA batteries and SD card useage. It's a 3.2 megapixel camera and I'm really pleased with it. The higher-end Coolpix cameras use a proprietary battery (because of this, they are a bit thinner...whoop!).
  12. The Ds are an indication that you are recieving WAAS corrections. The red pointer on the satellite page indicates your heading. Walk or face east and the pointer will be pointing to the east indicator on the outer ring.
  13. From the Main Menu, cursor up to the Main Menu title bar. Highlight the left icon on the Main Menu bar and press click-stick center. Owner Information should show up...
  14. The 60C and 60CS have the same field options on the map page...however, having 4 data fields in use on the map page ends up blocking way too much of the displayed map. I think the best solution here would be for Garmin to offer a different and much smaller font, like that used in the GPS V. The font already exists on the unit...just look at the font being used under an icon that is NOT highlighted (or even the highlighted font...) on the Main Menu. This font would be perfect. I think the idea of having transparent fields is good, but will probably use more code in the firmware. The small font is already there...I wish they would give us the option to choose which to use.
  15. The red dot on the outer ring of the satellite page is a directional pointer...it does not point to where the sun is. Since the outer ring on the satellite display does not rotate in relation to your heading, this red dot moves along the outer ring instead. Stand to the north and the red dot will be aligned with the N on the outer ring. Stand to the west and the red dot will be aligned with the W on the outer ring.
  16. Marine Biologist, See this topic for some pics and what I used in my '94 Mustang GT for mounting my 60C/60CS vertically.
  17. It may be low compared to window mounts but it's easier to reach and operate and is pretty much directly in the instrument cluster line-of-sight. It's also less likely to be seen by someone walking by the car (although I do remove the GPS when leaving the car for any long period of time). Reception is exactly the same as if it were mounted higher. That "funny black box" is the concealed display unit for the Valentine One Radar Locator. (Valentine One website link) The main radar locator unit is mounted on the windshield just above the rearview mirror. The concealed display basically puts all the visual alerts of the main radar locator unit in a more convenient area, like where mine is mounted.
  18. I personally don't use the Garmin supplied adhesive mounting discs since they don't really work for my mounting area which is curved and irregular (and I'd have to cut it to pieces anyways). Instead, I use 3M Heavy Duty Attachment Adhesive which is basically the same adhesive that the Garmin discs are made of. You can also find the same product under a different name (but still 3M brand) in Office Max stores...I forget the name but it comes in roll form and is labeled "use instead of nails, screws" or something similar. Both of these are double sided acrylic adhesive tape made for hi-temp automotive use. It is "permanent" but still removeable (but not very easily...you need to "roll" it off slowly with your thumb and not try to pull it directly off). Note: Don't use standard 3M "double sided foam tape" as this will not last a few weeks in the SoCal sun. A mention was made on cleaning the surface with alcohol prior to using it...beware when using even plain old rubbing alcohol on automotive interior surfaces since it can dull some plastics and even remove paint (some of the harder interior plastics are painted and most of the shock absorbing, softer vinyl type materials are not). Regardless, test a small, inconspicuous area before going full-on with the alcohol. Here are a few shots a what can be done mounting your GPS using some creative thinking. The car is my 1994 Mustang GT. The Garmin mounting plate. Under the plate (and unseen) are plastic shims to allow the plate to conform to the irregular/curved mounting area. The 3M adhesive was used here and holds the bracket and GPS very firmly. The same mounting plate position here also holds my GPS V, Vista and GPSMAP 76S with only minor angle adjustments to their respective brackets. The mounted 60CS Driving view through the steering wheel (the only blocked gauge is the oil pressure). All buttons are easily accessible. The Valentine One Radar Locator extension unit just below the speedo/tach is also mounted using the same adhesive. The bottom line is to experiment...you can ususally shim as needed to get the proper angle and position. The 3M adhesive will hold extremely well...I trust the adhesive more than the actual bracket.
  19. The 60C(S) both have the serial port. It's the same 4-pin round connector used on the GPS V and the GPSMAP 76S (among other Garmin units) If you've installed "Trip and Waypoint Manager", you should be good to go. Did you restart the system after installing "Trip and Waypoint Manager" and before you plugged in the GPS?
  20. I would also be willing to bet that the same flash memory chip used in the 76C(S) would also work in the 60C(S) with no mods other than unsoldering the old & resoldering the new back into it's place...
  21. Be aware that the preloaded marine POI database and uploaded maps cannot coexist with each other. If you upload maps to the Vista, the marine POI database will be erased. If you later decide to restore the marine POI database, your uploaded maps will be erased. There is no getting around this unless Garmin somehow decides to convert the marine POI database as a map segment that you could upload to the GPS along with other maps in the same upload session.
  22. I can mess with it but that don't mean it'll fix it . On my unit, setting the barometer mode (main menu/setup/altimeter) from "variable elevation" to "fixed elevation" turns the tracklog off automatically, even if it was previously on. When "fixed elevation" is set, you can not go back and enable the tracklog at all. How about you other 60CS owners out there...are you seeing the same thing with the tracklog?
  23. I have both the 60C and the 60CS and I love both units. But the thing that bugs me the most about the 60CS is the tracklog and how it gets filled with up so fast. Even when the tracklog's update interval is set to "Least often", it will fill up in (I'm guessing) about 5-6 hours...and that's just sitting in my room, not even moving and just recording the barometric pressure. My Vista can sit for literally days in the same situation, just recording the barometric pressure before it gets full. I feel something is definitely buggy with the tracklog on the 60CS. For this reason, I drive with the 60C...I make use of my tracklogs after a trip and it does me no good if the tracklog is full after only a couple of hours.
  24. What software version is everyone running on their 60C(S)? I know for a fact that transferring a MapSource generated auto route and setting the GPS to navigate this route "Off Road" resulted in what woodworkerjason is wanting to do...I'm running 60C(S) version 3.20 and am suspecting this is a bug in this version. I reverted back to MapSource v5.4, generated a route and dumped it to the 60C(S) but this bug still exists so it looks like it's in the 3.20 version. I don't really feel like reverting to an earlier version on the 60C(S) to find out for sure though...but I know this worked just fine before...
  25. This is probably the most commonly asked question here...the answer is no, you can't. Only Garmin's maps will upload to Garmin GPS units...the same goes for Magellan, Lowrance, etc.
