  1. Hmmm, sounds a little familar There are a few folks that have taken this a bit farther. Check it out
  2. Tend to agree with RNLORNA. Some other cachers have tried to place only those items that have the least chance of offending people. Nazi coins would fall into that category. Not to be political, but we can't assume the background (or faith for that matter) of the person who may find our cache. I have several friends who have come across various items that caused them to send notes to the hiders suggesting they consider removing the items. I wouldn't want to get an email from someone I offended with a cache items, so I keep mine pretty middle of the road. Free advice worth every penny.
  3. TNLNSL stands for Took Nothing Left Nothing Signed Log. What others are you confused about? There are quite a few, and even some that are regional, local.
  4. You are describing a type of cache some refer to as a series. If each cache is seperately listed with its own clues then technically its not a true multi. Most multi-caches have some physical relationship, along a hiking trail for example. If your six micros are all over town and collecting then would give you info to the last I would agree that they are six unique caches with a final "Bonus cache". Are you planning a log sheet in each micro? If so, that would strengthen the notion of a series vs. a multi. Many multi stage caches only serve to move you along to the next stage, not record your visit to each. Also a person could find a few of the caches and decide not to complete the series or to go for the Bonus. Also visiting all of the caches and not finding the Bonus would result in a DNF - if this were a traditional multi. SO, my vote is that you are describing a series of individual caches, not a multi. Free opinion, and worth every penny. Cheers
  5. We are like so many, we heard of Geocaching by word of mouth. Here is the long version from an article in Today's Cacher Magazine
  6. sorry, I read that twice and still can't figure it out? Can you type more slowly?
  7. A small helicopter, hemostats, some sealing wax and sewing thread.
  8. Obsession also works here. As everybody has already said or at least thought a hobby does not always require a time clock, a score, other players, a referee, uniforms, special equipment, training, etc. Oh wait, what side of the argument was I on? OK, a sport requires some competition, colorful fans, corporate sponsorship, steriods, explotation of child labor to produce high priced shoes.... darn, I can't seem to get it all together. OK, I can at least say Geocaching is more fun than watching Olympic curling replays on TEVO.
  9. In a box gathering dust Magellan XL In cache bag Garmin GPSMap 60
  10. We have had some success with GE as have others. We found it more helpful in finding our first 30 or so caches (WITHOUT GPS) were the cache descriptions along with GE adn other mapping software. We even dusted off our old USGS Quad maps and drew lots of silly lines all over them. I guess if someone places a really large cache, I mean really large and we all can wait the two to three years it takes to update the image files to GE then technically GE could find a cache. That goodness our GPS finally arrived, thanks eBay. GE for us is one of many tools we use. It gets more use now when we are scouting a place for a hide more than finding. Its great to see where, approximately, other caches in the area are located - then we can choose a spot less obvious.
  11. Well, in my humble, non-professional, opinion its not a find until you can read some or at least part of the information on the disc. It does appear to be a side view of a copper disc-like object fastened in some manner to a larger mass. I am not sure I would have even gone to the lengths you described in obtaining the picture. Some discs may have to reside just outside your grasp. You have the satisfaction of your effort, if not another find in your profile. I always respect those who can be honest with themselves and log the DNFs, I admit I have a few that I haven't gotten around to logging. Is six months too long to wait to log a DNF? Cheers
  12. Here in the states there is an aerosol paint specifically for plastic made by Krylon called Fusion. Our mega stores and hardware stores carry several colors (or colours) and the cost is around $5.00 US. I have used the paint with great success, I am not sure if it is available outside the states. Before finding this product I followed much of the advice listed above with the best results coming from scratching the surface and multiple applications.
  13. I am married to one, I just wish the INS would go ahead and grant her citizenship. I don't want no green kids running around.
  14. We actually found one (we didn't even have a GPS at the time) while eating at a fast food joint. My wife spotted a light pole in a parking lot across the street with a magnetic keyholder on it. We were about 60 feet from it when she saw the thing. I put down my happy meal and drove over. She leaned out and grabbed it. We got home and found the cache page and logged it.
  15. This is sort of the same thing in reverse. Each year in Memphis TN they hold the Bob Jones invitational golf tournament. You guessed it, only golfers with the name Bob, Robert, Rob, Robbie, Bobby etc. Jones are allowed to participate. The winners list is already completed as well as the winners check. Last time I read about it there were over 150 entrants. about 30 or 40 were from outside the US. The list included 6 females too! P.S. My Great Great Aunt Opal Knight married a nice man George Popel and became Opal Popel, seriously.
  16. If standing at the north pole and you then walk ten paces in any direction and begining running counter-clockwise in a circle that same ten paces away will you go back in time? Remember that you are continually crossing the internation date line from west to east. I will have to get up there one day and try it. Also I don't think the speed of the travel would come into play unless they were really really fast and approached the spped of light. Then of course there would be a host of other issues.
  17. I agree, the logs are a way of encourage action on the part of a cache hider if its needed. But it should be factual, not personal. I have logged several caches with information about the location or condition of a cache. I have recommended one cache be moved due to the dangerous location. I agree with most above as long as the comments are not personal I think it make the sport stronger.
  18. Ditto, the Garmin GPSMAP 60c is a great unit the standard GPSMAP 60 monochrome is just as good for a few less pennys, and the batteries last a wee bit longer not having to drive the colour screen.
  19. Ditto, Ditto. I have a high arch as well and 15 years ago I bought a pair of Vasque Skywalkers (I don't think there are made anymore) that seemed to be made for my foot. I have put three new soles on them through the years and after saving my wife from the house fire, they are second. (she made me write that, actually I would put on the boots and then drag her out). The point is they have to fit you, regardless of what company stamps their name on the outside. If you get the sale wonk rolling his eyes at you as you try on the fourteenth different pair your getting close. You gotta have good wheels in this sport, make sure you get the best for YOU.
  20. Not sure I would have posted those sox.
  21. I agree that it is difficult to know whom to ask, but the local badge carrier, IMHO, is not the one. With the comment on use of public land... So at what time and to what authority did all of the trails in all of the parks in all of the states become "Official" was there a national trail freeze day I missed? Trails were created by people who wanted to get from here to there, where ever there was - a waterfall, a creek, a mountain, etc. If we hermitically seal off all of the parks so no new trails can be made, no new litter dropped, no single branch snapped off it would be better than our current system? The extreme is putting all the animals in zoo to protect them from themselves. Parks are for people, as well as animals - heck we are animals. I realize this is the extreme but its happening in lots of places where people are unsure, uninformed, unimaginative with regards to public land use. Those three words are very important, each one of them Public – Land – Use. I am getting off the small box now.
  22. Too many anxious trigger happy hunters in the woods around here. I have tried a few but always got that creepy feeling, like i was being watched. If/ when we go we make lots of noise.
  23. Don't take this the wrong way but, most cachers take their own writting sticks. I know we do. You don't worry about providing a sharpener, if you remind cachers to BYOP.
  24. We found a local chain drugstore (CVS) that had colored mini-carabineers 3/$1 and matching aluminum rescue whistles for the same 3/$1. We bought 30 bucks worth. I am also lucky enough to had a dad who’s hobby is making 2 ¼” custom buttons so we made our own button and attached the biner and whistle as our signature swag for caches around here. Really anything that you might enjoy as a trade item is fine. If it’s something you would pass over, then maybe you should think of another item. Discount stores and Dollar stores are always a good starting place.
  25. I am a work at home design consultant in the digital healthcare field, so really anytime I cache I am on company time. Sortof
