    Kenosha, WI

I had a suggestion for you, which is a great cache, but it seams to be disabled at the moment. GCYF13 "*&$#@ Bladwin" is disabled right now because the area flooded several months ago, but it is still there (by now, I'm sure it's just fine). For shear shock value, you can't beat Baldwin. There are a very good assortment of caches in the part of Van Patton Woods where Baldwin resides. There's also a bunch of very good caches long Kenosha's shoreline. As for tough, try the "Nemesis" series.
  2. There are a number of "bonus caches" in my area. It's a multiple logging thing. Find the cahce, log the find. GO to the trouble of finding the bonus, log it again.
  3. That's an option at Terracaching. If Groundspeak were to copy it....well, then we'd be Terracaching. If you like the idea, go there. If you don't like the idea, then stay here.
  4. I see two options: One - make the additional cache a BONUS cache and allow it to be logged as such. Two - make the additional cache a fully seperate cache and list it on another website.
  5. That is actually a walking stick with awalking stick - kool That remins me of one of my favorite walking sticks. On a hike, I had a Walking Stick land on my walking stick. The Walking Stick stayed on my walking stick for a good 30 minutes. Naturally, when I got back to camp, I carved a Walking Stick onto my walking stick in the same place the Walking Stick had landed on my walking stick. That walking stick would forever remind me of the Walking Stick. True story
  6. Groundspeak requires a license agreement for this. I went to all the trouble a year ago to get that license and haven't had anyone ask for the GC.com logo.
  7. There's a new 5/5 geocache placed by Danbike on a wreck in lake Michigan couple of miles off shore from Kenosha
  8. Hey, I've got one that washed into Lake Michigan too. You Michigonians, be on the lookout for a 5 gallon plastic carboy!
  9. I prefer a good old fashioned wooden staff!
  10. I've been making wooden staffs that are also collapsable. I use a connector similar to a pool cue connector so that the staff (or in my personal case - geoshilellagh) will fit snugly in my backpack. A Wooden staff made from Aspen, Birch or Diamond Willow is plenty strong and yet very light.
  11. We had a similar discussion comparing aluminum trekking poles to a sturdy wooden hiking staff. I prefer the wooden staffs myself. But then, I'm biased as I carve them I am not a big fan of the dowels you can get at Scout Camp. I know the dowels they sell at my local camp are made of pine. They warp, split and snap quite easily. I prefer a sturdy Oak, Hickory, or my personal favorite - Diamond Willow!!! Nothing makes you feel secure on the trails than a sturdy wooden staff in your hand by the way. Try beating off a hoodlum (or viciou creature) with a flimsy aluminum rod.
  12. How about This one? Part two Some of us aren't afraid to post a DNF
  13. There are quite a few BSA Geocachers in my neck of the woods (SE Wisconsin) and we've placed a number of caches. OK, some of us have placed A LOT of geocaches. Not that many Girl Scout placed geocaches and that's a shame. I go out of my way to find them when I do run across them. I didn't realize you were so involved in Girl Scouts AuntieNae, perhaps there should be a GS/BS Event brewing in the future? I proposed (along with others) a geocaching merit badge. No action will be taken yet. Although, as I get more and more involved, I already see that many changes would have to be made to my proposal. I will continue to push for a Merit Badge.
  14. I am the proud owner of the INFAMOUS 1942 Philco Problematic GPSr. The 1942 Philco Problematic doesn't use satelite signals like your machines do. It triangulates the signals that bounce off of the watertowers in Racine, Milwaukee and Paddock Lake, Wisconsin. It is...shall we say...less than accurate. My Gpsr is well known locally and even has a few geocaches named after it: Remembering the 1942 Philco The 1942 Philco Problematic
  15. New cache container, new location, new cache, new smileys for the new finders
  16. I read somewhere that someone had found 1000 caches without a GPSr, so I decided to leave my 1942 Philco Problematic GPSr behind and give it a try. I'd download the coords, get to a parking lot nearby and orienteer my way in. It can be done (and frankly it's a fun challenge for about 20 caches), but it's a whole lot easier with a GPSr.
  17. I don't consider geocaching a sport, I consider it a hobby. You are absolutely right about the "Leave No Trace" aspect of Scouting being horribly abused in geocaching.
  18. Yep - Geocachers. Somebody put a nano in the bark.
  19. The surgical gloves i carry for CITO would come in handy on that one. ROTFLMAO!!!!! As a Shrubber, I can say - PLEASE DON'T HIDE A CACHE IN TOPIARY !!!!!!!!!!!! If you knew the time it spent to get these elephants in this shape, you'd understand. I can't imagine any gardener approving your cache in his topiary if he knew of the damage that is possible from seekers.
  20. Anything waterproof is a good container. If it'll keep water in, it'll probably do a fair job at keeping water out. I've used Nalgenes (and their cheap counterparts) in the past and they do fine.
  21. For what it's worth, some sporting goods stores offer discounts for scout related gear. The local Gander Mountain offers 20% off everything for scouting purchases. Dick's Sporting goods matches that (at least around here in TN). You might save a little bit that way. Been there, done that. My local Gander Mountain gives us 10% off on camping gear - but, they sell crappy tents. 31 pounds is an issue. About half would be great. We have backpacking tents - these are for a regular camping trip .
  22. I have a suggestion for you. Contact the Scoutmaster of a Troop you'd be interested in visiting. The Cubbies will eventually have to do thsi for their Arrow of Light award anyway. Orienteering is a Boy Scout requirement. Why not let the experts help you?
  23. NOW we're talking - that's great. Look how far down the sides the rain fly goes. I dn't necessarily need the attached porch, but we're getting close. If only I could find that tent at half the price
  24. After coatign them with 2 cans each of seam sealer and they leaked the very next campout - we tossed them. Their replacements are now getting worn, so it's time to start thinking about new tents.
  25. You'd have to make them a travel bug. Locationless caches aren't allowed. edited becus I caint' spel
