  1. So a page or two back, I was struck by the term "Breeders" which was used to refer to heterosexual couples. I've seen it a couple times before, usually used by same sex couples, or at least in conversation about them. It got my attention for a moment, but then it slipped to a back burner to stew. I couldn't really put my finger on why it bugged me at the time, but I figured it out:

First, it sorta feels like a comparison to livestock, which is somewhat degrading, IMHO. For a group who is all the time working against other such terms, it seems incongruous that they'd use such a term. Terms that objectify a person should be avoided, otherwise it's not much better than referring to someone as a bundle of sticks.

Second, and really most importantly, I know half of a heterosexual couple who was moved almost to tears of anger when they were referred to in this way. Turns out, the couple would love to have children of their own, but they are infertile.

So, when starting a gay geocaching group, please make sure it's members are aware that "breeders" can be offensive to some.

Since me and the wife went through this exact thing and had to adopt 'A' and 'J', I totally agree. This to me is a lot more insulting then any term I could use against another human being. Now, I need to find that post and rant. Post #23. Got it. If that isn't against forum rulez, something is amiss.attack.gif

  2. Read the story recently about the two hikers attacked by the bear? She had cubs and defended them. Killing the guy and just shaking his wife around a bit. I ain't going into an area where I am not the top predator. Sharks, crocs or big friggin' bears. Ain't gonna' happen. Snakes, spiders and scorpions can hurt me but not kill me by tearing me apart limb from limb. That's my 'issue'. Being eaten alive and watching it happen.

  3. Usually I spend about 2-20 dollars per cache. I got a great deal on 120mm cans (VERY big) which worked out to about 15$ per can. However, I had one cache that ended up costing me about $300 all told. And despite the fact that it really isn't de rigueur, here's the GC code GC2FHZ7. Didn't really have the money for it, but I wanted to do it so bad.

120mm are 10.95 here. A 120mm tube, now that is even bigger (tank round not mortar).

  4. Well, I used to live in Flint, Michigan, north side. Forresthill to be exact. Highest murder per capita right now I think. We left because we were different then everyone else there and were told in no uncertain tone, our kind were not wanted around there. This is America! My grandparents weren't born here and came from Europe to get away from this crap! This city was a model for future cities of diversity back in the 50's and 60's.

We did the smart thing (in my opinion) and moved. The kid that took over my older brother's paper route was killed for his money 8 days after we left. Why were we different? Skin color.

  5. So now we know at least that someone here has kissed a man and he was Navy. Nothing unusual there.

As others have said, if you are in an area where people hate you for who you are, move. There. Problem solved. Need a group to join? How about we invent a 'I don't give a crap about anyone's orientation or occupation or race, creed, color, faith, Nationality or anything else group? You like to cache? So do I. That's all I care about.

  6. I saw some geocachers yesterday searching a bench.

The first thing that bothered me about them was that they were stretched out under the bench with their legs on the sidewalk, not caring that little old ladies were having to step over them. They were talking loudly about the cache and attracting lots of muggle attention.

I decided to be stealthy myself, and didn't introduce myself. I just sat down on the next bench and pretended to be enjoying the view.

I kept one eye on them, and I did not see them grab the cache, did not see them unroll the log.

Once they got in their car and left I moved over to their bench, grabbed the cache, and unrolled the log to sign it. Nope, they aren't on it. I know this because there are only about 3 other sigs in this log and they are all from cachers I have met.

Oh well, they looked like newbs, perhaps they didn't see the nano that really does just look like a bolt, guess they dnf'd

I came home to log my find, and lo and behold, they logged it online.

I'm a bit annoyed. I'm not the "sign the log nazi" but these guys just really bothered me.

I probably wont rat on them, and just keep calm and cache on, but I felt like ranting today.

You don't want to rat them out but you gave us the info to find them? Don't worry, I'm not as nice as you...
