Well, I think we've now determined that every cacher in the Czech Republic wants them back!
Did the OP organize Czech cachers so they could all come on here at the same time and support their idea?
And personally distribute to them the translated into English sentence "I agree with this idea"?
This is not an organized effort, as such, although you're correct - the suggested "I agree" translation was there. There's an active discussion going on on the Czech forum with people supporting and opposing the idea. The Czech Geocaching Community is very strong and if everyone discussed here in English, these forums would look a bit different. But there's the language barrier and the fact that they have a nice and working local website to discuss things... so it ends up the community is rarely being heard of in the country of Geocaching HQ. And you cannot expect Groundspeak staff to learn Czech and start monitoring geocaching.cz.
I think this simply wouldn't happen if the feedback site was still up. Anyway, I'm glad to see that there's now active discussion about the webcam caches going on here right now, rather than dozens of "I agree" posts. And just to clarify I'm from Slovakia, but from a great distance, it might look just the same.

I like it. I only found one (it is already archived but the webcam is still active) and I don't think there are any active ones currently in the 60km radius around my HC. For as long as you can take a snapshot using a smartphone, they are fun!

I think they meant they can visit the webcam page and save the image using their smartphone, not that they can take a photo of themselves at GZ with their smartphone. At least that's what I think they meant based on a translation of their sole webcam find. Smartphones make webcam caches a lot easier, because you don't have to coordinate with someone else sitting at home on their computer.

Am I missing something, or have we lost the topo and aearial / satellite maps altogether? I see some "MapQuest Aerial" and "MyTopo" layers in the maps but these do not show anything - are they U.S. only? Both topo (shaded relief / terrain maps) and aerial / satellite maps were extremely useful when caching outdoors...

Hello, it seems there was some change made recently in the way international (accented) characters are being processed within names of the gallery photos. Previously (until at least December 4) the names (file captions) were processed the same way as logs - most accented characters were replaced with non-accented equivalents, except for those with acute accent (i.e. čťžýáé would turn into ctzýáé).
When I uploaded some photos to my logs today, I noticed that the full character set is now preserved, but, when looking at thumbnails, these characters are incorrectly displayed as HTML entity codes. Once the thumbnail is clicked, the name of the photo is displayed properly below the full-size photo. See below for an example - you can see that there are multiple photos named "Výhľady :-)" and you can see how processing changed from December 4 to December 11.
.Additional question: is this a sign that you're actively working on fully supporting unicode characters across the website (i.e. cache listings, logs, etc)?

Does it work with any of the eTrex's?
AFAIK it does not. Only with Oregons.
Also, I just installed the Windows Mobile app to my HTC Touch Diamond. It installs fine, but fails to start. It will lock up with "Auto Detecting Gps..." and will make the phone pretty much unresponsive. With a bit of luck you can still fire up the task manager to kill it. Sad, considering how long it's been in development...

We have a Vista C and use Energizer 2200mAH rechargeables. It takes about 10-12 hours to drop down to one strength-bar, at which point I usually swap them out for a fresh pair. I haven't had it actually run all the way until it shuts itself off due to insufficient battery strength, so I don't know how long that would take.
Well, in my case it only took about 1 hour for the unit to drop from 1 bar to 0 and a little more time for it to power off.
I was wondering if it matters which screen you use -- I have it on the map screen most of the time, and I know it takes some effort for it to keep redrawing the map. Maybe the batteries would last longer if I left it on the compass screen? Just a baseless guess.You may be right, the map drawing and redrawing certainly puts a load on the CPU, but during my test I had it on the satellites screen 95% of the time, it was just laying next to my kitchen window all the time.
I guess I'll try a different set of batteries.

Rechargeable batteries are very different. A friend had an off-brand set of batteries and his GPS Map60CS would only work for a couple of hours, if that. I also had problems with some off-brand batteries in my Vista.I always considered Varta's to be one of the top brands in the battery industry, and never had a single problem with them so I don't know... I guess I'll try different rechargeables, or a different charger to see if it makes any difference...
I haven't used my new Vista C for enough hours continuously to get a low battery warning yet, but it works for ten hours with those batteries.What level (how many bars) will your battery indicator show after 10 hours use?

One more question, does the battery type setting in the unit (NiMH or Alkaline) has any effect on the operation or battery load?

Hi everyone,
I'm quite new to these forums and to GPS receivers, and I'm sure this has already been discussed here, but I need suggestion regarding the batter life on my brand new Garmin Vista C unit.
I got a pair of new Varta PhotoAccus (NiMH, 2300mAh), which have been recharge about 3-4 times. I have tried to test the battery life of the unit by turning it on with batteries fully charged in the morning, and leaving it on throughout the day with backlight off and compass off. It turned off with batteries low after about 12-13 hours of operation.
According to the manual, the battery life should be 20 hours. And this is what I found in this review: Battery life was measured at 29 hours for the Vista-C with the backlight and compass OFF and 18 hours with the compass ON.
I guess they used alkalines, but then I guess that it shouldn't be too much of a difference between a 2300mAh rechargeables and alkalines, should it?
So the question is: What is your battery life when using NiMHs in Vista C? Is 12 hours good? bad? If it's bad, could it be the charger?
I'm using an older Hama charger which can charge AAAs, AAs, Cs and Ds (in pairs) and features conditioner (discharge before charge) as well as trickle charge to keep them charged after the fast charge is complete. The charging current is 800mA.
Any advice is appreciated.

Logging Date in Drafts glitch

I think I'm facing the same issue when uploading field notes / drafts from my Garmin eTrex 30. Looking at the geocache_visits.txt file itself, it has timestamps recorded in GMT (the XML file that geocaching.com doesn't use has them in the local timezone i.e. GMT+2). Now, the old field notes interface did recognize my local timezone correctly somehow, but when I uploaded drafts today, all timestamps are displayed in the eastern timezone (EST?) for some reason, i.e. they are offset by -5 hours from GMT and by -7 hours from the actual timezone. I can imagine this could also lead to date overlap if I logged a find in the wee hours.
Is this a bug or do I somehow need to set my home timezone somewhere in the new interface?
