  1. Hi there. I'm fairly new to GC but my kids and I love it! We are hoping to set up our own cache and we would really like to put in a trackable in honor o my grandmother who always wanted to see the world. We were hoping to use something of hers and get a code for it.

Is that possible? Can I just buy the code or do I have to buy the whole trackable?

I'm a little confused about it all.

    Thank you for any help.

The way it works is that you can either buy an already made trackable or you can buy a set of trackable tags with codes on them. You can then attach them to whatever you want.

  2. Hello,

I relatively new to geo caching, although while in the forces, we do a similar excise to teach nav ex over a five day period in the field.

I would would like to tether a water proof cache weighted down, and tethered with cable in a slow deep river.

Any thoughts or ideas would be great help.

    cheers

I have had the same idea and i still might try it but what i have relived is that the power of water can easily take the cache away. if it is not weighted down extremely heavily then when the river floods and the current begins to move faster the cache may float away or the rope would snap. Im still trying to figure out a way to do it as well.

  4. There is not way to search for caches specifically near waterfalls but when making a pocket quary

you could add the attributes 'swimming required' or 'wading required' and some caches near waterfalls will most likely turn up.

Another way to do it is to find waterfalls online and then search specifically if that waterfall has any caches near it.

  5. I have two caches in upstate New York near Amsterdam that have not been found yet. They have been up for over a month and i am afraid that they will never be found :( Anyone up for some FTFs?

  6. What is the coolest cache you found please post with the size and what was cool about it

I have not found many caches so probably the one where they had a picture of a song up with a bunch of music notes and each note was a coordinet. Ex. G=1 half rest=4

  7. Out-of-towners come into your community to do a little geocaching and find themselves in the most disgusting places, with garbage over flowing from the dumpsters, oil/slime on the ground, homeless/drug addicts sleeping behind it, etc. Why do people keep putting caches in these places? Is that what they want people to think about their area?

    Barb

People would hide it back there because its easy to hide, probably wont get stolen, or they cant think of a better spot

  8. I'm not arguing with you. I'm pointing out your poor behavior because its annoying.

And I came to these threads for caches to look for because I live in California, and I'm visiting Nevada soon.

Can you recommend some you have found in california? its such a big state its hard to find good ones. I have not found any there because i live in New York

If you are going to the L.A. area I suggest you go to Griffith Park. Its my favorite area to cache in.

California is huge. What area are you going to?

Pretty much all over. Im going north to lassen then west to redwood then down the cost to SF then im cutting across to Yosemite and then down to Kings canyon. Everywhere except the south and L.A

This is a monster state ... general region of interest would enable us to help with your question.
