I live in Birmingham. I'm off to Cornwall tomorrow, and am wanting to save some waypoints to my Garmin 60CSx. When I upload, I get a message on my PC saying the upload was successful - but when I open Waypoints on the GPSr, there's nothing there. Is there a distance limit beyond which waypoints won't be shown? (the GPSr screen says "All Symbols Near Current Location") If they are not shown, are they stored in the GPSr, and will they display themselves once I am within a certain distance of Cornwall?

Hi, I'm off to Fowey in a few weeks time, no doubt will go to The Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lanhydrock etc, but will certainly do some geocaching whilst there. Can anyone recommend especially interesting / rewarding caches in the area (maybe within 20 miles of Fowey)

The very best of luck to Wills & Kate, they'll need it, but this Royalist will be out tomorrow morning on The Pikes Pool Loop near Bromsgrove. One has to get one's priorities right, as one hasn't been invited, not even to the evening do!

I'll answer my own question.......may be of use to others.
Apparently, you need to hold down QUIT + MENU + ZOOM OUT + POWER at the same time - no mean feat in itself. I did, and hey presto, I'm back in the land of the living again. You will lose all your settings, just like getting the unit out of the packaging for the first time....but it worked, for me anyway!

Help! I have a 60CSx approx 1 month old. Today, whilst out geocaching, the unit simply crashed. Switched itself off. If I switch it on again, it will either 1) show the Garmin start up screen for approx 5 seconds, then switch itself off, or 2) show the Garmin start up screen permanently, but not allow me to press any keys to move to any functions. At no time does it proceed to the "acquiring satellites" display. There are fresh batteries in the unit (I have also tried powering up via the USB cable via a PC, it makes no difference).
The exception to either scenario above is that I can, for a few seconds, press any / all buttons on the front of the unit as soon as the Garmin display appears, and get a response as if the unit is working properly but, after no more than 5 seconds, the unit shuts itself down / freezes.
I have no idea what is going on, I'm not confident that the Garmin helpline will be much help, knowing how hopeless these things usually are, can anyone make any suggestions? As it stands I have spent £270 on something that doesn't work!

As a newcomer to the wacky world of geocaching, what hacks me off is not being able to find a cache, getting home, looking on the site and seeing the last 20 entries against the item in question, saying "easy find", quick find" "just popped out in my fag break from work and found this in 10 secs" "found it in the first place I looked" etc etc. Ok, so you found it, that's good. Just say you found it. The use of words such as "easy" imply a) the finder is just so dadgum smart, when everyone else will have struggled
the cache owner really should have put more effort into hiding it more thoroughly. Rant over. Maybe. -

Excuse me if this is a dumb question, but am brand new to all this, having just bought my first Garmin (60GSx).
When I've been out for a walk, as I did today, my Trip Computer will show me how far I've walked, how long it took me / stopping time / ave speeds etc etc. At the end of my walk, I want to be able to tell the Garmin "ok, save that info, when I get home (today's walk was about 30 miles away from home), I want to input the data into a spreadsheet, just so I can keep a record of my walks". But, if I leave the handset switched on, the Trip Computer keeps working, and then will receive data from the trip home in the car, and continue to feed this into the Trip Computer, therefore meaning that I have lost the data from the walk.
The only way I can see round this is to a) write down the data on a piece of paper as soon as I finish my walk, or
switch off the handset when I've finished my walk, and switch it on again immediately I'm in a position to input the data into my PC at home. But, if I switch off the handset, I can't use it to navigate home if I want to (which is admittedly unlikely, but I'd like to have the option of doing so, or else the handset becomes something of a "one trick pony"!....and what if I went on a second walk before I got home, and wanted to keep the two sets of statistics separate?)I hope someone can help??
